What exactly is The Ultimate?

What is Lightwater's Ultimate coaster like?? The pics I've seen are only of the cars up close. Is it an intense ride? Hills? Airtime? What does it do in all that track?? Thanks!

Tyler

its a very weird ride.

the first half is so boring with no forces at all. but then after the second lift it goes mad, so many laterals, air time and anything else you can imagine. the ride lasts a huge 6 minutes!

it has a wooden structure and steel rails.

hope that helps you

I think that it's basically a mine train that starts off with a few big hills - in some respects it is similar to Excalibur.

Oh, and it was NEVER the worlds longest rollercoaster - even the Guinness Book of Records got this wrong.

What coaster was longer when it was built? Seems to me that it was built just a little bit longer then the Beast to make it the worlds longest coaster.

beast is 7400 feet long.

the ultimate is 7442 feet long.

seems its easy to see which is longer!

and the ultimate isnt a mine train, it just has a train looking train, but there is nothing else to suggest its a mine train. the station looks a normal railway station though, so its anyones idea what the theme to the ride is!

there are more photots here: http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery779.htm

The Ultimate is not a Wooden coaster. The track is made of Steel, which makes it a steel coaster. The Beast still holds it's title. Another way to remember is that even thoough Son Of Beast's loop has steel supports, the track is wooden, which makes it the first woodie with a loop.

What I dislike about seeing about this ride that it has OTS restraints on it. I've seen pictures of it in my coaster book showing it. Why do they put these on non looping rides for?

That is the best ride on the planet.

It's was in my Roller Coaster book (The one with Mantis on the front of it). I seen the picture of it in there and it show it had OTS restraints on it.

It must be a different caster because just look at the pic on rcdb, with the train comin toward you. There ar no otsrs.

ITs in my book I tell you. There is no other coaster with that type of track on cars like it around.

In regards to the record, I have read in numerous sources that at the time the Ultimate was built, it was indeed the longest coaster in the world. Besides, now that it isn't, who cares???:) The Ultimate is a really strange ride. I think laurence hit it best. The second half is much more exciting, but I don't have any reason to go back to LV. I will hit Alton again, though.

Please tell me more about the baby!!!

The Ultimate had OTSRs when it opened but the park changed it to lapbars after complaints i think.

I have the rollercoaster book with Mantis on the cover to. There is a picture of the Ultimate with OTSRs.

Oh, ok sorry.

Sorry, The Ultimate was the worlds longest roller coaster.

According to Coasterforce.com the Ultimate was not the longest coaster.
Heres the link:

http://www.coasterforce.com/ultimate.htm

but they also state that it is 1.48 miles long. When you do the math using that figure it was the longest coaster.

It seems like Coasterforce.com doesn't have the facts straight - not that that is uncommon :)

The Ultimate was the world's longest coaster until Steel Dragon 2000. I rode it in 2000 and it had lapbars.

This ride really annoys me because it used to be the longest coaster people expect it to be good. It is basically very slow and boring, although there are some insane laterals after the 2nd lift hill, but its only a small section of the ride.

The ride is like a runaway train, but only seems to "runaway" for a 30 seconds!

84 coasters in Track Record!! Hypersonic XLC # 100 in July. Waiting for the 305 foot drop tower in 2003. Thank you PKD.

While looking at pictures of The Ultimate over on RCDB, I came across the last picture where there appeared to be white Intamin box track leading into the station. This track isn't part of the Ultimate is it? It certainly doesn't match any other pictures of the Ultimate's track, and Intamin didn't design the Ultimate. Can anyone please explain this to me?
