What we should DEMAND of Geauga Lake...

How about swan boats on the lake?
Or some other boat ride/paddlewheel ride?

SFWoA had those last year. Maybe they'll be free?

licensing Kings Features comic icons would open much better possibilities...Popeye, Family Circus, and Blondie & Dagwood would be better than Snoopy & Charlie Brown in my opinion.

Just to back what the others have said. My kids are 6 and 2 - they know the Peanuts gang. All the holiday specials are family favorites and they watch the "Charlie Brown & Snoopy Show" every evening on Noggin.

You could show them pictures Family Circus and Dagwood & Blondie and they wouldn't have a clue.

My daughter would know who Popeye is, but she doesn't watch the cartoons or even necessarily enjoy them. My son wouldn't care.

Kids today aren't reading comic strips for the most part.

I think one park clearly stands out in kids characters and it's Paramount. Nickelodeon is huge with small children, young kids, tweens and even teens to a degree. Nothing right now tops having those characters readily available at your park.

My kids familiarity (able to name the characters and how excited they'd be to see them) would probably rank:

1. Nickelodeon
2. PBS (Sesame, Teletubbies, Calliou, Jay Jay, etc)
3. Peanuts
4. Disney
5. Looney Tunes

Where does Scooby Doo fall in? If he's not included in one of the above, I'd put him between 3 & 4.

Just my POV.

I think the newest thing Mickey has been in was the House of Mouse Series but that's about the only thing in recent time.........I know it's not a movie but the Prince and the Pauper is the last one I could think of.....Does Fantasia 2000 have the Mickey scene in it like the original? (I suppose you could count that as the newest if it does)

WARNING: You are no longer who you were and tomorrow is now yesterday. In the event of an emergency, do not become alarmed. Move Quickly to the nearest exit.
I've got fantasia 2K, but can't say I've ever watched the whole thing. Let me check.

Yes, Fantasia 2000 includes The Sorcerer's Apprentice starring Mickey Mouse.

If you want to include the latest release of something Mickey, old or new, Mickey and Minnie's Sweetheart Stories was released in January on video. In the future, Walt Disney Treasures - Mickey Mouse in Living Color Part 2 will be released on May 4th, 2004. He has also been in other Disney Treasures releases over the past couple of years. Mickey's Three Musketeers will be released in August and Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas (the sequel to 2000's Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas) will be released in November on video. He still gets around. ;)

If you read the thread, you'd see that "demand" is used somewhat in jest.

I have a feeling that if they got that circle swing back together, the *new* Geuaga Lake would really get on the -good side- of the locals! I think putting it out on the lake is a really neat idea. Coney Island (OH) had such an arrangement. The island it sat on is still there.

Regarding remaining circle swings. Twin Grove campground is supposedly adding rides and/or restoring/acquiring some older classics and they have a circle swing! I believe the tower is still standing as well.

This ride is still in operation ;)

General question, every circle swing I've seen pictures of (and I've looked at a lot) was eventually switched to the rocket tubs. Did any keep their old tubs (airplanes or whatever) past the rocket era?

The should make the lake front like it was back in the day prior to the wave pool and water rides. With the flying scooters back and the rocket ships how they were. Honestly I think the rockets would be a great idea anywhere in the park, but honestly the fact SF is out of Aurora gives me a reason to visit this park again.

A tumble-bug similar to the one at Kennywood would be a great ride in terms of nostalgia.
And there's one not too far from Geauga rusting away. . .
One Final Note....

How do you break it easy on the kids that the animals and Toons are gone? I'm upset enough, and when I told my Godson that Shouka has to move to California, he started to cry, as well as his sister wants to strike (haha)...I honestly don't know If we'll go back, because of the sore feelings we have.

We were loyal patrons for the entire Six Flags Ohio/SFWoA all 4 years, and to hear this so close to opening weekend, it makes me not trust Cedar Fair or Six Flags ever again.

I have yet to tell him that the Looney Tunes and Batman are going too, and I can only imagine how he's going to react.

We may just goto Waldameer and Kennywood from now on, and the Cleveland Zoo, and avoid GL/CP all together, but no more killer whale/dolphins/sharks is going to be difficult, and it was that educational aspect of the park that he enjoyed the most.

