What happened to Coasters2k?

Everytime I go to www.coasters2k.com I get some sort of error. Has the site moved or does it no longer exist?

Hmmm... I get that too.

I think that the webmaster on that site (brandon? brendan?) posts on CB too. Maybe he can answer that question.

I talked with him a couple of times about his host, and I get the strong impression that his host sucks in terms of the bandwidth they say he gets and what he actually gets. A good host is hard to find (exactly the reason why I'm my own host now).

im looking for a good host now for my site, and i cant really find one thats resonable. the best ive found so far is: http://www.hostrocket.com there Economy Plan special is $10/month if you signup for a two year deal, and you get

Storage: 750MB Storage
Bandwidth: 37GB/month
Email Accounts: Unlimited POP3

So i guess thats not all that bad.

C2K has hit it's bandwidth limit for the month. The host does indeed suck, but the site I think should be back up tommorrow.

Besides having PHP Safe_Mode on, ULTRAsurge, the same company I have, is doing ok in my eyes. But there may indeed be a big service difference between our plans or something.

Oh and I decided about a month ago to get HostRocket after my year with ULTRAsurge is up in September. HostFind gives HostRocket the highest rating but then again they do advertise them on the site...

Oh please, do you know who pays for those host lists? The hosts themselves. The good ratings go to the people who pay them the most.

Where do you suggest for a good, non-bias opinion?

All i can say is you get what you pay for. Im at phpwebhosting currently (which is horrible) and I got lucky and I have access to a burstible T-1. Thats where my sites going (to bad it has like 10 visitors a day). I would say test them out because most have a 14-30 day test period. It worth it...
I know next to nothing about webhosting, but people I know have had good results with www.venturesonline.com

I know one of the guys that runs HostRocket. The setup they have is pretty nice. The headquarters is about 15 minutes from my house.

SFNE Freak - this is the plan im going to be going with: http://hostrocket.com/products/shared_econ.htm

If I wasn't locked in for a year with ULTRAsurge (having already paid all the money in advanced) I would get HostRocket in an instant.

When I do get them I'll tell you and you can go kick the guy's ass who runs it when they're down. ;)

No, it's not Unix (such a must for so many of us)... but NewElement is on GearHost (http://www.gearhost.com) and I must say, I love it there.

Bah, UNIX; they can't do ASP.NET yet :P. I prefer the Microsoft .NET Framework to J2EE by a million years.

If you want to find pretty decent opinions of hosts, www.webhostingtalk.com is without your best bet. Stick to the Main Forums - its all opinions, not paid for etc. :)

Usually, the best way to go about it is to post what you want in the Web Hosting Requests forum. See what hosts give you a reply, those that look good, you should then post in Web Hosting Forum, asking about the quality of the particular hosts. Existing/previous clients post their experiences, and you've got a great (generally) unbiased set of opinions to go by.

I've been in the hosting business for about a year now. We're not the absolute cheapest, but not many other "cheap" hosting companies can boast a 180 day uptime record (if it weren't for mySQL going haywire, then it'd be much much more than that ;). The point of this CB isn't to do business, so I'm not going to post a link, telling you to sign up right away - if you're that desperate to give me money, you can email me to get the host's URL.

Wow, very informative site auscoasterman. I will definitely read this while I'm looking for another host in about 6 months.

I use gearhost.com as Adix does, and I love it too. Granted, the prices were a good bit lower for the plans when I signed up, and I'm not sure if I would sign up now with the higher prices than I'm currently paying.
