While never really 'believing' in a coaster count per se (as if somehow that made your opinions more valid, gave you some sort of imaginary rank, etc.) I casually counted the coasters I've boarded for the heck of it last summer and noted I was somewhere in the 40s.
After a trip to CT -- still only visitng parks or riding coasters because I wanted to -- I nudged up into the 50s.
After my Florida visit last week, I'm up to 67 unique coasters. ( as I will not ride additional Batclones and Boomerangs during this time) There's no good reason I couldn't top 100 this summer.
But I would like #100 to be something other than just another ho-hum ride. What do you think it should be and why?
(My pre-Coasterbuzz Club list is still in my info...add to that all the coasters @ BGT, IOA and USF except Python. Also note that I haven't necessarily boarded every coaster of every park I've visited)
Waiting to hear your opinions.
Da 'Playa
I've already scored 5 MF laps, two of which were front-row. (see my info)
But I was hoping to hear the 'why' part, too. Why wood or why steel or why the best one you've ever been on?

Dayuum, Your HOT!
Well, it depends on what you like, if you like woodies better than steel, than do that, or vis versa. If it is a steel, MF or X, just because they have such a reputation, and I for one have never heard a bad review about either. If it is wood, probably the Cyclone at Coney Island for the same reason.
I'd suggest X.
Fist of all, it is the most unique ride that I've ever been on, so your 100th coaster would be a one of a kind experience that you can't get on others (yet).
If you're into numbers, X is the Roman numeral for 10, so your 100th would be on the square root of 100.
You also could hit Leap-the-Dips, the oldest operating coaster in the world. LTD has its 100th anniversary this year, so making it your 100th coaster would be cool, too.

Excalibur Crew for 2002!
The setting of Holiday World and the coaster is beautfully wooded and something I really appreciate when I see a park conserve as much natural surroundings as possible. The Sleepy Hollow and Headless Horseman theme is also fun to think about while riding if you really get into it. I suggest riding it towards night as well. You'll really get a kick out of this and even The Raven, a very worthy 100th coaster as well.
I hope this helped! It's kind of hard for me to put my emotions about a coaster down on paper, but I think you would find this to really be an outstanding ride. It's not just another walk in the park.

Coasterr: I visited CT the week after Labor Day and was visiting family most of the weekend. I could only squeeze in 2-3 hours somewhere, so I passed on SFNE for Lake Compounce. Not that I regret it...the park was empty. I did a dozen or better Boulder Dash runs, thoroughly enjoyed Wildcat, banged in a half-dozen Zoomerang rides and didn't wanna leave.
I'm seriously thinking it over, despite the daunting 20-hour drive.
Chris: Leap the Dips sounds very, very intriguing for a choice. Hadn't thought of that one at all. Hmmm. How very historical, if not exactly white-knuckle. How far is Altoona from Cleveland?
Valleyfair Fan: No, no, no, no, no! Unless VF had the courage to break ranks with the predictable CF mindset and built something truly mind-blowing (like a 4D or a Racing Setpoint Seizmic) there's no way I'm waiting that long. I'm looking to break 100 by late June.
Besides, I wanna GO somewhere for coaster #100....which would rule out a park I can visit on the way to my in-laws. (Note: you can see PT from their deck)
CPDude: How does ST or Boulder Dash rate in your opinion, compared to Ghostrider?
Looking forward to your responses and still very, very open to as many suggestions as I can get.....

How about the Cyclone at Astroland just for the history behind coaster. What was your first coaster wood or steel and what do you prefer maybe do the opposite of your first. Also you say you have young ones maybe one that you could do as a whole family making it special that way, even if its a kiddie coaster.

Nahhhhh....I guess I'm gonna rule out kiddie coasters altogether. My first and second coasters of this season were.....wait, I'm not gonna say. That's part of CoastaWeek Day 2 and 3 TRs. You'll see soon enough.
A really good family coaster is still perfectly okay. Remember CMidget was at least 44" when last measured. Then again, sometimes CMidget and coasters don't quite agree....but you'll read about that in day 4.

I think it's around 4 hours or so from Cleveland to Altoona. I'm just guessing, as I've never done it myself.
I'd rank Ghostrider just below ST. But I'm an airtime junkie. :)

I like the idea of Leap the Dips as your 100th. Not only is it the oldest operating coaster, but it is also celebrating its' 100th birthday this year! How poignant. I dont believe there is too much else there, so you would have to get near 99 without topping 100, then make a trip to Lakemont Park in Altoona (about 4hrs from Cleveland) to get #100.
If you are really gonna GO somewhere, I would suggest a WestCoast trip. You could go with X for #100 because it is the newest innovative experience, or you could go with Revolution, the world's first looping steel coaster, at SFMM. Another winner is GhostRider at Knotts. This is the most amazing ride, closely rivaled by Millenium Force, but heads above all the rest (sit near the rear). You could also choose Knotts' new Xcelerator (which is an unknown experience at this point).
Or how 'bout Superman:The Escape. It goes 100 mph and you can always hold debates on whether or not it IS your 100th coaster.
