What do you think of SOB?

Basically, I just want to know what your thoughts were after your ride(s) on SOB. Did you believe it was rough? Too rough? Do you like the loop and think it helps the ride? How many rides(approx. for us PKI freaks)did you get? Where do you rate it on your woodie list? Were you impressed, disappointed, or did it meet expectations? Any other comments would be perfect too(but I want to hear nothing about 2000 closures). Thanks.

Personally, I found my first ride to be extremely rough and bumpy, had little airtime, and hurt my back and ribs at some points. But my second to hundredsomething times have been incredible and I feel it gets better and better everytime. My three favorite elements are the drop, loop, and drop-jump into to brake run. The ride is much smoother this year as well. I didn't know what to expect so my impression is hard to say. I definitely rate it a top 10, maybe even a top 5. Right up there with The Beast, GhostRider, Shivering Timbers, The Raven, Villain, and The Legend. I still need my Boulder Dash ride though. :)

Everything above was my opinion. If you disagree, please respond in an intelligent fashion. But before you post,I warn you that some people say I'm just too smart to understand. Please take that into consideration.
I've never been on it, but it looks real bumpy.

Ah, Roller Coasters.
An hour wait for a two minute ride.

Rock on.
I thought it was awsome. Ive had approximately 8 runs on it. Rough? What did you expect.

CP in 2002, get to the point
I rode it a few weeks ago and it was awesome. I also rode it last summer and it was a lot smoother now.
I like it. You have to remember that it is about speed and power not air time. If you rate coasters only by the amount of air you won't like it.
I rode it many times last year and had both horribly rough, and not so rough rides. All in all, I felt it was lacking some things I was expecting, air time NOT being one of them. I guess I was expecting it to be a more fast paced. (Read: nothing to do with speed)

How would I rate it? Maybe #15 or #20 out of the 60 some woodies I've ridden. Don't get me wrong, I liked it and had fun, but it's not the tops for me.

(Now if they had Intamin retrack it with their new wood track system, and slapped some Millennium Flyers on there it might just be AMAZING!!

I don't think much of it at all. I didn't even get to ride it until this year. It's not a bad ride, but as my CCI count rises I learn more and more what good wood coasters are supposed to be like.

You got that right about CCI, Jeff! I guess my answer should have been:
I didn't think it was that great for about 15 reasons, all having to do with GCI and CCI!

It seemed to me that as the day went by, it just got worse. I liked it a lot with the extreme g-forces on the turns moy first ride, but those metal bars need to be padded so you can relax instead of trying to hold yourself back from the jerks.

We are the keepers of the sacred words, Ni!, Peng!, and Nuuuuuwwwom!
I loved it, but I can only ride it once in a day. It has a great layout, and isn't designed for airtime. I did like the loop, and it does add to the ride. I have been on it 4 times now and it is a good one, but it doesn't top the Timbers.

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
I've come ro the realization that, despite my former claims, I am NOT an 'airtime whore'. A lot of up and downs dont impress me much if that's all it does.

Specifically regarding Son of Beast, Sonny was the most fun wooden coaster I've ever ridden (save The Legend, no coaster comes near The Legend). I rode twice last year (7.1), and once this year (1.1). I'll admitt that there was more up-and-down jackhammering at the bottom of the 1st drop. But since just two days before I was ravaged by the Legend, there was no noticible side-to-side action. As far ar air, in both spots I rode, there were pops of air, not S:ROS type air, but enough to lift you off the seat. I really like Sonny because it was a little of everything. And its sheer massiveness it visually intimidating. So Sonny sits at a comfortable #2. Far behind The Legend (as are all other coasters) but just ahead of Viper (SFGAm), Raven(gotta love the 5th drop), and Villian.

Can anyone top my 13 times? I love it. It's amazing. It's not The Beast and its not The Raven. It's very unique and the loop is NOT a gimmick.

You can't run and you can't hide...The Beast at PKI

I had looked so forward to this ride, to wind up highly disappointed. It is my least favorite major coaster at PKI.

So whats wrong with? Well, its the trains. They bounce. After the train is halfway down the first drop, they get a bad bouncing that really is intense. The reason is (I think) the trains are too light or the wheels are not designed for such high speed. The tracking of those trains are horrible when it gets over 60 MPH.

The track is smooth, but the trains just can't run correctly.
The ride is very tempermental. When I rode opening night, in the dark, I came off the ride convinvced that is was the best coaster in the world. A few weekes later, the ride just wasn't as good, but it was still top ten.

I have come off the legend and thought it was the best ride in the world. Same goes for raven, beast, son of best, and the legend, like i said. My best friend, who i respect a lot coaster-wise, said he just didn't go for SOB, and that is fine. I think it is a great ride in a great park, and it will only get better with time. As long as i get my rides in on the beast, that is.....

I have been on SoB approx. 40 times. I found a couple of interesting things.
1. I love the drop out of the station and turn into the lift. I love the lift/view. I love the big drop, the first helix, and the drop into the loop. I also think the loop is incredible. After this most coasters are finishing up...Sonny keeps going. The second half of the ride should be fun but is rather boring. Some minor reprofiling here with quick turns and air would be nice.
2. I rank it in my top 5 right now.
3. I always come off feeling it is missing something, probably because of the lackluster ending.
4. Most important: to anyone who thinks your ribs or mid section take a beating...DO NOT STAPLE YOURSELF IN. Leave some room between you and the restraint. Yes if it is right against you then you might as well become a boxer for a living.

I think this coaster will continue to get better...if they enclose one or both of the helix.. look out. My top 5 at this point are Legend, Raven, Beast, SoB, Thunder Run(very under-rated coaster)

Chris
If they enclosed part of the final helix, and part of the track at the bottom of the first major hill in tunnels, then it will be even more like its dad and an even more fun ride. It desperatly needs a at least two tunnels, one at the bottom of the first drop like the Beast and in a helix like the Beast. I`ve riden this ride 34 times and have loved ever trip on it. Also, I rode it nine times in a little over two hours one time last year when PKI paw print pass holders had two hours of ERT on it.

-------------
Paramount`s Kings Island-something big is coming for 2002, the park`s 30th anniversary!
Agreed. The fact that there is no tunnel on the first helix is a travesty. :(

2nd row = smooth as glass (for a woodie)
anywhere else = PAIN
My favorite part of the ride is before you even hit the lift hill. After that it is just a migraine waiting to happen.
I wouldn't mind if they burned it to the ground.
