Warning to anyone planning a trip to Indiana Beach

For anyone planning a trip to Indiana Beach, Cornball Express and Lost Coaster are both down for a while. Cornball needs some track work according to what an employee told me, not sure about Lost Coaster. When I was there Saturday Galaxi and Tig'rr were also not running but that could be due to the fact that it was raining off and on all day. I found all this out after driving 5 hours to get there, specifically to ride Cornball, and I want to keep anyone else from making the same mistake that I did (not that there was any way I could have known, there's no info whatsoever about it on IB's website).

That's too bad. IB looks like such a neat park. I've always been very interested in paying them a visit. I am always extremely afraid that anywhere that I go will be like a few of my long trips to a certain Six Flags park that I used to try to get to every few years. That nameless SF park has made me paranoid about that. Closed rides suck for people who travel great distances, and spend a large part of their expendable income, to experience them.

Thanks for the heads up.

Magic Mountain, right? :)

The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

That's probably a rain issue. When I went earlier this year, Tig'rr and Galaxi were both operating, and LoCoSuMo and Cornball were not. I'd heard that Cornball won't be open for a while, but I'm also unsure about LoCoSuMo.

Well crap, we're going to IB this Sunday after HoliWood Nights, and I was hoping to ride LoCoSuMo since it was also down when I went in 2009. And Cornball is one of my favorites!

I believe that employee was me.

What a shame, my trip to IB in Sept 09 (?...whatever day Gonch went) was one of my favorite amusement park trips ever!! Everything was open, I literally owned Steel Hawg, and it was such a different experience from the amusement park norm! Oh well.

And this type of work wasn't taken care of in the off season because...?

We see way too many parks not taking care of things that they should be in the off season. This is becoming normal, I'm afraid.

Six Flags Great Adventure, for example...

:)

Hell even Six Flags Great America this year with Superman and Raging Bull.

Here in oT land, Judge Roy and Shockwave were both down until daily operation started (or possibly when the NTG opened two weekends ealier).

Everything was open and running very efficiently when I was there on Thursday and Friday. Even when they experienced a park-wide power outage, they got rides up and running again as soon as they could.

Yeah, seems like it's just the CF parks (and IB) struggling to get up to speed this year.

We had originally intended to go to Indiana Beach the day after HoliWood Nights, but debated upon hearing Cornball and LoCoSuMo (a ride I still haven't been on) were down, plus rumors of others as well. We called the park on Friday and confirmed that both coasters in question were still being worked on and wouldn't be open Sunday, and seeing as IB isn't exactly on the way home, we opted for a more leisurely day and simply stopped at Cincinnati's Coney Island and met up with some friends instead. In retrospect, Coney isn't a place I would "plan" to go to, so going there almost on a whim worked out well.

I've read a few SFGAdv trip reports that lead me to say what I said. If anything, the park's operations are inconsistently good or bad. It's good that they are trying though.

Great Adventure even went as far as opening their new, highly anticipated coaster, but only allowed Season Pass holders ride it. That doesn't have anything to do with closed rides and shops, as much as it has to do with forcing people who may only get to go once a year to feel bad that they missed out.

And yes, look at the CF parks right now. Why aren't the Windeekers open yet?

But heck, Knoebles doesn't have Black Diamond open yet, and I'm sure there are more. It's become normal.

Edited to add - Busch Gardens hasn't got Mach Tower open yet either, MaxAir at CP has been closed, Green Lantern at MM isn't near open yet Normal.

Yesterday we were trying to remember... has Maxair *ever* been operating on opening day, aside from its first year??

We rode MaXair on....Thursday. No idea about when it opened, do remember being surprised to see it operating. Love that ride!

It's because the required number of hours of work to do is greater than their available resource hours with the employees that they have. Even with overtime there is still not enough hours to get all of the work done without hiring more workers. I can show you an example work load by month graph if you want.

The shame of it all is this was a destination amusement park, Surely not the caliber of CP or other big ones but fun and eclectic, Camping and tourist were the secondary benefit of it and Lake Shaffer.

It was also built and operated by a family that sole emphases was the park.

Sold to a operator who's sole business is camping that stands to benefit from having a park *No matter if rides run or not*

Last time I was there half the rides operated and the other half sat. Some never opening at all. I have not been back in two years and have no intention too until its operated as a park I'd want to pay to visit.

Come on, A little trackwork? A couple thou and two days? GET REAL.
