Whats the deal with Togo

It was pretty obvious that they played that up on Alvey's video, but Togo's seem to always carry that reputation. I for one have never heard anything positive personally about Manhattan Express.

To my knowledge I can only claim King Kobra @ PKI and Shockwave @ PKD. I enjoyed both, though they were rough. Shockwave was rougher to me though, and that probably is because I rode KK dozens and dozens of times, while only getting one ride on Shockwave.

Just stay away from Fujin Raijin II at Expoland. Viper ain't got nothing on FJII. ;)

He's not kidding. Worst....coaster....ever!

R.I.P. King Kobra. I LOVED that ride, and will miss it dearly. I only have rumor to go off of for any non-stand-up Togo coaster. I've been on both Shockwave and Skyrider, but for some reason they just didn't seem to have the same thrill as KK.

It also holds the honor of deliverinig the most extreme and painful weather related ride I've ever had. A friend and I rode KK front seat on the last train released before a lightning storm shut the ride down, and were thoroughly drenched. The pain of LARGE raindrops hitting your entire body while racing along standing up with nothing in front of you is unforgettable. Even MF in the rain couldn't top it on the pain-o-meter.

I remember (vaguely of course) enjoying my very first ride on Viper...sure it hurt some, but "that element, that WEIRD inversion, is one of the coolest things EVER in track". The twist-n-dive IS...all that. Still. B&M or Premier simply MUST incorporate that into a future ride....PLEASE! ;)

Viper of course wore thin as the ride became rougher....then it went SBNO, and I was mildly disappointed (hoping something better would replace it). Then it came BACK!?? Last ride I had on it, I remembered why it went away in the first place....and now something better IS going in Viper's place...

By the time I rode Manhattan Express, I still loved the twist-n-dive but had some reservations...they were correct. The *banging* didn't stop at the ticket booth...although it certainly STARTED there! ;)

Shockwave at PKD, I liked less and less over time as well...it really WAS the stand-up for Paramount to dismantle...but they chose KC instead! :(

KC and its sibling Skyrider at PCW were clearly the cream of the Togo crop...in terms of their N American coasters... :)

Never ridden anything outside of N America, so I can't speak about ANY of their Asian installations...

edit: CincyDJ...King Kobra, with two K's, was the name of the Anton shuttle at PKD (well, KD at the time). King Cobra (KC) was the Togo standup at PKI. :)

The one "odd" thing about Togo Stand-Up's is that their Dispatch Control is up above the train which, to me, makes more sense as then the Op can see everyone in the train as they could on a regular sit-down train.

Of course there would be no way to duplicate this for a suspended or inverted coaster unless the Op was under the train- nah.

I could never love an Arrow!

I would rather ride Shockwave at PKD then Mantis at CP. But I am not sad that Viper at SFGAdv went the way of the Dodo bird.

Watch the tram car please....
You could say Viper went the way of the Togo bird instead of the dodo bird (lol I made a funny!)

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

I've only been on one Togo, PCW's SkyRider, which I enjoyed immensely. But then again, I only rode it once...and stand-ups are so moody. *** Edited 9/7/2005 2:22:57 PM UTC by Krazy***
I've been on 4 TOGO rides, with mostly bad results.

Ultra Twister: VERY cool ride. Easily the best Togo ride I've been on. The vertical drop and the rolls are wild. It's too short, though. I miss not having this one at SFGAdv anymore.

Viper: OUCH ! This ride really beats you up like you wouldn't imagine. The 2 inversions are sort of cool, but whole train shakes so much that they are much worse than they could be. Terrible ride.

Shockwave (PKD): I didn't find this ride particularly rough, but it was far too short and didn't do anything exciting. It was basically just a drop and a loop.

Manhattan Express: The first drop and the "twist and dive" loop are cool. However, this one is quite rough too. It's the 2nd best Togo I've been on, but doesn't compare to any of the decent coasters from B&M, Intamin or Premier.

I forgot about UltraTwister....and then YOU all had to remind me. Took about two weeks and lots of "cracking" to get my rib to finally STAY in place (you know, where it was BEFORE I rode that "contraption")...

Ranks right up there with RC-48 and Rye's Hurricane among truly painful steel coasters....WAS interesting though... :)

If a company tells you their coasters are "to go" you should listen to them.

^ A travelling Togo? Now that's BEYOND absurd! ;)
I don't know... All I pictured after reading RGB's post was David Lee Roth in the witch doctor makeup saying about jelly donuts and a bottle of anything to drink... TO GO!!!!

I rode UltraTwister one time but don't remember much about it, Viper must have removed that memory from me. I guess I got to get to Astroworld and re-experience it.

Watch the tram car please....
I just meant to go as in outahere.
While not typical, "Roller Coaster" at formerly Togo owned Hanayashiki in Tokyo is quite fun and not rough at all. It was also Togo's first coaster, so perhaps they had beginners luck.

Ahhh, the joys of being old enough to remember when music videos were stupid and fun.

^Ah yes, especially the metal/hard rock videos. It was all about getting drunk, laid, and riding motorcycles. That was before it became too "serious" and everyone thought life sucked and started wearing flannel. Now they just think life sucks. ;-)

Early MTV (yes they REALLY used to play all videos! Really!) videos of the early 80's were more "the weirder the better" as there were really no rules and everything was experimental, original, and raw. Nowadays videos (most of them) are overproduced IMHO.

My parents have "MTV Classic" which shows some really obscure things that I haven't seen since I was a kid.

Not to get off topic here......

A TRAVELLING Togo? Now THAT is scary! That would be SUICIDE! :-o

RGB.... I knew what you *meant*....just had more FUN by intentionally twisting it around a bit....I bend words cause I'm not strong enough to bend track... ;)

We used to have TV-69 in Gainesville, a local video channel that ran from '84 when I first got here, for about 7-8 years I think...Devo's "Are You Experienced" was simply AMAZING!

Talk about OLD....I remember music videos! ;)
