What constitutes Promo Lang. in a Sig?

Don't worry, not accusing anybody or anything, just asking for myself here.

So, what all is considered Promotional Language, or better yet, are the following examples considered Promo or not?

"Check out my website for all of my Trip Reports at www...com"

"Come check out my newly updated website, with more pictures and trip reports at www...com"

Or something of that variation. And, not that I do, but if those are acceptable, does it change if one were to offer DVDs (not for sale) on the site to visitors?

I'm thinking of linking to my personal site with just news, pix, TRs, and one section of usless Junk, with possibly more to come in the future, but I'm unsure how to word it. I don't want people coming who are expecting to get this or that from my site, as it is very minimalistic.

Edit: Also, I would see no need in adding it in the 'News' section here, because it isn't really news, and a lot of my stuff is/will not be non-coaster or park related.

What about using the site's slogan with the link, without actual advertising language?

That's promotion too. You can link to it and have the name, that's it.

What if the name of the site is "Visit my awesome website for all sorts of cool free stuff!"?

Then I'm guessing that the link can only be "click here" with a link behind it. (I am assuming if I said "just put the URL" that someone would say "what if its www.VisitMyAwesomeWebsiteForAllSortsOfCoolFreeStuff.com.")

Are we allowed to have descriptions that arn't considered promotional? or is it all considered promotional.

How many times have you guys seriously clicked on someone's sig link because of the wording they used to sell it?

I can honestly say I never have. I browse right by them without even processing the info for the most part. (kind of like ads, I don't even 'see' them anymore - I know you guys know what I mean :) )

The few times I click signature links is either when I'm curious about the person and would like to see their site (in which case a "my site" or URL link is plenty) or when someone I already know and/or trust has a new link in their sig that happens to catch my eye (the 'pulse' link Tekno had before this one, Jeff's xbox link, etc).

If the best you can do to drive traffic to your site is write a sales pitch in a forum signature and post like hell, well...then...ummm...I'm sorry.

I guess the bottom line is that its really not a valid form of promotion and it clutters the forums with lines and lines of unnecessary crap. We all lose.

Which is why I asked. I didn't want to come off looking like I want traffic to my site, actually, at this point, I don't. But I also didn't want to put something on there just not thinking either :).

Oh, and Gonch, you always click on my links. Remember, you were supposed to die in 7 days. Guess that didn't work...darnit.

I don't think there is a problem with Gonchar's signature. Simple and to the point. I'm with Gonch I seen a million links in signatures buy probably only clicked on a handful probably because someone mentioned it. Like the Xbox one if Jeff's sig. I didn't even notice that until it was mentioned then I had to scroll up and click it.

BTW, I saw an Xbox 360. It's right next to my computer! :)

Honestly I don't read many descriptions, only if I was completely bored. I'd rather follow the rules and see what Jeff says. I usually just click the link if it sounds interesting to me. I don't see the ads much either ;) .

Hmm, this makes me wonder if my current sig is unacceptable....
