What do you look for in a Roller Coaster?

On a lot of the shows for Roller Coasters they open up the show by asking people what they look for in a coaster. So what do you look for in a coaster?
One word- AIRTIME. Don't get me wrong, I also love positive and lateral g's and speed of course, but airtime is my favorite aspect of a coaster.

I look to see if I'm having fun. Some people really over-analyze roller coasters, saying that the laterals were too weak or maybe the G's weren't as strong in X place...

Personality, lots of curves and a thong.

Oh wait, what are we talking about again?

it's not the size of the boat, it's the motion of the ocean

Many people say size doesn't matter...trust me, it does!

Anyway, if you want to know what I like in coasters, simply see The Legend. That pretty much sums it up.

FUN
Smoothness, good drops, a good helix adds a lot.
What do I look for? The entrance!!!
Good one Neil!

As long as it runs, has restraints that lock, and has all of its wheels, I'm happy.

Seriously, height, speed, or an unusal layout are always at the top of my list.
A good balance between all the elements. Speed, laterals, airtime, etc., etc., etc. I love coasters that do one thing and do it well like MF (speed) and ST (airtime) but one of my all time favorites is Viper at SFGAm because it has it all.

Damnit, Jeff! You beat me to it. I'm always looking for that package in a coaster.

Getting back to the matter at hand, though. (Hmm... as if curves aren't always the matter at hand.) I get a big kick out of airtime, but it's a mix of things that gets me going. I love long, steep drops with nice positive vertical G's at the bottom. I really get turned off by too much lateral power, since I'm normally the one who gets crushed.

No mention yet of visuals, flying past things so close yout think you're gonna lose something. Visuals also increase the sensation of speed and darkness reduces your vision also increasing the sensation of speed by screwing up your depth perception. I also like room to float and lack of arm restriction in rolling stock.
I look for nothing. I can just tell if it's a good ride when I try it. Looks can be decieving ya know ;)

Its what we enthusiasts like to call "Orchestration of Elements." Oh yeah, and setting and visuals are key. SO many good coasters could be great if they were in a more exciting environment.

SMOOTHNESS and VISUALS!!!
And smoothness is what ruins many coasters. I have no time for coasters for sissies.
