What's with this "Top Text?"

It's all over the web, and can get really annoying when you're trying to read text. Is there any way to get rid of it? Why is it legal?

I thought it was actually found to be illegal recently. In any case, it's installed with something else, apparently without your explicit knowledge. I'd love to sue the bastards who do it. Lynch had it... what was the deal?

Right... Look through Add/Remove Programs. I think Top Text should be in there. I was able to uninstall it without a problem.

Did you recently install iMesh? I first saw Top Text after I installed iMesh, so I think that's how I got it.

I finally got rid of it. Thanks Lynch. I installed iMesh a while ago, but then I got rid of it in favor of LimeWire.

It was actually something else I was thinking about regarding ads, but I don't remember now what it was (searching News.com didn't help). Some firm out there had software that installed without you knowing it and actually replaced every site's banner ads with their own. How wrong is that? They made the case in court that the user could do whatever they wanted to on their computer (i.e., use that software), but the courts said it was like rebroadcasting network TV with the ads replaced by your own. Score one for us independent publishers!

Beer, My Baby, and Coasters. Is this a great country or what? ;)
In certain poop up ads, it asks you if youd like to install gator. Which irritates me.
What's "Top Text"? lol, sorry for my ignorance

Programs like Gator, which are spyware, should be removed promptly....

and I found a perfect program that searches your computer for all spyware...and deletes it..

The worst offender of such software was a download agent that RealNetworks published. Check out the conspiracy here on GRC... it's really a good read.

Wow!  That is a good read... I never knew that that type of information was just being thrown out there.  Thanks.
