Well, here is something crazier....
I have heard that Arrow referred to one of their elements as a "boomerang." This element, I believe, was developed for Vortex at PKI.
It is a corkscrew to the left, followed by a half loop down, half loop up then corkscrew left again. The idea is, once completed you exit at the same place you entered... like a real aussie boomerang. On Vortex it is the last two inversions on the coaster.
Now that I think about it, Viper at SFDL has this element too. I am not sure which came first, Viper or Vortex. And right now I am too lazy to look it up on RCDB.
Never-the-less, the "boomerang" term differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. On a "boomerang" coaster, most people consider the "boomerang" to be the cobra roll.
But then there's the whole lovely world of bow ties, batwings etc etc etc.

Viper came first, but I'm not sure which Arrow coaster used the element first. I do know that Shockwave at SFGA has one, though.
Viper 1982
Vortex (well, part of it anyway) 1987
Shockwave 1988

The Oreint Express was the first to utailize what Arrow call a Boomerang element now. Its called by many of us a Kamakaze Curve. B&M has a very simular type of element called a batwing. The First Cobra Roll style loop that I know of is on the 1st Vekoma Boomerang. I belive Vekoma also call that element a Boomerang, while B&M calls it a Cobra Roll.
I have 2 pages you should look at for info on the types of loops that exist and which coaster was the first to use them.

Coasterglobe.com is one of my favorite sites becasue of what information it has about these types of elements.

That's not roughness that intensity
1. Orient Express featured the first Arrow boomerang/batwing/kamikaze curve/whatever.
2. On Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, that would be a sea serpent type element. Its hard to tell because that track from a long distance will look the same from the front or the back, in relation to the spine. Its a Sea Serpent type thing, though.
