Where to Sleep when going to the Point

I've always enjoyed staying at The Gull Motel in Huron.

Clarion Inn is really nice. Less then 4 minute drive from Cedar Point. We stayed in June and only paid $53/night. Super clean and super cheap.

By the way, its located right next to the Sandusky Mall on Sandusky Mall Blvd.

I'd rather be a Michigooner than an Ohio River rat. :-) Ohio residents idea of speeding is actually doing the speed limit!

(even though I am Bostonian myself!)

I do have to agree with Grue. Being from NJ I was totally shocked at how slow people in Ohio Drive! They wonder why we have road rage! GRRR. VA is the worse tho. So Ohio people don't fear your not at the bottom.

Gruelurks and Crashmando,

You have to live in Ohio to understand the speed on roads situation. If you haven't noticed, Ohio highways are heavily gaurded by State Highway Patrolmen. Not always, but compared to other states, you have a greater chance of getting a speeding ticket here in the great buckeye state. Be careful, and don't forget to buckle up!

I noticed when I got onto 80 last year alot of cops. Looked like a speed trap. I am talking route 6 and around Cedar Point. The road that all the stores are on with Out Back Steak house and stuff. Speed limit is 45-50 and people are going 35 mph its kind crazy. I buckle up all the time.

jkpark is dead on. Ohioans drive the limit because Ohio's Finest will start ticketing for as little as five miles over, especially with a Great Lakes Blue plate on the back of your car. After all, you're probably not going to come back down for a court appearance over a traffic ticket.

Not that I'm speaking from personal experience or anything. :(

You guys arent whistling dixie about the Ohio troopers. I was doing a good 85 mph through Indiana and as soon as I hit Ohio, it was the speed limit all the way to Sandusky and Aurora. I felt like I was crawling.

GamRCFreak. You mentioned sleeping on a mattress in your truck. Why dont you hit a rest stop on the highway to sleep? Its free. :)

As a person who lives in Michigan and works in Ohio there is a trick. I live 10 miles from the state line mind you and while my Adress is Michigan 75% of my time is spent in Ohio as I work there, shop there, and Jen lives there.

Ohio and Michigan are in a dispute over traffc tickets, if you get a ticket in Ohio and are from Michigan you have to pay it right then and there. I never had this problem until heading to PKI last year and getting hit with an 80 in a 65 on I-75. I have gotten tickets in Ohio before and never had to worry about this.

Anyway the trick is that any points on your license you get in Ohio do not go on your Michigan driver's license.

In Michigan or Indiana its unormal to not go 80. Of course you have the extreme other end of the spectrum in NJ. 90 MPH on the NJ Turnpike with Bumper to Bumper traffic. Now that is crazy, it reminds me of the Talledega 500.

Gotta love NJ!! I never been to Mich before! So I don't know whats its like there. I have drive through MAryland 100s of times and never got a ticket and never had as many slow drivers as I see in VA and OH. Make note that Maryland is the speed trap of america!

THanks

No offense Ohioans! Sincerely! I lived in Lancaster for a while myself! I do realize that Ohio law enforcement personal are a tad bit more zealous about speeding in the nation than other states. (Along with VA too, geez! I get so paranoid when I visit my folks there.)

(Meigs County, no wonder Ohio is so slow!!!!) *-)

Anyways, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in Detroit, drive like a bunghole!

...and when in New Rome...well, never mind, the police department in that notorious speed trap got shut down recently.

Anyway, I should point out that Ohio is NOT a giant speed trap. Yes, Ohio is heavily patrolled for speed, but it isn't a speed trap. Ohio's Highway Patrolmen do their work in marked cruisers out in plain sight. Heck, Ohio is the only state I've been in where I saw a highway patrolman sitting at the *top* of a hill, in the middle of the median, totally unobstructed, with his 'gumball machine' flashing. You'd have to be blind and ignorant to not see him from two miles away in any direction. They seem to make a point of being visible as they patrol the highways. Honestly, I think they would prefer to sit there watching traffic go by at 68 MPH than write tickets.

And just before I got to the aforementioned patrolman's position, he pulled out and nailed some ignorant speeder who had just blown by me at about 90. I was astonished. But that guy deserved a ticket, I guess...!

As it is right now, I am going to stay at the Rodeway Inn. It turns out my bro cant go, so my mom is gonna come with. Since she is over 50, we get a senior discount room. $54 a night.

I don't have much against those of you from Michigan, but I'm sorry; the majority of you people honestly can't drive. Ohio is very strict about it's road laws because we want to keep our roads safe. And having a blue-plater cut Ohio yokals off does not help the already painful aspect of those stupid FREAKIN' BARRELS ON THE STUPID FREAKIN' TURNPIKE. I'm sorry. Anywho, people; just drive safely. Remember: Click it or Ticket.

Well, I used to be able to see TTD from my house, then I moved.
Life's not fair.

Thats right click it or ticket TTD Tom, we r ohioans and we should know that we r heavily patrolled and that we r good drivers. Two years ago my mom was ticketed 4 going 21 in a 20 mph zone when taking my lil sis to school. now they r launching commercials saying click it or ticket or u will be arrested 4 drinking and driving. lol (u drink u drive u lose)

Seriously if you dont like the way we dive in Ohio...it's easy... dont come to Ohio! Sitting behind your computer complaining isnt going to do a darn thing. I happen to like that the majority of Ohioans do obey the speed limit. It makes me feel safer. Nothing irritates me more than an out of state car flying by me. When your in a different state have RESPECT for those who live there and travel on those roads everyday.

LOL, the 4th Of July weekend, I went up north, and when I came back home through Michigan I was going 85-90, I didnt even see a cop for miles, and that was for like 2 1/2- 3 hours!....and the construction is terrible in Michigan!

Yeah, you never see that on the Turnpike ;)

The good ol' days ... where as a local in Sandusky, we used to play Dodgem I and Dodgem II around town with the tourists. It always seemed odd that there was usually something like this attached to the offending vehicle. Not like MI drivers have a bad rep in Vacationland ;)

Seriously ... if you have a problem with the speed limit, write to your local and state representatives. Don't try to justify breaking the law and then complain when you get a ticket.
