I agree that certain seats give a better ride, but I don't see the point where some people are like "I will ONLY ride this ride in THIS SEAT and nowhere else."
The only exception is Wicked Twister. That second from the back seat is so awesome and it scares the crap out of people that don't expect to look straight down at sand in the back twist. If I have someone with me that hasn't ridden it before, I like to make them sit there.

I'm not saying that you're like this at all - but it really bothers me when someone REFUSES to acknowledge the good parts of a ride because it "doesn't have airtime" - a lot of people don't like MF because they refuse to see it for what it is, and want it to be like S:ROS. Sure, MF has air, but it is mostly floater air, which is just as fun in its own style.

While I can ride any coaster in any seat and usually enjoy it. WHAT THE HECKS WRONG WITH GETTING THE BEST RIDE YOU CAN?
Seriously, If you've only ridden Timbers Green Train your getting jipped. You'll be lucky to get any airtime except for the fourth hill.
I've found Legend since it's two train operation often delivers better in one train or the other and unlike it was with the G train, Offeres much better airtime in certain seats. Expecially on the double up. In the G train the whole train used to go airborn, Now it's mostly just front and back cars that GET IT. It has improved in other ways though. The backseat airtime on the first drop now is just SICK :)
And no matter what anyone says, A backseat ride on the RAVEN don't necessaraly make the raven. But it will make you a believer.

I'll buy that one. Certainly if there's one particular seat that tickles your pickle better than the other ones then yeah, go for it. Even if a lot of the time, this may be the placebo effect working.
Probably the closest thing I have to that is the back row, far right seat on Raptor. Sure that first drop is amazing no matter what row you're in, but the way the thing kicks out when you're on the right side, it's still just freakishly fun no matter how many times I've ridden it.
Josh, Millie is a fun ride; I'll even say it's a great ride. I could ride it all day. BUT if airtime is a person's favorite coaster experience (like it is for me), then they might not LOVE it like Supes at SFNE. Just to show I'm not a total airtime whore, I do LOVE the Beast and it's certainly not known for its airtime. :)

All this talk about air time... no one mentions those awful ugly orange (and black and red) 'new' ptc lapbars. "get used to it" I know, they're here to stay. But how much 'airtime' do you really get when your pinned to your seat?
Anyone remember Raven when it had 'buzzbars'?? wow :) How about opening year of Timberwolf??? That one went right to #1.
Some of my top rated coasters are still the Kennywood T-bolt, a lapbar, no dividers, etc. Simple. The Coney Island Cyclone, while not the sleek speed machine of new woodies, does a pretty good job with it's one lap bar. It locks a little lower than the ptc buzzbars, and it's 'let er fly'.
Cyclops and Cornball Express are 2 top 10's for me, more airtime on 2 or 3 drops than anything with ratcheting lap bars.

Oh, I'll agree that SFNE's S:ROS is better than Millie for a lot of reasons, but I not only like air, I like speed. I just like to be able to appreciate something for what it is, I guess.
WHATS WRONG WITH GETTING THE BEST RIDE YOU CAN?
To me, I'm just glad I got to ride the ride. The whole "best ride" thing kind of died for me a couple of years ago. Sure, I still have favorite places to sit, but I'm not going to do like a lot of people do and pout when I don't the 4th car, 2nd seat, left side, purple and pink train on the dueling side of soemthing.
I guess I just don't care that much. My way is like this, take a ride and enjoy it, go have a beer, repeat.

To me, parks are about friends and fun. If it's just me and my bro or just me. I'll tend to go for the best possible ride. If it's with friends and family. Im just there for the fun.
Chuck, who's glad Matt's gotten insane air on the green train of timbers. The two visits I've made the train ran a good five seconds slower.
That's exactly what I'm saying. There's a time for the "best" rides, and a time for just chilling and having a good time.
Speaking of a [semi] good time, PKI opens soon :-) - You going to be there for opening weekend?

I'm not an airtime whore, but it *is* important to me, and there are certain rides that need to deliver it to be complete. In other words, I will only complain about a lack of airtime when there's a point where there should be airtime, and the ride itself doesn't deliver.
For example, MF for me, when its running nicely at about 9 PM on a hot summer's day, is just about perfect. Is there a ton of airtime? Not really, but the airtime is there in all the spots it should be. Then walk over to Mean Streak. While the ride has never been an airtime machine, I can get on Mean Streak and feel where the (little) air was originally, where the air was *supposed* to be, or at least where it certainly could/should have been. That's the difference for me, generally. It's less about the ride's layout, per se, but what the ride is really going for and how well it does it.
So relating this back to the original topic, if Voyage isn't 100% loaded, I still think it will be a good ride, but with this amount of hills/drops, a good number of these are going to have to deliver for me pretty much no matter what.
That being said, there's no doubt in my mind that that's how the ride will perform, so of course I'm ecstatic to get out there this summer. *** Edited 3/28/2006 8:04:45 PM UTC by matt.***
I'll probably see you at HW nights. We have a flyer fest on the fourth of july at strickers Grove.
I guess beings Im moving within a half mile of PKI, I'll have to end my boycott over the flyer removal :(

The greasing proceedure of the trains has every bit as much, if not more to do than greasing the track. I remember a certain ex COASTERGUY saying he was overgreasing Legend with the PTC's and didn't know better.
Many parks grease a car per day of each train and take the seventh day off. Therefore running for one week on a greasing. Greese all the cars on the same day and it will be lucky to not roll back in the morning :)

STChick: Timbers is running really well this year.
Me: I hear marshmellows on a stick run better.
On some woodies 1.2 is best, but there are some that 1.1 is best. A few that come to mind are Timberwolf, Thunderhawk, and Blue Streak (CP).
I don't really get the not picking your seat thing. It seems like people are quick to quip about a coaster not being wood or steel, or being too tall or too short, or not long enough, or whatever, but then you take any seat regardless of the different rides they give? Personally, I don't travel around the country for what I can find at my home park. For me it would be a bit of a waste to put all that effort into finding all the dead seats 800 miles from home. And yes, the seat often makes a HUGE difference.
Dave is right, Some coasters, the front seat is a advantatage. Timbers has great visuals there and Timberwolf you'll be lucky to get air anywhere else.
Chuck, who keeps hearing and seeing all the rave reviews on Boulder Dash but on his visit got a coaster that seemed like it wanted to deliver, It just didn't. Still I liked it. Just probably the biggest anticapointing visit of my life.
