What did you learn on Discovery shows....

The more I watched the more I wanted to go. Rather depressing in a way because i wont get out to the westcoast till im older. Glad to see magnum and MF in the top ten.

I learned that there is absolutely nothing as awful as hearing the sound of your own voice.

I don't think that the crews that produce the different shows consult each other to provide variety. In fact, they probably consult each other to borrow each others' material.

AC?, RB?, MF?, DD?, PR? Who can keep track of it all?

Magnum, Hulk, and Ghostrider seem like they are on every show. Good coasters but there are others that didn't get shown at all. They did a good job on X and Nitro. It was nice to see new coasters in action. Acrophobia was really cool to see also.

It was smart to show just how safe the flying coasters are and it looked very favorable for the coaster industry as a whole. Nice going!! World's largest amusement park was a rerun but awesome to see again(especially the MF test run...BUGS!!).

They should have a new coasters show every year. That would be cool.

HAHA! Don't we get the same comments every year? Last year everyone was sick of Superman:The Escape and Raptor. This year it was Ghostrider, next year it will be something else. How anybody could get sick of watching the brilliance of CCI that is Ghostrider is beyond me. The nighttime POV of that ride was some of the best stuff I've seen on Discovery. The coaster got it's due last night, now they can move on to something else.

True shagy my voice sucks too. I idn't think your voice was bad but, what you say.......

I learned how X works and Acrophobia. Wow those are works of art.

Now let's see how Superman: Ultimate Flight works so we can see that Vekoma and Six Flags (and ultimately Paramount) spent too much money.

...Cedar Point has damn cool looking washers and dryers!

...When are they gonna stop using the Rockhold family on Raptor footage? :)

...Ultimate Guide was great television.

...Beast, Son of Beast, and Thunderbolt top ten? Top ten rides that AREN'T in my top ten maybe...

...Hulk number one?

...Where in the hell were the Intamin Megacoasters?

...Personally, I think it would be nice to see a show featuring the Top 10 Coasters We Haven't Seen Like 1,000,000,000 Times Already. You?

...Look at Mitch Hawker's coaster polls for a real coaster poll, not the popularity (or most visited) contest BS over at:

I'll shutup now. Talk amongst yourselves...

I just don't see Hulk being a top ten coaster. Not one of mine anyway.

Personally I'd want to ride the Hulk and make that determination. It sure looks like a darned great ride. After those POV's, I'm looking forward to Coasterbuzz con and riding the Beast and SOB.

I was kinda perplexed when they was for some reason

talking to a little old lady about ghostrider. She said something like "well it has the old time look to it but it's built

better than the old ones." She has probably never been on ghostrider and how can you say a wooden coaster is built any different than it was 50 years ago. the same rules still aply today. Actually i would hav rather ridden a wooden coaster of yesteryear than many made today although there are plenty of good woodies out there but lets face it. The greatest coasters that ever existed don't exist today.

only my opinion.

"Give me wood or give me death!"

What did I learn? That coasters, hoops, and politics are the only things that can make me stare at the television for 3 hours straight.

Gator - I haven't been on S:UF yet (I got there a week early), but I honestly think that no amount of info/pictures/video can really get you ready for X. The sensations are so unique, that the only way to "get it" is to experience it.

Hallelujah......see you at SRM, right after my beloved Kings have another shot (or two) at The Daddy and His Minions....(Shaq can call Kobe the game's best player, but where would the champs be without their DIESEL engine....)....and as for politics, it seems I stir up a *Hornets* nest every time I even mention the subject, so I won't go there AT ALL....

but I was lucky enough to get one new coaster show on videotape - that collection is becoming rather large at this point....

I learned seeing the rides (like X) on TV are NOTHING like the ride itself.... mmmMMmmMmm

Hulk as number 1.. bull

Magnum, beast, thunderbolt top ten.... bull

MF not number 1....bull

Wheres SROS sfne and hypersonic?and dont say because hypersonic is new, caause they got nitro in and thats new.

It's a popularity poll answered by non-enthusiasts and furthermore doesn't require you adhere to it ways. Get over it.

I enjoyed the shows, and I learned quite a bit actually. I realize that these shows were not necessarily enthusiast "voted," but it was interesting nonetheless. My only question regardless of public or enthusiast taste was.... Why wasn't Raven or Legend in the top 5 wood? Strange....:(

I also learned that I can stay up until 4am PDT to watch the shows a second time.:)

If it was as many "non-enthusiasts" as you seem to be implying, then certainly rides more akin to Disney's Space Mountain would rank, don't you think? Y'know...being in one of the most visited theme parks in the world and all. Unless, Kings Island, Kennywood, and Cedar Point get alot more guests than I had previously thought...

Rob - I definitely agree with you. I'm not sure what Jeff was getting at anyways with that statement (I think it was misspelled??) If "nonenthusiasts" alone were to rank coasters, I'm sure there'd be an all-fire, drag out, bar-room brawl year after year deciding whether Space Mountain or Thunder Mountain was the best coaster....

I really enjoyed the shows last night, though - particularly the helicopter views of the Beast (that really put how expansive it is into perspective), the behind-the-scenes look at X, and especially the real-time footage of deconstruction of Steel Phantom's looping sections. Nice!

PS: B&M ROCKS: You said Magnum, Beast not top ten material???? THAT'S BULL! Hypersonic Top Ten material.....on your list maybe.....

I learned a bit, including popularity contests are boring, and they can get footage from SFGAm! I was very pleased to see clips from there, in the past few years, Big Chief's has had more coverage (the one time they did a segment on Zeus was more than what they did on SFGAm...)

And I learned X rides on the inside rails. I thought it rode on the outside, and the inside controlled rotations.
