What started your love for Roller Coasters?

Mine started when I rode the short Dragon coasers at the carnivals, got hooked, and slowly made my way up to the top of things.  What about any of you?

Mine started at Great America as well but was a real gradual process.  I started going to Great America one year after they opened for business in 1977.  My uncle worked there in their theatre department until about 5 years ago so we always go free tickets to enjoy the park.

Anyways, I remember looking in horror at Tidal Wave and saying that I could never ride it because it looked so scary.  I wasnt even riding most of the flat rides because they looked too scary.

I started there one year, I think it was 80, the year before the American Eagle.  Anyways, that year I started really hitting the flats and getting used to the motions.  It sounds kind of silly, but I considered myself in training to ride the coasters!  I remember working up the nerve to ride their Bayern Curve ride there, the Yukon Yahoo or to ride their Himalaya ride, the Industrial Revolution.  I found those two rides the best prep for my first coaster.

The next year American Eagle opened and it was considered at the time the scariest coaster on the block.  The fifteen story drop by many was considered to be "straight down" and very frightening.  I decided that year to just do it and make that my first coaster.  I trembled with fear that first time before boarding.  I didnt regret it.  I loved it.  I rode the Whizzer that day too.  I was hooked.

It took two more years for me to finally do demon and go upside down.  Tidal Wave soon followed as well as the other rides in the park.

Just last year I started learning about the other parks in the country and about coaster enthusiasts.  I did some trips to other parks and now I really hooked and planning vacations to coaster destinations!

Cheers,

my parents used to go to revere beach every saturday for the whole summer in the early 60's. the amusement park was the whole lenth of the street ancluding the cyclone, virginia reel and the wild mouse. also i used to go to paragon park and lincoln park on bargain nights during the early 70's so i always associated amusement parks, rides, carnivals the ultimate good time ever since i can remember. they used to have a kiddie whip that was on the back of a truck that come to the neighborhood about three times a week during the summer. they would play music so knew they were there, like an ice cream truck.
Well the truth is it wasn't coasters...it was waterslides. They had just built the new swim center and I went to it and they had a really cool slide. When I got home I started drawing slides but they looked more like coasters so I drew coaster's instead. Then I wanted to draw the Giant Dipper at the SCBB so I rode it like 10 times to memorize the layout and that's when I started my coaster craze.

After Great America or before trips there I would always be drawing roller coasters and attempting to make them with legos.  Then as I got older I started to plan the trips my family would go on so I could ride the best Roller Coasters.  Last April I belive I found this site after I went to Great America and found out Deja Vu wasn't open yet.  Ever since then I have been coming here everyday to talk about coasters.

Since Cedar Point has always been my home park, coasters were just a part of our summer time fun.
I was about 7 when I started my love for coasters. At 7 years of age I was tall enough to get on ANY RIDE I wanted to. I wanted to be a "Big Boy" so I rode Zippen Pippen at Libertyland, then it was Fire in the Hole. By the time I was 12 I was going to Silver Dollar City every year and I got to ride ThuNderaTion. Then I started working went dormiate till the summer of 2000. Then I went to Disney World and got to ride Aerosmith's Rockin Rollercoaster. Since then I was hooked! I take trips just to ride rollercoasters. I have locations of parks and coasters at the park stuck in my head. I dream of coasters I want to ride and this summer I visited 2 parks, next summer (2002!) I am visiting at least 7 parks.
I  had been going to Canada's Wonderland for a few years and I enjoyed roller coasters but I didn't love them.  Later after I moved to the U.S. I got RCT.  About a month after I got it, I went to Carowinds and rode Top Gun.  Now I love roller coasters.

Being able to watch construction of Montu at Busch Gardens Tampa everyday got me hooked. The day school I went to was about half a mile away and in a straight shot to see them building the ride.

SDMF's everywhere, Unite!
Almost falling out of Screamin' Eagle at SFSTL when I was like 5 years old and way too little to be riding it in the first place.  I was instantly hooked to the fear-factor associated with coasters from that point on.

RCT made me this way.

Indiana Beach Tour

My mom accidentally tossed me out the window when I was 2. But seriously, it was SFGAm that did it. The beautiful American Eagle took me under its "wing" and I was hooked for life.

Model coasters and rides
Raging Bull when I was 9.  Scared to death before the first drop, but loved it when it was over.  I went home and just started looking at coaster stuff. Soon I was looking at pictures and stuff and here I am today.
Last year my band took a trip to Toronto to compete. We sent a day a Canada's Wonderland while we were up there. Then I started to look up stuff on it and found this site and have been coming back ever sense and riding more coasters too. The coaster that really got me going was Rock "n" Roller Coaster.

Where has the magic gone in the name Disney?

Let's see, its 2001 right now, Raging Bull opened in 1999, and you were 9 then? That would make you how old? Hopefully 13 or older!

I was always afraid of coasters until a boyfriend talked me into Blue Streak.  After Gemini was built, I was nervous about riding it at first, but loved it.  After I conquered Magnum, I was hooked.
