Well...most SFKK customers probably can't make the connection between Lola and Stella either
Not to mention the fact that the employees can't either.
My friend Fran: 'Which one is Stella and which one is Lola?'
Ride op: 'Huh?'
Me: 'Which side is called Stella and which side is called Lola?'
Ride Op: 'I don't know, we call them the pink one and the green one.'

ROFL chris, I heard the *same* conversation....that's funny stuff there. Fantastic news, gator goes 2 for 2 on HW and SFKK....he shoots, he SCORES....
Just for those not *in the know* Lola is in the pink, and Stella is green with envy about it...Jill was embarrassed by my "streetcar named desire" yelling of STEL-LA down the first frop....ah, good times!
The loop will be right behind the Wild Mouse, so the taller of the two spikes will be sort of behind the sky coaster. The loading station will sit where the antique cars set now.
However, they are not getting around any height restrictions. The Sky Coaster is 185' tall and Hellevator also sits up there which is 175'. Also right across the road is the spring shot which when riders get launched probably gets up 190' or so.
So I pretty sure height wouldn't be an issue here since the Sky Coaster is higher than an Impulse.
Also, there are signs now that say which is Lola and which is Stella at the dividing point.

Kick ass! Looks like I'm going to have to make a stop on my way up to West Lafayette, IN everytime I drive up there now...sorry Keith! ;)
Viper roooooooooooocks! Wonder if they'll change the name/theme?

Well, at SFoG's closing, they said they were keeping all the name signs and all the theming stuff....I told them to go to ebay with anything they didn't want/need, and I haven't HEARD of any of Viper's stuff going to ebay, so I'll *guess* that the new name will be......VIPER!
Edit: Shaggy, don't go back too far, or you'll find me posting this ever since Viper closed....;)....but I certainly didn't KNOW anything, and still don't.....

It is great to hear that Viper is being rescued. I only rode it a couple of times and it is really fun. I can't help but think what the ride could be if it was placed in a wooded area. The ride at SFoG was on a flat paved area with no landscaping. Raise this ride 50 feet in the air and get trees involved this could be something.

What have you gotten me into?
There is nothing really going on in the way of construction. Once there is, I'll post some photo's up somewhere or just email them out.
I drove by after school last week and it looked like they were doing a little drilling, but nothing more. I may check things out tomorrow too if I can.

Hopefully the Tidal Wave name will return. Its original, Viper is not that great of a name and way overused.
To be honest, Viper would fit Kentucky Kingdom's look and feel much better than Tidal Wave would. Kentucky is in the center of the nation, far from the sea. Heck, I'll even be surprised if the townsfolk down there even know what a Tidal Wave is or what an ocean is for that matter ;)

This makes THREE reasons to visit SFKK in 2003. A great season pass price, Thunder Run, and now the most talked about shuttle loop in the country! I don't expect it to return with nautical theming, but that's fine with me. SFOG had a fantastic Viper theme, and I think it would work well with the other colors (well, some) found in SFKK. Welcome back old friend! *sniff*

Actually, the most talked about Shuttle Loops anywhere are the Knott's Montezooma's Revenge and SFAW Greezed Lightnin'.

Ummm, and you think that people in the Chicago area are experienced with Tidal Waves? Last time I checked, Lake Michigan didnt produce these. The idea of theming something is to suck you into an environment that you arent used to.

2 superheroes in Gurnee next season? Oh the humanity. :)
kRaXLe, it's the one I hear about the most. I suppose that comes from park hopping in the midwest/east/south/etc where our TW has lived since '78. I should have clarified that better. I even went to CA this year and experienced the two you speak of, but didn't come away from Monte with anything memorable, other than that great back spike. PGA's shuttle was in excellent shape, and it was neat to see the reminants of the TW days. Plus, being a part of that ride's anniversary event helped too, but it still doesn't have the history that Gurnee's does.
I know a lot of people love these better than the Arrow shuttles (myself included, if you can believe that *gasp!*), and don't want to see this ride sit for another 3 year period like it did a decade ago. I just hope SFKK takes GOOD care of my baby, and by that I mean a consistent appearance paintwise! I still think the Viper theming is among the best I have seen, and this ride used it better than any of the other "Vipers". I'd like the swamp recreated, but then again, as mentioned above, that may make the ride too heavily themed for SFKK. :) As long as it isn't renamed to belong in the sisters' family...
Mark W. Baruth, I hope she rode a lot of simulators in her time cause this will be one heck of a ride! LOL And RideMan, looks like our bridge will remain damned, instead of just plain long....how cool that would have been to walk under the loop!

Oh, I'm sure you have a bunch of facts to back that up (yeah right).
I'm just another person who thinks it's great this coaster isn't gone for good.

TOGO!
Well, if the Twister Sisters had a baby sister with a pet snake (comnveniently purchased at Arrow Guy's Pets and Coaster Models....well, we'll work on the name later, lol)....maybe instead of Viper, the coaster could be re-named "Rattle-r", which would be OK with RoadRunner Express....what kid doesn't love the Roadrunner. Of course, I prefer Wile E Coyote....;)
Edit: back seat rides on Monte are awesome, I swear that spike has a steeper grade than PGA's or Viper (never rode TW)....good fun at the end of Con, Eliott (sp?) Fong and I teaching a few employees the hands-up method for the backwards loop....they didn't believe at first, but we may have created a few enthusiasts...:)
