Six Flags Great America has decided not to removed the 26-year-old Whizzer. Apparently, public outcry was too strong and plans have been haulted. The park has decided to remove the park's Arrow looper, Shockwave, instead.
Read more from Amusement Business.
"Shaun, I talked to the park a few hours ago about this. They confirmed the Whizzer will be saved. But they claim the new location for the ride has not been selected yet. So the Shockwave part is still just rumor. Duanehttp://www.rcdb.com"
So i dont know what is happening.

Also note that the much more elaborate article from Amusement Today mentioned nothing about Shockwave.
Could Amusement Business be pulling a "Florida goes to Gore"-like mistake on the Shockwave call?

It was also mentioned on NBC 7 Chicago that the Whizzer is saved but no info in regards to anything else...
I liked the response on ABC 7 ... Dianne Burns was, "That's a family coaster...it looks pretty big to me..." hahha

It does make you wonder. If they ordered a coaster to fit the terrain around Whizzer you would think it would be a big hassle (both with $ and logistics) to just up and put the ride somewhere. I would think it would take months to survey and prep a new spot along with any physical alterations that would be made to the ride (which I think would have been mostly fabricated now and getting ready to ship). Honestly, I know nothign about this kind of stuff, but that would make sense, no?

Bravo Six Flags for a mastermind marketing campaign! I would bet that all along they wanted to knock down Shockwave and they said it as Whizzer so that when they told the public that Shockwave was the coaster to go that Six Flags would look like the hero! I for one am glad it was Shockwave. I havent ridden the damned thing since early last season when I vowed "never again!" Well, guess what, I hope they really are already tearing it down because I dont want a sentimental last headache on this giant steel torture device.
One thing I wonder is the truth to the whole flyer rumor now? If you really think about it they could be getting just about anything now. The whole flying through the trees theory just doesnt hold up anymore.

Kick the Sky I bet your right, SF is too stubborn to chnage their minds THIS late because of what the public says. et they had it planned all along.
let's just say I almost had a heart attack just now when I went to the Cbuzz main page
WHY!!!!!!!!!!! all they need to do is slow it down a hair and change that turn into the break run and it's a great ride!!!!!!!!!

Steel Phantom's drop was inpired by Shockwave, so this blue and white Arrow mega looper will live on.....gee, even I don't care what happens to it. Unless there is reprofiling of dead man's curve, I don't see ridership increasing no matter where it goes. It just proves to be too aggresive for most.

*Pinch*. Sorry, it's not April 1st. ;)
Just exactly why is there a big fuss over Whizzer? Many apologies if I sound insincere, I live down under.
Could someone please post links to good pics? I couldn't find any decent ones. Ta.

I think you all have been suckered into a great pr trap. They need that space for something much larger than the Whizzers space afforded. And SF is no dummy, as the ShockWave will be reborn in another SF park it it will create a tremendous impact.
ex. Ny State's tallest looping coaster
ex. Ky's tallest coaster
ex. Colo.'s tallest coaster.
