Track begins traveling up tower of Cedar Point mystery ride

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

What appears to be an Intamin rocket coaster starts looking like a real ride, despite the lack of a formal announcement from Cedar Point. Track and parts are scattered across the Soak City parking lot while rows of footers appear at the construction site. View the photos in the GTTP news section.

Whoa, that ride is going to be huge! If it's going to be over 400 feet tall...Jeez it will be the tallest and fastest coaster in the world! Go Cedar Point! Push it to the Limit! :)

Glad to see up close pics of the track.

WHERE IS THE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

Damn Cedar Point for giving me a reason to go back again in 2003. I thought I'd be able to take a pass and hit some other parks, but what enthusiast is going to pass this up?

Thats gotta be 400ft+. The track hasnt even gone vertical yet and its deffinatly over 100ft tall. Its going to be amazing, i just hope the length of the right wont be short. I know it will bring 4-5 hour waits, if its a 30 second long ride im not even going to ride it. The worst part about Cedar Point is that in 2 days you only ride like 10 rides unless you go in the off season.

Not true, last year I rode every coaster (inc. Jr. Gemini) in 1 day, plus repeat spins on MF and Raptor, and a few flats. This was in June. I used my second day to repeat favorites and do other stuff.

We must be talking big here, and possibly getting closer to an announcement. When was the last time that there was a news update on a weekend?

or howabout CP **DOESNT** make an announcement, so when next season rolls around, us enthusiasts know what it is and half the GP doensnt even know about it!!

ofcourse that wont happen, but i wish it would. when i go back next season i really dont want to wait in a 4+ hr line after i already drove 12 hrs to get to the park anyway. but, knowing me, ill do it anyway...

-Why a car if i could have a coaster train on wheels??

Get a freeway for the rocket and ride MF untill the special time.

oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!!!! I cant wait for this baby!! Ugh, but thinkin of those lines, whew! How do you get freeway passes. I know that you can get them for MF, WT, and Rapter, and i'm almost positive that this monster will have a freeway line! Someone please tell me!

Ok, looking at this picture I'm a little confused. I am not one who believes that this coaster will be a racing or dueling or whatever you wanna call it........

But tell me why the red track is over on the farthest left side of the tower, and there is still a section on the right side that looks like a spot to put another section of track.

I really doughted that this coaster would duel but after looking at this I don't even know anymore. If they only have one tower, and the right side of the tower is just for the drop.....don't get me wrong, but that would be one hell of a skinny tophat.

Anyone else see this, or anyone wanna tell me that I'm wrong? Cause I'm really not even sure...

I had my doubts but now they got me I'm pretty sure it will be 400 feet and maybe even taller. Now I have to go back next year to.
Coastingohio, that's most likely a tophat (inversion) it appears to come standard on an Intamin rocket coaster. I do not think that even Cedar Point has the money for 2 racing/dueling 400 ft+ coasters :).

I've been seeing a lot of pictures just showing the structure of the new ride. I wish there were more photos showing the ride in the background of things so people can compare the size of it to other rides. I mean, places say that the tower is ~200ft but in the pictures it looks more like 100-150ft. I would really enjoy seeing some photos from the distance is all :) .
If this isnt open when i go during May im going to run around in circles until im so dizzy that i get the same effect i would get on that beast anyway. :)
Like Peabody, I rode all of the coasters plus several flats, saw laser show, spent some time on the beach, and ate slowly at TGIF in one day last June.
I know NitroFiend, I was at Knott's this summer and saw Xcelerator for myself. There will most likely be two towers, this is only the first.

So what I'm saying is why would the track be all the way over to the left, and not in the middle like Xcelerator. And with the section of the tower on the right, looking like it will occupy track, I'm starting to really question if it will be a dueling coaster.

As I said before, if this is the only tower.....and the right section of it will be for "THE drop," then, to me atleast, this tophat will be as skinny as hell.

maybe it will be a real Premier tophat, but intamin styled, like on Xcelerator, the tophat goes in to make the line of the train straight, so if its oppostite like in this crappy representation:

it would compensate for the skinny tower. *** This post was edited by Rctycoon2k on 10/6/2002. ***

Nitro-No one knows yet if that pic is true or not...except a few ;)

For a few of you who want to know the area and surrounding area of the new ride and just how big the construction site is, there are a few 360 Degree Spinning pictures and some more pics taken on 10-6-02 to compliment Jeff's great pics.

On another note. I think CP will announce after MA announces. Michigan's Adventure is also doing a TON of land clearing right now. Cedar Fair is pushing a few pennies into their park for 2003 all around. It looks like they are making some GREAT investments!
