When pictures don't do justice

I kind of stole this idea for a topic from a trip report:

What are the best coasters in person compared to the pictures of them? In other words, what coasters' pictures don't do them justice?

Mine are: The Beast, Texas Giant, and Mindbender.

Knoebel's Phoenix. Just looks like a nice, older, medium-sized coaster in pictures. The punch that ride still has, however, was unexpected the first time I rode.
'The Drop' of Big Chief's Cyclops...if you've been there, you know.

First off, it's very hard to take a picture of it as it stands, but no picture of Coaster at PNE in Vancouver could even hint at its evilness.

Rob, you *can* get a good pic of PNE's Coaster, but to do it you have to get up on top of the SCAD tower...;)

The Schmecks, much like Cornball and MOST of the CCI coasters, are very deceptive-looking rides...(well, 'cept for Hershey's neutered Schmeck).

Terrain coasters with lots of trees, like Mindbender, Beast, Raven, are also very hard to get good pictures of....unless you're lucky enough to catch a special event, that is....;)

I had seen tons of pictures and footage of Magnum prior to first riding it in 1998, and none of it could prepare me for how terrific the ride was in person, especially at night. I'd say exactly the same for The Beast.

On the flip-side of that coin is Mean Streak. Pictures do that ride all sorts of justice it doesn't deserve.

My vote goes to X. Even if it does look cool in pix, they absolutely do not do justice to the sheer size of this thing. Turning into the parking lot off MM Parkway and seeing this GIGANTIC piece of twisted steel track and unbelievably HUGE supports right in front of you, absolutely breathtaking!

Pretty much the entire cotton states section of SFOG. Ninja looks very good in both pictures and sight , but is only really a fun ride(for me) in the second seat from the back. GASM looks awful because of the Skycoaster. It ruins the classic beast feel. And Superman doesn't look half as good in pictures as it does in real life.

Also , what's wierd is pictures of Hypercoasters and other tall rides. They look tall in pictures , but not it real life , but they Seem a lot taller on the ride.

Gotta(heavy breath) get myself(breath)funnier for(breath) offseason.(breath)So unfunny(breath) must.....try....harder.

The Legend I guess. I have never ridden it. When I look at pictures I see nothing that would entice me to take a trip to Santa Claus. Ditto for the Raven.

Raven was the first to come to mind for me. From the parking lot it looks nothing special.

Dania Beach Hurricane. "Rampy" and "curvy" come to mind when you see it. Not "unbelievable airtime machine".

The Coney Cyclone is another coaster that looks way tame in person compared to how it actually rides. Nothing can prepare you for the ferocity of the coaster. And lets not forget BD, which is pretty much hidden except for a few hills...

Put me down as a second vote for X. Must be seen in person.

Put me down for a third vote for X. Pulling into the parking lot its the first thing you see and it looks incrediable.

Magnum at CP. I could'nt believe how it towered above the trees when I first saw it in person. Then Millenium Force, I could'nt believe how much taller it was compared to Magnum. Pictures never did them justice.
Call me crazy, but the pictures and videos I'd seen of Top Thrill Dragster couldn't prepare me for how intimidating the thing looks in person.

I'm also going to cast a vote for Skyliner at Lakemont Park. Never underestimate the power of buzz-bars!

Top Thrill Dragster and Millennium Force for me....even after seeing them many many many times.

What can I say? TTD is just breath-taking when pulling into the parking lot at Cedar Point. It is amazing how tall it looks in person, and how intimidating a coaster can look!

Enjoy your ride on Millennium Force and your day at America's #1 Roller Coast!

I'm gonna put in a vote for Boulder Dash. First of all, there's really no way to see the entire coaster in a picture, nor does the picture do it justice. And even an on-ride video doesn't prepare you for the incredible assault of forces and surprises that this ride has to offer. It must be experienced.

I don't know that I'd say X on this one, because even seeing it in person doesn't do it justice.....nor does watching the train run the course....until I actually got ON the coaster and RODE it for myself, I can't say I was "prepared" for it....kinda like Cornball in that respect....:)
