Tomb Raider to PKD!

What exactly is TR:TR? (The ride experience I mean)
Well Tomb Raider at PKI is not popular, The Season passers are bored with it already and those who don't like flipping won't ride it.

Now I don't dislike the ride but it's aparent that maintence is not a priority and the ride just kinda ends with a thud.

Chuck, who would probably ride it much more if the show was put between alot of action.

I thought TR:TR was cool and fun, but I don't see myself waiting very long for an *attraction* where the actual RIDE portion is limited...perhaps if the ride were longer-lasting, or if there was a way to skip the pre-show...

Personally, I expect to see S-D *everywhere*....and I don't mean Summers-Dinn...;)

THAT S-D has already been everywhere, Gator...

Anyway, Tomb Raider at Kings Island is a Giant Top-Spin In A Box, running a program which can best be described as "lame". See, Kings Island had one concept for the ride: They wanted to dangle you head-down face-down over a lava pit. And so that maneuver, the only action they really had in mind for the ride, consumes about 30 seconds of a 2-minute ride time.

If the Giant Top Spin is capable of the kind of action the normal Top Spin can do, they could have a really exciting ride in there, and it wouldn't require a 2-minute show. Kings Island made the mistake of substituting show for ride, and the result is a ride that is not nearly as popular as they had hoped. It can easily be fixed by re-doing the ride program, but if they do that, they'll lose part of the show.

Not a decision a themed attraction designer wants to make, certainly!

I think they'll add a delerium or a frisbee on that site.

If TR:TR @ PKI isn't as popular as the park had hoped it would be then I doubt that PKD will make that same mistake.

Shaggy says its not a clone of Tomb Raider. That either means that we are getting a completely different ride or that the "attraction" part is just different. Therefore, not cloned.

Or is that wrong too? Hmm....Wild thinking, but don't X's trains resemble a cradle? Then again, we could get a Giant Frisbee themed to Tomb Raider...CRADLE of Life. OoOoOo...Fun stuff! I can't wait for CoasterCon to get the real information. I hope its something that none of us are guessing...well, the 4D would be nice, but that'd be pushing it. But it would fit in nicely with the breakdowns PKD has. I'm not sure on X's capacity, but if its low, that'll help also! But I don't think the capacity is too low, its just slow.

The possiblities are endless!

Or, more likely, this scenario plays out:

Suited Person #1: "Say, what ride can we install next season that'd justify raising our admission?"

Suited Person #2: "The Huss rides the other parks in the chain have been installing seem to do the trick. Did you see Canada's Jump2?"

Suited Person #1: "Okay, then, it's settled. We'll buy a Topple Tower."

Suited Person #2: "Uh. Yeah. So, anyway, what big summer releases doesn't Paramount
have coming up? Do they still make movies?"

Suited Person #1: "There's that big budget male fantasy thing going on with Angelina Jolie. . ."

Suited Person #2: "Great thinking! Tomb Raider: The Ride! Corporate will love the tie-in. ...wait, what do you mean Kings Island already has a ride called Tomb Raider: The Ride?"

or some such nonsense.

Well, I dont think PKD can raise the admission much, just because the other local park's admission is higher. PKD is doing a marketing thing about ti being less expensive to go there.

But they better not put in a Reptar!!! And an invertigo is out of the question, because there is one just over an hour away at SFA. I don't want to see a "Son of Grizzly" style coaster, just for the fact that it will be so tamed in a couple of years. But I giant woodie is right for PKD, because the woodies there are looked down apon because of their size among the GP. But Grizzly is such a wonderful ride.....

------------------
I hate it when "cooaster enthusiasts" put down coasters. Why can't we just have fun on all of them?

Dude, I'd love to have a reptar there, that ride is awesome!! I'd expect one there sometime soon, heck, the only family ride they have gotten lately is Ricochet....

Kiss me, I'm stylish!! :)

I got a idea, Fill the pit up on Delerium with bubbling lava :)

Chuck, who says the AWESOME RIDE don't neet it and thinks a Awesome ride could be made of TR:TR and put the show in the middle.

You really think so? I've heard quite the opposite from other people. Many folks seem to like this ride, including myself.

On the Tomb Raider issue, this is what I have just learned. In our employee newsletter, they have an article on the new statues, and the newsletter says that they're there only to promote the new Tomb Raider movie as well as the Tomb Raider show that is coming to Kings Dominion.

I don't know anything else, but I figured I'd pass that along, since I don't think it's a ride, from what I've read.

That is what I suspected. I had this odd feeling that the statues weren't there for a ride. Once I heard about the show, I started to doubt a new ride. Well, I'm still curious to what we will be getting next year. Just two more weeks till CoasterCon!

Speedfreak, you say you work there. Whats your name and what do you usually do there? If it is Ride Ops, tell us what ride you work, because I'm there often. I was there last Friday and Sunday.

Well if the tomb raider theming is in place to promote the new film then perhaps we can expect(or hope) for something none related to Tomb raider to fill the void left by DF's site.

Maybe a new coaster can be added that will cross the midway into the area behind Avalanche & that explains all the construction equipment sitting back there digging up the ground.

Im sure this isnt going to be believed by many at all, but take this for what its worth....

My brother says a friend of his told him that his dad was on a design team for a new coaster that will open in 2004. All my brother could supply me with (info wise) was that it was very twisted and was a bit crazy.

First coaster that came to mind when i heard this was a screamin squirell from S&S. I had already considered this a good canidate considering that there hasnt been one out, and PKD has always gotten something different because they are good for advertising. The only downside i can think of was the Hypersonic issue and the lack of help from S&S.

Take it for what its worth, i just saw this as a good time to bring it up.

Naa, I don't work rides. I'm a lowly ecology guy. The main reason I'm there is because I started back when I was 15, and they won't let you do rides. However, I was going to switch, but the incentive was too much. In rides you get $6.25 an hour and must work a strict schedule, due to the fact that you need a certain number of employees to run rides. In ecology, (sweeping trash, etc) it's $8.00 an hour and you get to work whenever you like.

You have to weigh your options sometimes.
