What would be half way between Detroit and NYC?

A friend of mine (flip) was curious as to which Coaster Park was closest to being halfway between New York City and Detroit.

I was thinking perhaps Dorney or Kennywood.

He would appreciate any help you all can give.

Thanks

Kennywood most likely, CP or SDWOA is too close to Detroit and so is Dorney too close to NYC

The Jokes on You!! Ha Ha

Depends on how you are going. If you go across Across Ontario, Darien lake is almost exactly halfway.

It's about 250 miles from bith cities.

All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers.

Any more?

Looks to me like Knoebel's is about as close to half-way as you're going to get.

Without the chaindog, you'd never get up the lifthill...

Darien Lake is certainly not 250 miles from NYC. Try 400 buddy

Like others have said, it depends on the route you take. To me I-75 to I-80 makes the most sense.

I'd say Conneaut Lake Park. Close enough to I-80 that's it not a ridiculous drive "off the beaten path" - much closer than Kennywood would be on that route..

Dorney is way too far towards the NYC side - I'm 5 miles from Dorney and it's under 90 miles to NYC - we can be in the city in under an hour and a half from here.

I just did a quick check on mapquest:

402 miles from Conneaut to NYC
258 miles from Conneaut to Detroit

Of course this depends on if you call Conneaut a "coaster park" or not. That's as close to the middle as you'll get on the I-80 route.

Dorney Park visits in 2002: 17

According to RCDB they are close to the same distance. 271 miles from NYC and 250 from DTW

Looking at randmcnally.com It is 280 from DTW and 370 from NYC.

just come to SFWoA, Conneaut, Kennywood, Cedar Point, and SFDarien Lake....GO TO THEM ALL!....hehe...that's what i'm doing in 2003!

Remember those RCDB distances are "As the Crow Flies". So unless you have a helicopter or jet-pack or something, you'll have to follow the winding east coast roads (I *hate* this about the east coast).

PLease jeremy, you LIVED in the Midwest...East-Coast roads are WAY more direct....I've spent several eternities trying to drive to parks in the Midwest, and all the roads are indirect routes AND under construction...(at LEAST it's not LA). So while RCDB is good only for the private helicopter owners and the "jet-(pack) set", and we DO need more E-W Interstates, East coast driving isn't *that* winding....IMO.

bill, saying the real "long and winding road", other than the Beatles' version, is somewhere in IN, and *eventually* leads to IB...:)

Oh, quit your whining. There isn't a winding road in the state of Indiana. All their roads run either in a NSEW grid, or in a radial pattern from Indianapolis. But they're all straight. :)

Anyway, Conneaut Lake is offset...it's 140 miles closer to Detroit than it is to NYC, so if you're looking for the half-way point, you'd best look 70 miles further East. Now I don't have a map in front of me, but I have a notion that if you go about 70 miles East of Conneaut Lake, you're gonna be pretty darned close to Knoebel's...

Gator: I'll *give* you that there are only two seasons in the MidWest: Winter and Construction, but what parks did you have a hard time getting to? First off, there arent a whole lot of parks there in the first place, and second the ones I know of *real* easy to get to. However, I *DOUBLE DOG DARE* you to show me a direct route from practically "anywhere" to get to Knoebels. Cant, can you? Didnt think so! Now go stick your tongue on a cold lightpost!

BTW: my guess is that Hershey is a more "along the way" park than any other

Well, since you asked, I *DO* use my PHC (Personal HoverCraft) when traveling to KG...I understand not everyone has one..;) IB and MiA were both *PiAs* to get to...and HW as well. Honestly, the convenient park is SFKK....just follow the trail of tobacco spit!

And if I get to choose WHICH cold lightpost, I choose KG's North Pole....

IB and MIA hard to get too?

MIA is right along the main north south road across western Michigan. I guess it's out of the way in that the only reason people go to Michigan is to go to Michigan as it is a pennisula.

As for Indiana Beach its 20 miles from I-65 or ya just take 24. I guess I take things for granted as this is my area but I don't find either hard to get too. The only Hard to get to park I can think of is really Knoebel's and belive it or not SFWOA. And Holiday world is hell to get to unless you are coming from any direction other then the North.

SFGAM is hard to get there in that I have to drive through the 3rd largest Metro Area in the country to get there.

What's so difficult about getting to Hoiday World from the North? Or MiA or IB, for that matter?

IB and MIA are cake to get to. HW is in the middle of no where. You either halve to cut cross lots from Indy or go to Louisville and then cut back to get to HW. HW is the closest park that I have not been to this year because it is so darn inconveinent to get to even from my brothers just east of Indy.

Perhaps I am *spoiled*, seeing as how BGT, IoA, and WA are all within 5 miles of I-75, hmmmm?

But there is a major highway that goes across Southern Indiana from Louisville that makes it very easy to do so. Holiday World is 'far,' but hardly a pain in the azz to get to.

Knoebel's, on the other hand, is far from everything else *and* a pain in the azz to boot. A very worthwhile pain in the azz, but a pain in the azz no less.

Yes, gator, you're close to all your beloved beemers. ;)

Knobel's probably has the most middle of no where location of any inland amusement part in the US. However, the south Jersey and Maryland Eastern Shore beach parks are pretty far off the beaten path unless you are going to the beach.

Holiday World is just a few miles off the Interstate from St. Louis to Louisville which makes it real convenient for me since most of my relatives live in those two cities.
