Train at top of Goliath As We Speak!

The reason why they aired this story is because they ran out of Chandra Levy updates ;).
It was Titan and it really annoys me that the media have blown this news story SO out of proportion... CBS interrupted the soap opera The Young and the Restless to air this "breaking" news story!

I emailed complaints to three local stations. "Tense moments as frightened riders..." I admit that being stuck an hour is a bit of an annoyance, but if the people can't handle the lift hill how were they going to be able to handle the ride? People these days... :)

Titan 1 has broken down (safety cutout)
Hey, the media have to do something to justify all the money that they spent on those helicopters. At least they aren't flying over some fire fanning the flames.
I Think its pretty fun being stuck on a lift.

Hehe, I'd rather see something about coasters than those boring soap operas.

The Jet Coaster ROARS!
The media still thinks coasters are like they were in the 20's: virtual death machines. Sorry. Coasters are more safer than taking a stroll down yo your local 7-11 for some milk. I just hope there isn't an article from the AP about this small event. Heaven forbid SD 2000 or MF gets "stuck"

I was stuck on SFWOA'S Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall today.....at ground level. No media. Had it been Batman, at the top, and a walkdown was necessary, media city.
I just love how the media decided to litterally fly all over it. I think that someone should really make a national news station for the people, by the people, no one is allowed to be an anchor, instead, it's all webcams. That way the people who knows what happens at events can explain why it's not really as bad as the rest of the media says. I think RideMan would be a good person for that job when it comes to coasters! If only you could go and explain to the country why it happend, and that it happens all the time!

5 Days left.
Personally, I find that getting stuck on a lift hill is rather boring after 5 minutes. I was recently stuck at the top of the Beast's second lift hill. It was fun for a couple minutes, but then it got boring. They sent up a couple of employees to make sure everyone was all right and to make sure no one got out. They were rather winded after their climb up. After about 20 minutes or so they released the ride and we returned to the station. End of story. No news reports, no freebies, not even a hope you enjoyed your ride on the Beast. Guess I just got stuck on the wrong ride.
1. I agree with those who feel the media blows
these things completely out of proportion.
2. To those above who would like to experience
getting stuck: that's silly. What's the point?
Once it happens, the ride gets shut down
for who knows how long. That is no good for
any of us.

I know you rider Gonna miss me when I'm gone

If it was Titan that makes 2 days in a row. It shut down nearing the crest of the lift on Tuesday night as we were walking towards it. It was going to be Angelas' first ride on a hyper. after waiting on the platform for 30 minutes they said that it would be closed for an undetermined amount of time so at 9:30 we went to ride La Vibora and they got it running at 10 minutes till 10. :( We did not get back in time for the ride.

Just a couple of G-force junkies!
So that's what happened. I'm come home from 3 days away and my sister tried to tell me what happened. My co-worker even tried to call me. I agree that this is just an excuse to use those over-hyped helicopter shots.

I actually know one news station out here in L.A. that dosn't think coasters are death machines. They even celebrate when one opens by sending someone to the park during the whole program doing there job from the park, they then are one of the first people to ride the new coaster and they telivise the whole ride. The funny thing is that the guy that dose this is scared of heights, so they showed his face when he went up Goliaths lift hill. My god it was funny!!! They had a different guy a while back that went on Desperado when it first opened and his face was worse then the new guy's face.

"I'm sure there are others, but most are at Cedar Point since it's obviously the closest park."

No joke here, but is CP really closer to you than SFWoA?

Is there anyone on this site who shares my concern over the possibility of having to walk 255' down a lift hill? I love thrill rides, but am afraid of heights.

Congratulations to all of you who are fearless. I envy you. But surely it is an unfortunate event when this happens. It would be overwhelming to me to have to walk down a large lift, and terrifying to have to assist my daughter in doing so. I guess that means it wouldn't be reasonable for me to ride a hyper coaster with my daughter, as it seems I need to be comfortable walking down the lift before I ride up it. How sad; sharing my love of coasters with my daughter has been a fantastic experience for us both.

I am so glad to read the wonderful safety statics on coasters, and I would certainly not favor government legislation in the area of ride safety, but this event is quite discouraging to me. When rides don't operate consistently, it makes me feel uncomfortable both as a rider and as a parent of an avid rider.

This is especially discouraging in light of what I see at my local park, Six Flags over Georgia. On my last visit there, 5 major rides had problems, 2 of which eventually closed down for the day. No, no one was hurt as a result, and I understand that no machine is going to operate consistently 100% of the time, but it seems to me that ride maintenance is more and more of a problem -- at least at SFoG. Perhaps parks like Six Flags would do a better job with ride maintenance if there were more of an outcry from regular visitors.

Yes, it is sad the way the media has sensationalized recent events like this and the death on Goliath, but let me encourage you all to be sensitive to those who may not be comfortable with what happened on Titan.

And even more importantly, I think it is important for us to send a clear message to park management when we see ongoing problems with ride maintenance. Even if you are not concerned with the safety implications, no one benefits when one or more rides are down for the day.
Well they were made to hold onto the handrail and walk slowly... Unless you're INSANELY clumbsy nothing would happen.

I think it is sickening the way you are making light of people trapped 300 feet off the ground. I guess if it happened to you you would think differently about it.

It has happened to me, and it's not that big of a deal. Mind you, it was "only" 160 feet, but somewhere after a hundred, it all looks the same.

My situation was interesting because it was on Superman at SFA when the chain broke. That wasn't a stop, something actually broke. Furthermore, you've got stairs and a skinny little Intamin track with no stairs on the other side.

So what happened? A guy latched with fall protection, helped everyone out, they walked us down two at a time, gave us water, and that was it. All safety systems worked as they should.

It's inconvenient when things like this happen, but it's certainly not unsafe, as the news media would have you believe. If anything, it proves how safer the rides really are. Mechanical things break, but I for one am pleased that they still keep us safe when they do.
