TTD is nothing

Dave, I disagree. If he rides the boat back he can have all the "training excercise" flights he wants before he gets into port. If he flies out he gets at most one shot.

Not that he did that, just saying.

ALF,

Chances are very low that you will ever get to ride a fighter jet. Remember, helicopters land on aircraft carriers too. Plan on many trips on helicopters. Tell your recruiter to stop lying, LOL!

Good luck. BWAAAAAAAAAAHHHAAAHAAAA HAAA!

I was not saying I will get to ride in a fighter jet. But rather the prop jobs that fly on and off of the carriers. And my recruiter never said that I would get to. My Dad was in the US Navy, and he said they often had the Marines launch off the carriers in the prop jobs.

Just taking a shot at the recruiters. My brother has 17 years in the Navy. The only advice I can give you is to keep your mouth shut in boot camp and do what you are told. Don't volunteer for anything. Everything else you will have to experience to comprehend. It's a different world.

Good luck recruit

I forget which magazine had the recent article about TTD and new in 2003 coasters (Pop Mechanics, or Pop Science) but they said your head can face 20g's in a good sneeze.

------------------
SFWoA TL 2003!

Plus that sneeze can expel air & whatnot at 100mph! Can you imagine we can sneeze faster than MF? It'll take a mighty one to beat TTD. :)

Jet fighters pull 12G's turning around in 500ft (diameter) at 500mph. The pilots wear G-Suits to keep the blood to the brain, still, they grey-out & even red-out at -2G.

Apparently Intamin has a prototype 200mph launch system. I calculated the height of a Top Hat for this speed at 1300ft! That's based on no friction though. 3000ft for 300mph.

What can a park do with a 200mph launch?

shoot...during my allergy season, i can sneeze faster than a Lockheed SR-71 ;)

(which for those that dont know, thats over Mach 3, lol :))

Taipan: I think that you need to check your math. A 500 foot diameter circle at 500 mph would require 67 G's. Ouch :)

12 G's would be a 2800 foot diameter circle at 500 mph. Even then though, I suspect that fighter jocks can't pull 12 G's for the over 10 seconds that it would take to fly a full circle under those conditions.

In any case, we are unlikely to ever see any rides that equal carrier take offs and landings since they exceed ASTM limits for amusement rides.

If you want better acceleration and more G's during launch then simply ride Hypersonic XLC at PKD, or ride Dodonpa in Japan. Both accelerate faster than TTD, Dodonap moreso.

Actually I got "500ft at 500mph = 12G" off the TV series "JAG." Never checked if that was correct. Yeah, thought 500ft was a bit suss for a F-14.

Dodonpa hits 107mph in 1.8secs. That right? Same time as XLC? Thought it was more like 2.3sec - that's Xcelerator's. What about XLC as the prototype - 1.47sec?

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned TTD's launch being a tad bit long - getting uncomfortable. Mainly the GP said that I think.

I would like to comment on what Taipan mentioned about the launch being to long and getting uncomfortable. I haven't ridden TTD yet but I have rode on XLC twice, and even THAT launch, for me, made my stomach have this weird / boarding on uncomfortable feeling. I can only imagine what this one would be like being 40 MPH faster.

The real issue isn't that fact that the launch is faster, but that it's longer. I'm sure a Dodonpa style launch is more comfortable than TTD's because by the time you realize you're getting obliterated into the back of your seat, you're already long past the launch.

I put things this way.

Hypersonic is like getting kicked in the chest by a mule, Dragster is like having an elephant stand on you.

Each one is extremely intense but in different ways.

God bless Intamin, Company that I love. Stand beside her, and ride her, from the opening to the closing of the day.
