Universal wants to build theme park in India

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Universal Studios wants to get global and build a theme park in India. The park will cost at least $500 million.

Read about it from Business Standard.

That is a lot of money!!
Why would they build a theme park in India? That is a VERY BAD IDEA and the country is not a good place to be in (for me it is). Why do they want to build a park there? They build one in Japan. They are globel.

India is the second most populous country in the world. While India may not have the highest per capita income, their economy is growing and will eventually become a global power. Obviously Universal has run the numbers and they see it as a excellent business opportunity. Remember ROI? Universal, investors, and the creditors who would loan money for this project are not in business to throw around a half billion dollars on a whim. Welcome to the global economy.

THE BEASTmaster, perhaps you should consult a map before you make such a statement. The middle east is a region of Asia.

India and Pakistan do share a border, and it is true that they don't get along very well. It is irrelevant anyway, all kinds of investment is flowing into India and will continue to do so. This is largely due to the fact that there is a sizable segment of the population that is well educated, and they work cheap compared to other industrialized countries. The people of India need entertainment just like everyone else and their money is just as good as yours or mine.

They are expanding more because of the quick turnaround at universal Japan. They expected 8 million by year end they already have had 3 million since april 1st, thats aton of people in a 3 month period at $44 a piece.

India has, what, one amusement park. Universal is doing this because there is no competition, and India will soon have the largest population of any country in the world, as it's expected to pass China within, I don't know, maybe 25 years. There's no "war" with Pakistan. Just a great dislike for eachother's country. They're both disbuting over these two small regions that are scarcely populated and wouldn't do much for either of them. Sure they both have nuclear capability, but no matter how ignorant "The Simpsons" may make Indians look, the two countries aren't stupid enough to enter a war that could cause the destruction of both countries. It's a good idea for Universal, and will probably be a successful investment. I don't really know how 500 million compares to other parks, so let me ask this: How much does an average park of this size cost to build?

There is no war with Pakistan? Do you watch CNN? The both developed Nukes, there are constant skirmishes on the border. People are dying over there as we speak.
Beastmaster, exactly where do you get your info and where do you buy your atlas? Pakistan is bordering India. Some people............well, I just don't know.
Why do you guys have to come down on someone that made a little error. Yes I should have looked at a map, but I thought Pakistan wasn't near India. SHEESH! Sorry for my errors. I guess I'll get the atlas everytime there is coaster news that is on the other side of the globe so I won't make this little mistake.

That doesn't seem like very much money considering DCA cost 1.4 billion dollars, and the park is tiny.
Really guys, I have a feeling that Universal knows much more about this than any of us. Really, how many people here are experts on India's social and economic status?

It sounds stupid but is a good idea because India is one of th main ares were all the other countries from thee north come to and all the islanders from the south would come to it is the easiest place to get to for everyone in ASIA

Cedar Point, doesn't get any better then that:)
India is ONE OF THE WORSE PLACE TO BUILD A THEME PARK, I Think that if they wanna to get global, BUILD A THEME PARK IN LATIN AMERICA,because in Asia already have one in JAPAN.
Japan is only a sinlge location in Asia. That continent needs more world-class attractions outside of Japan. Those guys from Universal are very smart. They must know more than any one of us about the Indian economy to make such project a possibility.
They also have a park in China and I do believe that's in Asia. As for more park's in the region the bulk of the worlds population is in that area it can support a few parks.

Building a theme park in India is genius. As far as I know, there aren't any major ones already there, and the dense population can easily support a park like Univerasl Studios. As for there already being a enough parks in Asia, that's ridiculous. Asia is the largest continent on Earth; two or three theme parks is obviously not enough. There are four times as many people in India as there are in the US, and the US has over a hundred theme parks. The average income is probably not nearly as high as the US, but the upper class should still be able to afford a trip to a theme park, and there are a lot of people in that upper class.
Theres no room. 5 billion people in one country is to many.
First off Iran and Iraq arent at war with Israel, they never have. Pakistan is not in the middle east by the way. Just because there are skirmishes between Pakistan and India, it doesnt mean they are at war. Israel isn't at war with Palestein and look whats happeninf there. War is a big word, they get names and it means if you see someone on the opposing side you shot them.
