Whizzer's last year?

And I guess since you are not a wuss(sarcasm), all tame rides must go. Get a clue and realize that other people like less thrilling rides which includes Whizzer.

Chitown, I totally agree with you. Some of my friends act like that. Just because a ride is boring for them, they want it to be taken down. Well realize younger people go to GA too, and it would be nice if there were less-intense coasters like the Whizzer for them to ride. Enough said.

No if they do remove it it needs to go to PGA where its twin used to be. If you guys don't want it we will gladly take it

2001 the year of the California roller coaster
I truly hope they don't take out the Whizzer, even though I haven't ridden it. If I'm not mistaken, I believe it is the last of the Schwarzkopf speed racers in the US. The Zambezi Zinger was a great ride, and I still can't get over the fact that a boomerang now sits where the unique Zinger used to reside. I can't complain too much about CF:LP, but this move still sticks in my craw. Anyway, the pics of the Whizzer entice me--the tree cover in the area would make it a great ride. The circular electric lifts are fun, and I just enjoy the Schwarzkopf designs in general. SFGAm, you have a classic on your hands. Do not disturb it.

According to the "official" count, next year's new coaster lineup will feature 17 Arrow 4-Ds, 21 TA2Ks, 34 B&M floorless's, 17 Intamin Gigas, 12 beemer flyers, and 247 CCIs. And oh yeah, CP will receive one of each of these genres.
Definitely a classic. I remember when Mariott's owned Great America and they didn't used to have seat belts on the ride. It has always been a favorite. Why? Because it does a lot, very well, without calling undue/unnecessary attention to itself. Give up the floorless and giga push. I think SFGAM is the park it is because of the variety of coasters it has. Something for everybody.

Stop the stupid rumors, for Bugs' sakes! Long live
(Whillard's) Whizzer.

I guess they may have to take it out at some point... I read along time ago, that Intamin stated their steel coasters CAN last for 30 years. That gives the Whizzer 5 more. For alot of people that grew up around here, it was our first coaster! Then you graduated to the Demon and Tidal Wave, then the Eagle!

It really is a great ride. I sure hope they get rid of Shockwave and/or Iron Wolf first. They aren't as popular, in my opinion. Even my non-coaster freak friends love the Whizzer, but don't like those other 2.

Ow! My lap bar IS down all the way.
I highly doubt they'll take out Iron Wolf, as it was B&Ms first ever (solo) coaster. As for Shockwave, yes it is rough now, but I still love those mega loopers. It was my first "huge" coaster. I'd only want to see it go if they replaced it with something with a similar amount of height, speed and most of all inversions (how about a 4-D !!!). The ONLY thing that makes that ride bad is the rough ride, otherwise it'd be on par with Raging Bull. Oh, by the way, they put new padding on the restraints on Iron Wolf, give it another chance...it's a lot better. Oh yeah, and to stay on subject - keep the Whizzer !!! It's historical, and it's a great ride for the newbies. *** This post was edited by Joe Carroll on 5/29/2001. ***
They should declair it a national landmark. Then it can't go anywhere. But I suppose it is not as easy as that.

Why does IW being B&M's first coaster mean anything? If it loses popularity and becomes expensive to maintain, it can go just like anything else; much like the orignal Arrow "Corkscrew" got the boot from KBF, and that was a much more historically significant coaster.

As for the Whizzer, I, personally, haven't ridden it since like 1993 or '95 (cant remember might have been before that...) And I really dont have any intentions of riding it soon (unless I take my self appointed God-daughters to GAm). But in anycase there is no reason, other than maintainence, that is should leave. It fills that coaster void for those who have outgrown Spacely's but aren't quite ready for Demon. And in the sad event that is DOES leave, it's replacement should be a themed mine ride NOT a giga-floorless-looping-standup-woodie.

Personaly, I don't care for the whizzer. But I don't see why they should take it down. There's just about allways a line for it, and it's a great coaster to start off on. But after hearing the floorless rumor, it gave me an Idea. Floorless trains on the Whizzer. That would be cool, but, it's not going to happen. I can dream though, can I?
