TOGO or Not To Go.

I just think that TOGO makes some boring ass layouts. They tend to be very simple with no surprises at all. I wrote Sky Ride at wonderland too and loved the trick-track, but that was it. It was just a stand-up roller coaster at its simplest.

I also think that with all the misses the company has gotten, a lot of enthusiast don't like the ride (especially ones who haven't ridden more than one).

Although i have never ridden a Togo they have built some of the best looking rides in the world in my opinion (and some of the worst) Theres something about the Way bandit follows the terrain and the sheer size of Fujiyama.

As for that twist and dive inversion on the Ultra Twister heres a small pic of it http://ft.digital-coaster.com/features/ultra/rut2.jpg

Also the Infamous SFGAdv has a bigger better brother which features a dive loop like manhatten express as well. http://ft.digital-coaster.com/features/ultra/pal2.jpg i hear its one hell of an improvement on Viper too. (At Hamanako Pal Pal) Peabody did you ever get to ride Bandit??

Hmm, I rode ME in 2001 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The drops are fun, the twist-n-dive is one of the best inversions ever, and there's some good air and helices after that. Yes, it's rough, but it didn't keep me from having fun.

I also liked King Cobra a lot. The back seat had *huge* air on the first drop, as well as dropping into the helix and over the large bunny hop before the trick track. I really miss it.

I love the TOGO standup coasters at the Paramount parks, but nothing else by them has left me that impressed (I, however, have never ridden a coaster outside of North America). I am one of the few people I know who actually liked the restraints on those coasters. Was/is there a TOGO standup with a different layout?

Yah, KC used to be my favorite coaster. I cant believe they tore it down for delerium. I mean it's the USA's first stand up coaster, was a big hit according to some posts I saw on this thread, and Delerium only took up the space for it's helix and a little more... Sure it had some safety problems that lead to it's deconstruction, but hey, doesnt every good coaster?(TTD for example)
I've ridden Shockwave (PKD) and Viper (SFGADV). These are the only 2 coasters I hate. Both are painful and the trains/restraints suck, but thankfully they're pretty short

I've been on two Togo coasters and hated both of them. Viper (SFGAdv) is too rough and Shockwave (PKD) had horrible restraints.

Having ridden KC, ME, Viper, and Shockwave, all I can really conclude is this: 1) The T-n-D is a very cool maneuvre, and I'd love to ride it on a *smooth* coaster: and 2) King Cobra was the best of the lot by a long LONG way....

bill, hoping that Skyrider (whenver it comes my way) turns out to be more KC and a LOT less Sh**wave....;)

It seems today, that all you see, are violins in movies, and sax on TV....

I loved King Cobra when it was at PKI and Viper at SFGAdv was just plain wrong in all the right ways. Windjammer was a bore, but I didn't think it was very painful or anything. I could see why people wouldn't like Viper or Windjammer, but I'll have to give a thumbs up for TOGO. There's only one coaster/ride manufacturer I really dislike so far and it's not Vekoma.

TOGO = Terrible Old Goof Offs

I think the TOGO company cornered the market on bad engineers - they hired a rag-tag bunch of hooligans and it shows (actually I have no idea about the calibre of the people they hire but it is hardly the Arnold Palmer of the coaster world).

Manhattan Express is also the biggest disappointment to hit the public since the AMC Pacer, I might add.

When Viper @ SFGAdv opened in '95, I thought it was great. When I rode it last year, it was awful... beyond horrendous. I don't know if it got worse or I just got spoiled by B&Ms, but I would think twice about riding it again. Ever. And I don't usually say that about coasters!

I've ridden Windjammer, Viper, Shockwave, King Cobra, UltraTwister, and Manhattan Express. UltraTwister is the only I'll re-ride, the rest were forgettable with the only interesting element ME's twist-and-dive.

Try Once, Get Off indeed.

The"Try Once Get Off" is good but implies a little too much enjoyment, Moosh ;)

I've found Togos vary from the OK (Standups), to the painful and not that exciting (Viper & ME), to the non functional (Wind Jammer).
I really quite like SFGAdv's Viper's first half. The first inversion, which seems like a predecessor to the "twist 'n' dive" is really quite incredible -- they should mount a collection plate underneath it :)

But, after that, ugh. What happened? The turns into and out of the heartline roll are horrendous and the ride ends with so much speed, on any coaster, I'd be complaining there should've been more track.

You know when you're sitting shotgun in someone's car and you involuntarily press you foot on the floor when you feel the driver isn't stopping fast enough or you think you might be in an accident?

That's the feeling I had entering the final turn on Viper, seeing the lack of banking and brakes, and realizing we were going way too fast!

Ouch!

That final turn on Viper is insane and while extremely intense, it was probably my least favorite part of the ride. I didn't find it to be painful, but it ruins the ride for a lot of people who might have enjoyed the drop and rolls.

Bad Togo: Windjammer

Really Bad Togo: Viper, ****wave

Not As Bad As I Feared Togo: Manhattan Express

I really honestly don't recall Viper or Sh**wave as being THAT bad....either I've gotten larger ;), they've gotten rougher, I've become more picky, or some combination of all three....

I tend to believe the LAST option myself...but then again, I *adored* KC...
