What features would you want on Holiday Worlds new coaster?

What do I want? Intamin trains. They look so comfortable on Colossos & Baldar. As long as they are like the Megacoaster trains (S:ROSs, EGF, Millie), I'd be happy.

As a whole, Timbers' layout may leave something to be desired, i.e., the second half, but those first five hills are what I'm talking about. Everytime I've been there, the back seat air is from top to bottom on those first five hills.

Marko for a 160 ft tall woodie about 5600-6000 ft of track would be about right. If you want 7600 feet you will need at least 220 feet to have enough energy otherwise you would have way to many weak or forceless hills like that hill over Zeus on Hade (still Hades is #2 on my list, Avalanche is #1).

Who said that there had to be only one lift hill? If you're gonna build a ride longer than the beast then you should take a page from its book and give it multiple lifts. Are there any coasters out there that are 200+ft tall and hold up without becoming a source of income for chiropractors?

I still think it will be a mid-sized coaster. Remember Paula said in one of her Holihints that they are not putting all their eggs in one basket, so to speak. The expansion will include the waterpark and I'm sure other flats and general park improvements. I believe we can all agree that whatever it will be it is going to be great. My guess is going to be Easter as so much can be done with that theme and the hint about eggs and a basket supports it. It's been great fun guessing. 17 days and counting till July 13th.

No, Chuck...I'm not having a bad day. Timbers was fun but it just wasn't all that. Again, I don't blame anyone for loving the ride or even ranking it as their #1. A look at my Top 10 will reveal coasters that offer a mix of air and laterals not just airtime alone. And you'll also find that all my favorite coasters are under 120 feet tall with one recent addition: Hades, and I'm still not sure where that'll fall in my rankings.

Take a look at Mitch's annual poll. With the exception of Shivering Timbers, Balder, and Colossus [Heidi Park, not SFMM] there isn't a single woodie in the Top 30 over 120 feet. And with Balder and Colossus being Intamin Plug-n-Play woodies it makes Timbers the only woodie with a traditional track-type to make the list. I suspect that might change with the addition of Hades as well.

But SOB? Mean Streak? Rattler? Hercules and others? Guess where those land?

My point is this: tall woodies that run WELL, especially after many years of operation, are VERY, VERY rare. What CCI, GCI, and now S&S have proven is that a wooden coaster does not need to be 120+ feet to be good. Perhaps Gravity Group will change that trend, who knows?

Yeah but next year that will change in the polls. Hades is almost certain to be in the top 30 and the drop is 140' and a 160' elevation difference.

It is a FACT that The Voyage is the greatest thing on the planet!!

Yeah, I know...I said that in my post above:

I suspect that might change with the addition of Hades as well.

Still makes a well-running woodie over 120 feet a RARE thing to find.

And even *including* the P-n-Ps, all of the "really tall" woodies on that list are generically Out-n-backs...which, coincidentally (?), is the style of wooden coaster that ISN'T in HW's current line-up.

I'll take one of those! Considering who keeps HW's woodies running SO well, I have no doubt it wouldn't be "spare on air"... ;)

Sometime I'll have to gt back to BD and to ST for an event and find out why they rank so highly, LOL...

It's the quality of the wood, not the quantity, as in size. ;-)

You guys will never learn. :-)

Yeah but either way I think Will will want a ride that is even better quality than what he has. Maybe a twister with lots or crossovers and lots of airtime. It doesn't matter to me whether it an out and back or a twister the most important thing to me is to try to take the record of the most acummulated airtime which I think is about 32-35 seconds on Shivering Timbers. Everything else would be icing on the cake to me.

This may be unlikely, but has anyone considered the possibility of a "family" sized woodie? Something along the size of Cornball Express? For years I've pictured a coaster like this in the Christmas section, with a train that looks like reindeer and Santa's sleigh as the last car. Complete with neat "north pole" loading station, and Christmas lights to illuminate a nighttime flight through the trees. But I digress...

If there is a new coaster, are we sure that it will go in the new section?

Paula hinted about a "BIG" expansion in the hills and trees past the 4th of July section. I'd rather have one larger lifthill than two smaller lifthills if this woodie is planning to be longer than The Beast.

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure she said that?
Even if she did say "big expansion", that doesn't mean it's all dedicated to the not-yet-confirmed coaster.

As for what I'd personally want? Think "Tremors East" (ok, I know Holiday World isn't exactly the east coast, but it's a heck of a lot farther east, and closer to me, than Silverwood is...)

Greg - how about "Tremors meets Hades"? ;)
Yes and add Shivering Timbers to the mix.

Im not sure that bigger woodies can't be built now and be kept running well without to much added cost in maintenence Say 130-160ft range.

As in any good coaster, The layout has a lot to do with how good it is. One reason some of the larger woodies don't ranke near many of the smaller woodies is because the elements are spread out.

Tell me why a SUPERB coaster like Big Dipper at Geuaga ranks so low?

Mitche's poll is very good but there are exceptions.

Chuck

How about this. A clone of the Idora Park Wildcat. That is one of the coasters I'd LOVE to see brought back from the dead.

Weight lost to ride more coasters......90lbs
The wildcat would be great, loved that ride.
Chuck, Geauga's Big Dipper is a really moody ride. Get it on a good day, and it is GREAT. Get it on a bad day, and it is just awful. Then there are days when it just plain sucks. That might account in some part for its low ranking in polls.
