Up close pics of Six Flags New Orleans.

then again ...thats why places like this have BIG insurance policies. hopefully the one that place had was for flooding too.

Tina - SFOG's GASM has survived many floodings. So has Valleyfair's Excalibur. I'd think MZ, with its steel structure, would fare even better.

Ah, ok. I didn't realize it had a steel structure. My bad. :-)

I was talking to someone from my church after the flood and I asked him about the music stores (he works for a major guitar manufacturer) and what was to happen to the gear they shipped to these stores. Apparently, he had talked to an insurance agent before the storm who said you can't buy flood insurance in some of these places because it's too big of a risk.
After seeing those pics I'd have to say total loss, (esp. after what Moosh said about draining). But I also totally believe Megazeph can be saved. Maybe even some of the steel coaster structures, (motors, computers, ect. would have to be replaced), but anything that can be salvaged will probably be moved to other SF parks.

The whole scene is just horribly sad, I'm hoping our youth ministries plans to go there this summer for our Missionfuge pan out. I'd love to offer whatever help/hope I can to those people down there.

With the increase in steel prices, I wouldn't be surprised if many new SF rides the next few years have some SFNO ride's souls in them, if you can catch my drift....
Unbelievable! To the Management, close the park, and sell the rides to other parks. Send Boomerang and Batman to MarineLand, because this park can use new roller coasters and has lots of avaliable space to place these 2 roller coasters in. SFNO is not in usable condition anymore.
I have no adequate words in response to those pictures... nor have I any for similar pictures taken throghout the city in the recent weeks (for a true glimpse of what it's like there, the recent Newsweek is absolutely chilling in its vivid depiction of the devastation).

That being said, I can't believe that anyone, enthusiast or not, could possibly turn the tragedy being endured by this city and this park into a childish beg for coasters at a park near them. Speculation on SFNO's future, fine, but honestly, have some compassion and grow up.

I must say, I had seen some overhead shots, but even those did not do justice to this... I would be very surprised if this park ever reopens...

As for the rides... Who knows? Structurally, they look salvageable, but I'm sure most of the electronics / computers are shot and will need to be replaced.

I want to add, the one shot of the batman the ride over the water... I don't in any way mean to belittle what's going on down there, but that would be a cool ride if they could somehow leave the water under it.

That park is more than likely not opening, seeing the damage, and the financial burdens that Six Flags has been dealing with.

Anyway, if there's one thing that Six Flags is familiar with, it's flooding. Just look at the recent floods at SFOG (twice in two years?) and SFOT (04'?). Other parks have experienced bad flooding too such as Hersheypark (last year from Ivan, I believe), and Knoebels has survived many a flood.

But as someone said... the big difference is in the other floods mentioned the water receeded in a matter of days. With SFNO it isn't gonig anywhere for a while.

With a major city in shambles, I really don't think an amusement park is high on the list of things to rebuild.

Odd... Last summer we were 3 hours away from SFNO (in Gulf Shores Alabama) and had debated on going there, but decided against it... will hit it on some other trip... The truely ironic thing is on that trip I joked to my wife "IF we go to SFNO, we are not THAT far from Texas and Six Flags Astro World..."

Guess there won't be any "Next Year" for these two.

"Welcome to SFNO! The Venice of amusement parks!"

Really sad thing. I hope this park recovers and the coasters are intact. I hate seeing great machines get dismantled.

I can't belive how many people are so greedy. The park is still underwater and yet people are already talking about who and what park should get the rides. You never know it COULD pull through. Same with Astroworld people are already fighting over what goes where, and its sad. Have some respect. 2 major cities are possibly loosing a major amusement parks and even if you didn't like SFAW or SFNO im sure there is people who would. Look at all the other amusement parks that have opended there gates to hurricane katrina victims..they need somewhere to go to take their minds off of what happened. Maybe the people of NO will need a place to have fun and i could see the park reopening in the future, it might take some time but i think NewOrleans will be strong and pull through this and build itself back up better then ever. Jeeze people have some faith and stop worrying about if one of the 2 closed parks coaster's will be coming to your homepark. Im sure the No One on coasterbuzz knows 100% what will happen to SFNO. The hole city is in a major crisis and a major recovery. Grow up and show some respect for those people. Im sure you wouldnt like it if your home park got damaged or closed down somehow and everyone was arguing over what park should get the rides. Its pathetic.
I can promise you as of right now the plan is to bring the park back. That's all I can say!

I was totally surprised myself!

But it is SF's were talking about and that can change at any time, and getting in there to evaulate the situation may change a lot as well. *** Edited 9/20/2005 2:45:31 AM UTC by Markieb*** *** Edited 9/20/2005 6:36:57 PM UTC by Markieb***
