What do coaster enthusiasts do in the winter?

First off, let me second this: Moose! For those who don't get it, don't worry. It truly is a 'Burgh thing.

Since my home park is Kennywood, the offseason starts around almost exactly when school does (for me, anyway). School, obviously, will take up the biggest chunk of my time, especially since Junior year is supposedly the hardest work-wise.

Along with school comes the accompanying social activities. Friday nights will be filled with football games, and later in the season will come basketball. While I don't play any sports myself, I attend a lot of the events just for the good times and supporting friends.

Plus, there's the all-year-round goings on of just hanging out with friends. That's something you gotta do as much as possible, whether that involves being at an amusement park or not.

But the coaster world doesn't just stop over the winter. CoasterBuzz, obviously, will be taking up a lot of my time as well as following all the new, interesting rides in store for 2002. There are some non-riding events in the winter to check out as well.

At least until the fickle Pittsburgh media and fans, and even the team itself, turn on the poor kid, like they did with Aubin, Snow, Tugnutt, Barrasso (although he deserved it), etc. They keep putting these guys up on pedestals expecting them to be the next coming, and then leave them to be the SOLE line of defense, and all of a sudden nobody can figure out why the other teams light up the scoreboard like it's football...

But I digress.

In the off months, I watch hockey (as people may have guessed -- I'm a Devils fan before a Pens fan, though), and catch up on movies, reading, and whatnot. Oh, and last season I got a LOT of use out of my camera, but Kennywood probably isn't doing anything major for next year.

Sad thing is I have to agree with Greg about the Pittsburgh media. But you know? It's a football town. What can ya do. Hopefully, though, people will finally start to support the Pens a little more whole-heartedly as (if?) they start to win more. I'd much sooner spend my $24 on a limited-view seat at the Igloo than watch a "minor league team in a big league stadium" (as a fellow Buzzer so eloquently put it) over at PNC Park.

And now back to your regularly scheduled topic!

Matt Lynch, who wont get into the Devils fan thing... We've been down that road before... *grumble*. :)

RCT, of course, working on my coaster website (hoping for a big update in the next two weeks if I can get moving and get it done...), and since I'm in FL, hopefully visiting a few parks down here. But there is more to life than coasters, it isn't as if we hibernate until opening day! ;)

I believe that was me and for the most part its true. Unless a new Pirate dynasty is unveiled, Pgh will never be a baseball town. Its all hockey and football.

Anyways if I was programming director over at Discovery, I would schedule a nice block showing every coaster program they ever done sometime over the course a few days in mid January.

I watch America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills: In 3-D all winter and weep because the video is so poor.

But seriously, I'll go over to SFWoA on the weekends to check up on constuction and take some pictures on occasion.

Last year I was cheering for my alma mater, Sharpsville High School, during the latter part of the football season, and cheering for my marching band (this one time, at band camp...). Being as I'll be 21 in November, I'm hoping to party... a LOT.. too bad I'm in NW PA and there's nothing open at ALL in November (like theres anything here anyways)

ROTFLMAO, Zero-G. ;)

I get depressed as hell...I think it's a lack of adrenaline. :)

Up until last year, all I have to get a fix was the internet, but I finally bought America's Greatest Roller Coasters 1,2,and The Next Generation. That helped quite a bit. And towards the end of winter, I started designing a working model roller coaster. I'm not very far in the building phase, but hopefully when I'm bored as hell this off season, construction will progess.
I want to build a model roller coaster. I have never tried. I want to build an entire park around a train set. Does anyone ever do that?