I know what you mean midwave, but it's not really either chain's fault. Six Flags took the animals. Cedar Fair bought the park. I'm less enthusiastic about going to SFWOA->GL without animals, but I'll look at the prices, read some of the early trip reports, and decide if I'll go this year after that. If not, I'll probably go next year anyways if they're doing something I'm interested in. I loved Knight Flight, SUE, X-Flight, Villain, Big Dipper, and Serial Thriller, so I do have good reason to return. The park being managed by CF, Disney, Universal, Busch, whatever probably wouldn't get me there any easier than when SF was running it, but we'll see.

Well midwave...

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. I honestly don't get your logic at all. You can sit there and whine about how you have to tell your godson about things that will be different and things that are leaving, and he can cry all he wants. But guess what? He'll get over it, and honestly if you open up your eyes too, you'll get over it.

I don't know what your beef is with Cedar Point / Cedar Fair, but you haven't even given them a chance. I know I may be wasting keystrokes on you, but I'll take a chance on trying to get something across to you.

You are a very very very small minority of people that were satisified with the customer service that Six Flags provided. Yes, SFWoA was supposed to be the flagship park to win over customers from Cedar Point. However, the Cleveland area was too smart enough to let that happen. SFO definately had a huge draw in 2000 and SFWoA 2001 by adding 5 coasters and a wild life side in that period of time, but supplemented by the negative ad campaigns and the customer service that didn't deliver Six Flags lost. Clevelanders knew the quality of service and wasn't going to pay money for the subpar service. Six Flags realized that they failed and they unloaded the park. Would you rather have Six Flags shutdown the park and be done with it?

It sounds like you are bitter towards Cedar Fair for not only defeating SFWoA, but consuming it. You're just finding faults in the park BEFORE it has even opened for the season.

Maybe you should wait until its open and find something REAL that is wrong and then complain. MMmkay?

Personally I'm glad CF bought WOA, it puts a damper on my spring plans, instead of hitting SFGADV and SFA, since our SP's won't work at either park, where going to Hershey on the way to Md for a wedding and Knoebels or KW on the way home. I personally really hadn't planned on going to WOA this season, but now hopefully CF will clean the place up and run it better with a better staff. Which is great because I live 20 min from the park and work right down the road. I'm guessing since CP is fairly close that GL will be CF's main focus along with CP. I just hope they have one sp or a combo pass for GL and CP next season. But I'll be happy if at the very least, they just run and present the park better than SF's did.

Also most kids get over things quickly, one minute they break a toy, so they cry, 5 minutes later they got something else going on. My gf's nieces and nephews are like that, they don't care what there doing as long as there busy, we could take them to the playground down the street and they have just as much fun as they do at CP or WOA. *** Edited 3/13/2004 5:08:58 PM UTC by Snap43***

For what it's worth, we had been long planning a visit to WoA precisely because it had the animal exhibits. It's unlikely we will visit now---with our kids' ages, a three-hour one-way trip is too far to consider for a day trip without some reason better than "a different mix of rides". If we're staying overnight, we'd much rather stay on the peninsula, since it's much more of a "vacation" than a garden variety hotel.

Example: we never go to MiA unless we are also visiting relatives on that side of the state. I suppose when the kids get older, this may change, but for now, the shorter drive to CP outweighs most everything else.

PUT THE ROCKET SHIPS BACK UP!!!

(Last time I was up there, they were still sitting in the parking lot/boneyard across the road from the Villain)

--Dave Althoff, Jr.

If they do that at Geauga Lake, then they would also have to do that at Dorney Park. Like that would happen :( Oh well, happy to have gotten my ride on them before they came down.

Doesn't that shock you though that Disney doesn't do more with it's core characters? I know there was a Goofy movie but it seems like the gang should get together on the big screen. As popular as the mouse is you'd think it would be an overwhelming success unless they really ducked it up.

I think this is due to the fact that Mickey has become the trademark of the company, they are afraid to dirty him up and let him screw up (pretty much the humor in his cartoons) because for some reason they think it will reflect badly on the company.

Its not like the movies are a sure hit either, look at Looney Toons: Back In Action that thing bombed despite being entertaining.

Actually, Looney Tunes movie didn't actually 'bomb', since WB gave away 10,000,000 in free kids passes on all General Mills cereal boxes for 2 months.

I saw the film twice and loved it, and they are hoping people like me buy the DVD or Video, which I did (DVD)...I must admit, this is the rare case where the film is better in fullscreen video, rather than widescreen
