What we should DEMAND of Geauga Lake...

That's as opposed to all those new Mickey Mouse cartoons that come out from Disney Animation, right?

Dave, that's been done. If you look at some of the old images of circle swings, including pictures of Rocket Ship rides that operated at Cedar Point back in that 1920's or whatever, they were erected at ground level, and loaded from the outside. Awfully big perimeter to do that, though. But certainly not an insoluable problem...take a cue from Zierer, and telescope the tower!

--Dave Althoff, Jr.

Well, more evidence that you just can't please everyone. Ask 1,000 people if they think this is good for the park and 990 will say yes. There isn't anything wrong with the other 10 people...they have the right to their own opinion.

BTW, Mickey Mouse is still the most recognizable character in the world but name for me the last movie he was in.

Perhaps some of these characters good be used for a dark ride a la Scooby Doo at PKI or Garfield at Kennywood

licensing Kings Features comic icons would open much better possibilities...Popeye, Family Circus, and Blondie & Dagwood would be better than Snoopy & Charlie Brown in my opinion.

wahoo...was it Fantasia? hmmmm...the point I make is Snoopy has no future....the family will not let anyone continue the comic strip...

The great thing about kids is that they keep making more of them. Next year's kids won't know that the Peanuts strip they read is 20 (or even 25) years old. Neither will the year's after that.

However, the parents dig watching their progeny yell "LOOK! MOM! IT'S SNOOPY!" and feel pleased that they shelled out > $100 for the family to come have this wonderful bonding experience.

We'll feel different when Snoopy comics are dropped by newspapers, which has already begun to happen...only getting them in Sunday's paper in many areas *** Edited 3/12/2004 7:02:18 PM UTC by midwave***

Eh...I dont think we should 'demand' anything. We should be happy in that Cedar Fair bought the park instead of the park sinking into oblivion which it very well could have, if Six Flags could not have sold it or turned it around.

I think you are way off on this one......

I'm highly confident that it's the Cedar Fair owned parks that have problems with attractions sinking into oblivion.....

Our paper doesn't carry it either. Somehow, my daughter (at 4) had the LOOK! MOM! IT'S SNOOPY! reaction on her first visit to CP. I'm not sure how.

Maybe it's because he's the second most recognizable cartoon figure behind Mickey Mouse. Ya think?

LOL...Demand is such a strong word ! But here goes....
I would " demand " that CF would redo the lifeside into a large garden area and put some of the quieter rides there. Such as the rocket ships, ferris wheel, log flume, rapids ride, the sky scaper, ship wreck falls, the carousel (I know its not a quiet ride but that one has some of the best music on a carousel) Maybe even move the water park over there.
Keep the the park a giant circle around the lake, INCORPERATE the lifeside! IMHO Buying seaworld and makeing it 1 park was one the best thing 6 flags did for the park. 6 Flags just did a really really poor job in the execution of it.
Keep the more thrilling rides on the ride side.
They need to spread out the rides some, SFWOA always felt too cramped in places
WIDEN the paths !
A better lighting system around the lake area, and better lights on the rides the are on the lake.
Maybe a cable car or monorail system to take you from 1 side of the lake to the other.
Keep adding flats.SFWOA was starting to get a nice collection going.
And heck since I'm demanding...I want that hyper coaster !
I guess those are just a few "Demands" I have at the moment. LOL

COASTER BEARS WOOF !
I guess nobody else has seen the Great Pumpkin Patch, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, a Charlie Brown Christmas, and all of the other specials that are on tv every year.
The Great Pumpkin story would make for an interesting dark ride!

How 'bout this - what should we EXPECT out of GL??

I say rides running at capacity, trash cans every thirty feet, and pleasant employees.

The Peanuts characters are ingrained as a part of American culture. The current generation of adults has been aware of Peanuts characters thanks to tv specials, the comic strip, a couple of movies, and numerous other appearances. As long as parents continue to pass on the knowledge of these characters, they will be a viable licensing option.

Children's characters can be "resurrected" from the dead with the proper amount of marketing. It seems to me that Scooby Doo is even more popular now than when he was originally on television.

In a recent thing I was watching on TV, Snoopy is the second most recognized character(mickey being the first) world wide. In Japan and a few other countries, Snoopy is the most recognized and popular character period. I think Cedar Fair has a gold mind they aren't using up to potential there...
I liked the Scooby Doo ride at PKI and am actually looking forward to Garfield's Nightmare at Kennywood. A Great Pumpkin darkride at Geauga Lake would be a great compliment to all these rides where enthusiasts can experience a veritable triad of haunted rides from our childhood!

How about swan boats on the lake?
Or some other boat ride/paddlewheel ride?

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

I'm pretty sure it was "The Prince and the Pauper" released in 1990. Mickey played both lead roles in the most convincing split-screen photography I'd seen in a very long time...so convincing you'd think there were two mice on the screen at times. It was the short subject released along with "The Rescuers Down Under."

--Dave Althoff, Jr.

I think that is the last theatrical release but there have been a few straight to video things since then.

Doesn't that shock you though that Disney doesn't do more with it's core characters? I know there was a Goofy movie but it seems like the gang should get together on the big screen. As popular as the mouse is you'd think it would be an overwhelming success unless they really ducked it up.

From talking to mechanics at the park in 2003 they said that the rockets and a few other rides were in such bad condition it would be too hard to ever install. They said they are so rusted and wouldn't work right, and would also need to be restored. I think it would be great if CF put the money in to bring back the nostalgia.
