Togo Stand Ups - Why are they bad?

Take a look at this picture: http://www.coastergallery.com/2000/pki22.html

Those restraints look awesome! Unlike the B&M's they don't have the "croch hurter seat". You just stand up normally and you have a lapbar. That looks like a great idea and much more comfortable. I realize that the ride it self may be pretty bad but if B&M put this idea into their standups it would be alot more comfortable for us guys.

i don't feel like putting anything here

Those restraints are awful, just take my word for it. Also I do not understand why peeps have a problem with B and M Standups YOU DON"T SEAT ON THE SEAT!!!!!

Does CCI know how to make a bad coaster?

That does look comfortable.

Yeah actually you do or at least your butt touches it, but when you are on the actually ride you get forced into your "seat" and that is when it hurts :)

actually you do sit on a bicycle seat type thing, and having ridden both types of standup, i do have to say B&M's are less comfortable but just because the restraints are so huge and headbanging is a problem.

although ive never ridden a B&M standup, i really do like the TOGO restraints....they can be uncomfortable from time to time, but they allow for excellent airtime on the hills!! but i guess i will have to wait till i go to Carowinds and SFOG in june (Vortex and Georgia Scorcher) to form an opinion.

The togo's feel real unsafe to me. I've always disliked KC for that reason. I feel safe, uncomfortable, but safe in the b&m restraints.

I enjoy just letting my body go on the b&m's. By that i mean i don't hold on, just sort of stand there limp and it's a pretty good experience being tossed around within the restraint. On the stand up b&m's. I wouldn't try that on a togo!

From my experiences on both the Mantis @ CP and the Shockwave @ PKD, I found that Shockwave was MUCH more comfortable than Mantis. I thought Mantis was a pure headache and I did not enjoy the ride at all. Maybe because I was expecting too much since it is a B&M, but oh well. I would take a new Togo stand-up anyday, I love 'em!

I dont really mind either restraint. I think the problem with TOGO's are that they have some bad transitions that really throw you around more in the restraint unlike B&M. A lot like the older Arrow loopers.

I went to Sandusky, but there was no Callahan factory

Put me down as another who actually likes the Togo standup restraints. As a short person, I MUCH appreciate how much clearance my head gets with the side-closing shoulder "bars", instead of the overhead B&M style.

I've heard the Togo standups refered to as bootywhack but I liked KC. As for the restraints, I'd have to go with a Togo. That was back when I was 6' even so now that I'm 6'6" I don't know which would be better.
if you're sitting on the seat on B&M standups, you're not in the proper riding position. yeah, you'll touch it, but if its at the right height, then you can't be forced into it. the only way a B&M standup can get uncomfortable is if you're not riding in the right postion or if you're body is too big or too small to fit in between the seat and the harness.

I liked the Togo stand-ups a LOT...Shockwave not quite as much as KC. Here's where I get roasted, though. I think their layout makes them age MUCH better than the Beemers...(ducks head, waits for flying fruits and veggies)...

I never had a beef with KC itself. I thought it had the best air the park.

The biggest problem with the restraints was getting into them. You had to just about dislocate your shoulders.

I don't see anything wrong with the B&M stand up restraints. I think we're getting a little too picky. They are fine and SFGA Bob is completely right.

Count me as a Togo fan too...the main problem with the restraints is the difficulty getting into and out of them...once you're actually on the ride I think they're much better.

The ride layouts in general seem to be quite fun too, I'm not a huge multi-inversion fan so I've never been hugely impressed with the Beemers anyway while the bunny hop return runs on Sky Rider and KC always make/made me smile.

I liked King Cobra better than Chang, but appreciated the restraints of the B&M much more. The Togo restraints, I don't think, had much to do with the human body. There was alot of unnecessary body movement on KC.

Jacob, who's never heard a coaster restraint referred to as "bootywhack" until now.

The Togo Stand up restraints were fine, the layout quality and transitions were horrible though. For instanse, those helixs go into the altime hall of shame for most painful coaster moments.

an intresting page for any of you togo fans:

I think more than a few guests just didn't like the loose fit of the old restraints on KC.

Aside from that standing under the brakes was a killer for one's ears.
