I have always liked them, but when I started to see commercials for Goliath in January of 2000, I really was hooked. The world's tallest and fastest (full circut) coaster opening in my backyard? That pushed me into the enthusiast category.

"X" marks the spot in 2001!
When I first visited Cedar Point in 1996, I started visiting roller coaster related websites. Then I just wanted to know more about them!
The Red Streaker an out and back woodie at the defunct Willow Mills amusement park. I was just 7 years old. I would go there for a company picnic and ride it over and over since there never was a line. One of our local parks should buy it since its just collecting dust in a warehouse. It would be a good fit for Williams Grove, Dutch Wonderland, or Knoebels.

I've always loved coasters, but when SFoT got Batman:TR, that's what got me interested. I had only ever been on sit-down coasters before, and when I found out there's more than one "type," I went online to look at it. Lo and behold, my first site was UltimateRollerCoaster. That's what got me hooked. Later I found Thrillride and then CoasterBuzz.

I've been an enthusiast ever since my first ride on Dracor at Santa's Village, but the ride that really did it for me was Raptor.
Roller Coaster Tycoon did it for me!
I got hooked when I was about 5 when I saw the Great American Scream Machine at SFGAdv. I loved coasters the minute I saw it.
What a coincidence! Also was about 5 when I watched my dad ride the Looping Star (Schwarzkopf, same as BGT's Scorpion) at the Durban Fun Fair in South Africa. I was hooked straightaway & got to ride it 2 years later.

I made myself intrested in amusment parks, rides, rollercoasters etc but i never really got to ride a big time coaster till i was 11years old when my parents took me after a whole summer of beging to SFGAdv.once i got there i wanted to ride the great american scream machine so bad! but everyone in my family out voted me so we went to batman the ride. it of coruse had the longest wait in the park of over 3hrs. i chikened out and ended up waited with my mother and father. we rode skull mountain and there water effect ride. and then waited for them so more after wacthing the ride i just couldent belive i was there and was over come with a feeling of wanting to ride. i got in line and i got the right act,by my parents saying if we get in line we will get on! so i said ok whater ever 3 1/2hrs later we got to the staion and i started to not wanna go on. my parents said fine dont go on just hold our bags i said ok with a sie of releaf. all the sudden i fell a grip on my back pack and my parents yanked me and sat me down and locked me in. then they check and we where off i cryed all the way up the lift but after the first loop somthing clicked and i knew from then on my life wouldent be the same! i then liked it rode the scream machine the following viset wich was the next season along with the rest of there coasters. and now my parents regret ever forcing me on that ride. but evenb before i was 11 i always liked to go to those types of places and just wacth the rides and people have fun.eve thou i never went i went to little places such as seasame place and local carnivals etc.Oh yea and im not 16 years old. and how i learned more about coasters is the discovery channle then when i got a computer a few years ago i started to find websites starting with thrillride.com and then coasterbuzz.com , picture sites etc.

I remember being little and always loving to look at rides that thrilled you. But I was always facinating with looking at pictures, or actual rides. Then I scared the hell out of myself going on simple rides, but loved it. And then began to love it.
I always went to disneyworld when i was little and I remember riding space mountain when i was five and thinking about how thrilling it was to me. But the one moment when I was definitely hooked and became a total coaster freak when was I went on Kumba in its opening year. I was only 8 years old and it totally blew me away, the ride was so exhilarating. Since then it has always been one of my favorite coasters.
Riding the Vortex at PKI and going to amy first park outside of Cincinnati, Cedar Point in 1996.

To be an enthusiast? "Roller Coaster Fever!" Which, for anyone born since about 1980 (I'm old), was a book that came out sometime around then, all about roller coasters. I remember being captivated by the full-color 'keyhole' shot of Gemini. I read it, I was fascinated, I joined ACE for the first time, and the die was cast.
My girlfriend and I went to Geauga Lake. Up untill this time I have never ridden a coaster so I was a little intimidated. We rode Big Dipper and that was pretty good I thought. A few weeks later we went to Cedar Point and rode Magnum. It was love after that!
Cedar Point...and umm...Roller Coasters.
