Up close pics of Six Flags New Orleans.

Picture 34 looks kind of cool.

I think 45 is the saddest.

How sad. I hope they recover some day but I don't see the park opening in the next couple of years.
I don't understand how anyone could possibly think that this park will ever open again, especially after looking at these pictures...it just won't be possible or feasable

In all likelihood, the South region has lost two theme parks and two large wooden rollercoasters for 2006.

Two parks? Yes. Two woodies? Nope. Megazeph could easily be salvaged and sent to another park in the chain.

SFNO is not in the "downtown area" in which the marjority of pumps are located. My guess is that is an area that will have to drain naturally or will be 2nd/3rd tier for mechanical draining. not a lot of homes in this area. few industrial business. Park looks like toast to me.
Heartbreaking!!!

God bless the people of New Orleans!

True, but what Pancake said was, the SOUTH region has probably lost two woodies. In the scenario you described of SF moving it, I doubt it would go to SFOT or SFOG, since they already have 2 woodies, so unless MZ went to SFFT, chances are it would end up outside of the south region.

But SF is probably too cheap to move a woodie, steel structure or not.

And another thing, as Cameraman has said, repeatedly, you can not move what you do not own.

Six Flags does not OWN the Mega Zeph.

Just because the *track* is above water doesn't mean everything else isn't.

Lift motor, control system, etc... and what about how sound the footers are now?

Where B&M inverted coasters are concerned, there's surprisingly little mechanical equipment at or below station level. Save for the cams that raise and lower the floor in the station and perhaps its controls, there is nothing under the station.

The lift motor is atop the track at the base of the lift.

Okay, those pics left me speechless.

You need to remember that most of the time the main computer control rooms for these coasters are directly below the station, that will be the part that needs replaced. Fortunatly, it appears that the flooding came just to or just slightly over the main platform/station of the rides leaving the majority of the attraction above water level. I'd guess this means that most of the rides will be able to be saved, either in their current location or moved to other Six Flags Parks. Unfortunatly, the Sally Dark Ride at the park (I'm not sure of the name) is probably completly lost as the entire attraction is built on ground level.

I'd like to see the park reopen, but I'm doubtful that it will. For starters, they'll need to find out how much damage there was and how much it would cost to fix it all. If the price is right, they'll then need to decide if it is even worth keeping. SFNO was never that big of a draw for guests, and it will probably be years before the tourism industry in New Orleans bounces back, so if the park reopened, it could be a decade or more before it ever completly recovered. Then there is the problem of the city having so much ownership in the park. It'll be interesting to see what happens to this park. But in the mean time our thoughts and prayers will be for the people of New Orleans.

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

Oh, right..I see that now. Duh! And my only reason for picking the SFNO ride is that with the steel support structure its easier to relocate, not that all-wood coasters haven't been relocated previously of course.

Hope both are saved!

Since Six Flags actually owns very few of the attractions at SFNO, they'd have to strike some sort of deal with the city to relocate them - in essense, they'd have to buy them. Would they want to buy these damaged rides? Would the cash strapped city be willing to sell them dirt cheap?

Doubtful.

Still, I'm of the belief that although SFNO might never reopen, I'm confident that these rides will indeed be sold, or relocated. Think about it. Who wouldn't buy a ride like MegaZeph, if you could get it dirt cheap. The plans exist. The structure exists. You just replace what's needed, and move on. Stranger relocations have occurred.

I'm wondering, and I don't know if this is even possible, if the city would think about melting down the metal, and using it to rebuild some of the city...

Rob, how could the Mega Zeph survive in THAT polluted water, let alone water at all?

Tina - SFOG's GASM has survived many floodings. So has Valleyfair's Excalibur. I'd think MZ, with its steel structure, would fare even better.
Considering everything else that has been lost to Katrina, marking of SFNO seems like no big task. If I hadn't been to Six Flags New Orleans, i'd be mourning... I was, however, a visitor for the 2004 season, and absolutely hated the place. I'm sad to think, or hear of any amusement parks to close. But if I had to choose one to close Six Flags New Orleans would have been it. Even there Batman sucked, and I didn't think any Batman could suck!

With a death toll in the thousands, loosing one really sh^$#*y Six Flags parks really isn't important at all.......

Yeah, apparantly SpongeBob isn't the spongiest.

It's sad to see a park in this state, I don't think it'll reopen.

But I do think that Batman on Photo 40 looks really, really amazing. And I feel bad about that.

Those pics are exactly what I had imagined and feared. Too bad really because I had a good time at SFNO back in '04 (almost exactly a year to the date of this storm). I never would've imagined a year later all of this! Contrary to coasterkid16, I thought their Batman was one of the best I'd ever ridden. I loved the first drop swooping over the water. It was also the only B:TR where I felt the intense positive g-forces tingling all the way down in my feet. Looking at the pics of their DCA area it makes me wonder where Aquaman is when you need him.

I think what saddens me the most about the hurricane damage is all of the missing children. There are reportedly over 2,000 of them.

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!
