Vertical Velocity spike completed at Marine World

SFMW Online posts several photos of the new front spike of Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Marine World. Construction looks to be complete and it's quite a difference! The retractable floor that is supposed to be added to the station has not yet been started.

On SUE, I always felt the verticle front spike is boring and not that thrilling. The new spike thing looks alot more thrilling.

I'm glad to see Six Flags do something new and creative.

Also, it could be worse. They could have kept the front spike verticle, and just took the top 30 feet off.

I think that is dumb! I mean really, I don't think this is a great idea. They need to rename it to F2- 45' Volicty
I don't think it looks "dumb" or "stupid" I think it is just 'different'

It looks ok, but I don't like what it has done to the entrance plaza. It just looks out of place

OK, here my take -- it does not look "bad", "stupid" or "ugly". However, my first impression was not positive because, to me, one of the most visually impressive elements of a coaster is height, especially height combined with 90 degree drops, and that has been stripped. As it stands, the coaster does not look as intimidating as it once did. So, it's not "bad", but no longer a sight to give you butterflies in your stomach, either.

According to sixflagsnews.com, (a pretty reliable source), the ride was changed because of the height restrictions. On this board, Chris Godsey claimed this was the case as well.

I still think the people in the back few rows are going to experience some strange and potentially uncomfortable forces during this spike. Assuming the entire train will make it onto the straight section at the end of the spike, the train will be going pretty slow as the last rows are exiting the twist and again as the train succumbs to gravity and reverses its direction. I cant imagine at that speed, the centrifugal forces will be able to hold someone against their seat. I think near the end of that twist, the back few rows are going to be hanging in their harnesses.

Something that will make this impulse a little different is that the change of direction on the angled front spike wont happen as quickly. It will take a few extra seconds for the coaster to reverse directions and get back up to speed.

As for how looks, I wouldnt call it ugly but it certainly is bizarre to see an inline twist in that perspective.

"Well, I wouldn't say I've been MISSING it, Bob."

Well, Angular Velocity certainly looks odd now. Hopefully it'll still be a fun ride, but there is just no way that it will still go 70 mph, not if it's missing 30 feet off the top of both sides.

I'm going against the crowd and saying that really looks awesome. My first thought was "Man... cool!"

Plus, it looks like it just might deliver a good ride, and it's lost its "near-clone" status. Also, guests entering the park will get a greater thrill.
