Top 10 2002

"...and here we go down the second hill. That little click that nobody heard but me was where the old Arrow track gave way to Morgan..."

(No, there's no such "click" in the transition. You CAN see it if you know where to look, though -- just look for the different shapes in the crossties)

My problem is the almost anyone would put S:ROS at New England in their top 3 and I never see it on any of the shows.

Is it true its always happy hour here? If it is I'd like to stay a while....

EXACTLY! Coasters like Superman SFNE, Raging Bull, Timbers, they all would've made the list if enough people knew about them.

While I agree that it stands to reason that if G-man is listed then so should Titan, but if they really *do* ride alike, NEITHER ONE should be in the top ten list.

Remember where this list came from... a Discovery Chanel online poll. Not from a handfull of enthusiasts. Besides, would ANY 2 of us EVER agree on a Top 10 list? I didn't think so.

Nothing... NOTHING... can prepare you for... the Fourth Dimension!

Goliath's location is what makes many people consider it better than Titan. Goliath features more detailed theming, light show and memorial out front, tight ocation and the works. Riding in such a tight space through all those tight twist is what gets the people even more freaked out, unlike riding out in the open on Titan. Besides, Titan doesn't really take Goliath to the next level, although a extra helix is added, there is no big improvement to the ride. It's not like the transformation of S:ROS at SFDL to SFNE's version. I can agree that Titan is a great coaster, but if it were up to me, Magnum and Hulk wouldn't even be up there.

What do you mean out in the open? Goliath is just as out in the open as Titan if not more. Titan actually has some trees around its twist sections and has some grass under it, unlike Goliath which is just stuck in a parking lot with some theming and a few palm trees thrown in.Titan only goes over a parking lot for the first drop and part of the first turnaround.

No matter what I doubt this can ever be considered fair. Maybe they need a few different top 10 polls with different types, i.e. - hyper/gigs/speed, wood(posibly classic and modern). They could just expand the poll just to allow more coasters a chance.
I hobestly think that a few more rides should be considered for the top ten list. In my opinion Superman Ride of Steel in Six Flags America, Batwing in Six Flags America, Talon in Dorney Park and Steel Force Should at least be considered for the top ten list because me personally I love them.

DARIAN

What happened to Superman: Ride of Steel at SFNE! Everyone used to like it but now it's forgotten. How could Incredible Hulk beat out great coasters like Millenium Force and Goliath! The only reason Hulk won is because more people go to Universal then other parks. Not because it's better. It should not be conducted by a poll!!!!!!!!!

The Top Ten Coasters 2002 list was a little off, but not as off as the 2000 Napha list.
what you have to remember is that this poll is based (as far as i know) on people voting on Discovery.com. Most of these people aren't enthusiasts, they're just giving props to their home parks. Also, it probably has a lot to do with what the Disc. Channel wants to show. At the top of their list has to be nostalgic rides and rides like Hulk that look awesome, although may not give as intense a ride as we enthusiasts may like. Another factor is that they have to find nifty people who are really enthusiastic and camera friendly, and that probably sways their opinion on what rides to show. Perhaps i'm wrong, but i'm sure this particular show is more about ratings than anything else.

If you really want a more accurate poll, you have to look for more complex polls such as the Coaster's Choice and Internet Ranked Wooden Coaster poll (sorry if i got that wrong, but you know the one i mean), which require enthusiasts to register and spend time thinking about what makes a ride great. However, always keep in mind that a poll is just a poll, so complaining about it is asinine. Superman: Ride of Steel is my #1 coaster and it wasn't even on the list, but it's still my #1 coaster and i can always enjoy it just the same.

On a lighter note, the footage on the other 2 shows were very cool, and i enjoyed seeing so many rides pictured, even if they weren't talked about. They made Batwing look way cooler than I've ever heard about on here. Maybe a trip to SF:A is in order. Oh, and i'll say it again, because it bears repeating - that woman from FL on the Ultimate Guide was pretty cute. =)

Peace all.

Yes that one was it had thunderblot #1

Let's just take it for what it's worth. It's a show with some nice on ride video and commentary. Just forget about the whole "top ten" thing altogether.

Clearly a poll is skewed by the sample it takes. And since an accurate approximation of the popularity of something takes a massive sample, nearly all polls are bunk.

That being said; despite thte Beast being a shell of it's former glory and completely not deserving of a number one rating... I rather enjoyed that show. And wished i had known of its airing in order to tape it.

That's why the Hulk is #1. When I rode the hulk I really didnt't like it all that much. I rode it in the front and had a headache when I got off.. It's only the sec B&M that i have ever had a headache on. The other being Iron wolf

THIS WAS A POPULARITY CONTEST, ONLY!!! What a poor selection. Perhaps we should boycott thse stupid shows. They refuse to ever branch out and get some new coasters that are 'out of the way'. Where was:

-Boulder Dash!?!?!

-Shivering Timbers

-S:RoS (SFNE)!?!?!

-X

-Talon

They missed so much. I know some of the above aren't the *BEST* rides out there, BUT they need to start featuring some new coasters. They're going to lose viewers if they continue to use the same coasters over and over. What they should is:

Ban all of the coasters that made the poll the previous years so that it's fair competition.

Make it to SFNE for S:Ros and BDK!!!!

They should keep the coasters like Goliath, Millie, Magnum, and Hulk off because they were on the list last year and we know their great rides they should of gave the new coasters a chance like batwing, X, V2, the rollercoasters that was built in 2001. The woodies were good choices even though they should of showed the Collosus coaster at that park in Germany. We saw those popular rides already last year it's time for new rides to be shown because the show seems old when their was last year rides that was on the show last year thats on the show this year.

It's amusing to see all the posts about how WRONG!!! the list was. It's a poll. Based on public opinion. So it can't actually be wrong. You may disagree with it, as do I, but it's still correct based on the poll they used to rank the rides. If it matters that much to you, vote in the next poll and tell everyone you know to do the same.
