TTD Down For Remainder of Season, Just Announced

I'm not even a KK fanboy...I rode it once this past year, and haven't really had the strong urge to ride it again. If the line is short enough, then I'll hop onto the ride, however, I don't want to wait 3 hours for it again (in my case, it was about 6 hours total). I feel as though my time is better spent riding Nitro, Medusa, and (next year) El Toro!

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

Just to be sort of an ass...

Xcelerator works almost everyday, and it's a better ride than either TTD or KK.

Oh the irony...;)

It's also not the height or speed of these two. Kinda like Storm Runner which happens to be my favorite of the Intamin coasters being compared here.

The whole reason for my many laps on KK was a Q-bot and the thought that I could find a seat that gave a ride to be raved about. I have not found it so I will move on and wait for El Toro.

I am also awaiting the Point to announce their next coaster. And as I have said on other boards CP is on my plans for next season so they must do something right to make me want to go back.

To get this back towards the original theme I will ask a simple question TTD and KK are they park maintenance problems or design problems? I say don't blame the parks no more ... INTAMIN is the issue, for designing them.

LOL! :)

Yeah, there is some sweet irony in that the best two rockets in the US run much more consistently than the two that lose their novelty after a few laps.

I found Storm Runner to be much more fun than Xcelerator and Xcelerator to be much more fun than TTD.

I rode all three in the timespan of 18 months and my trip report after scoring the third rocket (Storm Runner) in 2004 read:

California has the first, Ohio has the biggest, but Pennsylvania has the best. :)

So yeah, basically I enjoy the irony as well. The one trick ponies don't see to 'keep it up' as well as the versions with more substance.

One trick ponies is right. I rode TTD last year, and though I liked it, I still had more fun on Raptor.
I wonder how that will affect their attendance.

To answer that question from above, it's split. The major breakdowns (months) are the cause of Intamin's lack of experience with such a sophisticated ride: The cable snaps, the floor of the trains suddenly dropping and hitting the track, and who knows what with TTD now. But, the parks are also to blame. They need to have those spare parts ready so down time isn't months at a time. Another thing I think should be done, especially with parks like CP and SFGA, is when they have 2 or more intamin coasters, they should have an "Intamin Specialist" on call. They shouldn't have your rinky dinky mechanics pushing random buttons to see what will turn the ride back on. An Intamin specialist will know the ins and out of every inch of the ride, as well as know the electronical configuration of the rides like the back of his or her hand. This way, when the ride goes down, the Specialist knows exactly what, or has an idea of what, cause the ride to break down.

That's what I would do if I owned CP or SFGA.

Don't underestimate the park's people. As much as TTD has gone down, their maintenance folks probably are 'Intamin Specialists' at this point. :)

^ LOL, Lord Gonchar, I couldn't agree more! :)

Or, on the other hand Gonch, each breakdown could be totally different then before (What is it, 10,000 moving parts?) and they're right back at square one again. Just playing Devil's Advocite. ;)

Anyways, I can't say I'm happy about this, but she did have a decent year. Still unacceptable in terms of downtime, but better than 2003/2004. I got the opportunity to ride, it was worth it. Once. There is still MF or Raptor in the meantime (Which, IMO, Raptor beats it hands down). And look towards 2006. Unless they "TAER IT DOWN!!11" by then.

How many Intamin coasters are currently built at GADv? 2 (#3 opens next year)

But CP does have 5(?) I think so they may be able to have a better relationship with Intamin. And get a specialist to work there.

I would hardly call it a decent year when it will be down for practically two months and had intermittent days of downtime throughout the year. If you look at it this way, it’s as bad as when it operated in 2003, except we were lucky that the down months were September and October not June and July. They are pretty lucky this series of breaking mystery parts which have no replacements didn’t start in July.
If that was directed at me, I suggest you read my post closer. I clearly state that it was still unacceptable in terms of downtime. However, it closed for the 2 months on Labor Day, the day Cedar Point switched over to weekends only. That's a giant difference if it broke down, say, the middle of summer. Still, as I said, unacceptable.

Just to add fuel to the fire. Which Intamin Rocket coaster ran the least amount of days this year?
Kingda Ka, it didn't open till mid may, then got broke in the first week of june until the first week of aug.
Yeah, and what year is this for TTD, and what year is this for KK. The reason KK didnt open on time was because construction was still going on, not because it was broken down so you have nothing to say. *** Edited 10/13/2005 9:13:18 PM UTC by NYCoasterGuy***

Coasters Riden - 184
And the reason a KK train ripped up half the launch track was...?

There's no point to be made for reliability with either one of these jokers. Except that they reek.

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

Meh, I rode them both this year. Dragster is my fave but I could really care less.

There *are* other coasters at CP. :-P

Hold on, I never said it didn't open until May becasue of it being broken. I knew it wasn't finished. I'm sorry, but YOU, my friend, have nothing to say.

is the argument that it was still being constructed and tested REALLY any better? It just shows shotty park maintenance instead of ride maintenance. A bigger cloud of dissatisfaction is a lot worse.

This can only be said because so many SF parks have had REPEATED periods of, um, "extensive construction." HOW late did 'X' open??

I agree w/Tina. CP has plenty of coasters. I think Raptor's fantastic.
