Toboggan, Riding & Is it a coaster?

Has anyone ever gotten stuck inside that tube on the ride up the lift? Now that would suck. I was clausterphobic enough in that teenie tiny car with myself slouched in as best as possible, but to be stuck in that tube inside a car they would never be able to get you out of, that is just plain scary. I remember my only two rides on this thing I was praying all the way up the lift that it didnt stop in the tube and breathing a huge sigh of relief once I started decending the spiral.

I've been on the Toboggan at Lakemont, but not yet at CLP. If I can find time to get up there, I may go for the credit now that I know it's open again.

Yes, in my book, they're coasters.

A +400' tall Toboggan would be real easy to fit in a small space. Just the thing for a park looking to break records without having to clear a lot of land. ;)

And pulling 9 G's by the time you get to the bottom wont produce any repeat customers. (They would be dead)

I enjoyed the Toboggan at Lakemont. Indeed it is loud inside that tube... should've brought some earplugs.

My wife and I tried to hit the one at CLP during our same trip through western PA. We got to CLP about an hour before closing on our way home, and decided to hit the Toboggan and Blue Streak. I'm still kicking myself for not riding Toboggan first. We hit Blue Streak, walked to Toboggan, and watched it close because of mechanical problems. Argh.

I just rode this with an 8 year old freind of mine last week. It is no where near my favorite coaster but it is still slightly amuseing for what it is. I used to think it was a torture device but have since changed my mind. I fit better now than I used to.

When I was forced on last week by my little friend, we just HAD to ride it over and over for about 15 or 20 times. It was his favorite ride in the park so I just went along. The last time we rode I was so relieved. He even asked me if it was a roller coaster and I replied...

"Yes, it is."

It has a steel track that looks like a lot of other steel tracks, even though it is a very small gauge. It has wheels that roll on the track, complete with upstop and side wheels. It coasts, even though it is breaked all the way down. It has a chain that lifts the ride vehicle to the top, complete with anti rollback device and chain dog. It even sports a few small, but intense, drops.

Lakemont describes the ride as a roller coaster. It is small and not like other coasters, but I would definatly call it a coaster.

I bet that's what CP is getting next year. That would be an ideal coaster for CP, expecially considering that they are running out of space. :)

And yes, I do consider them to be a coaster. Haven't rode one in years, but remember it being a pretty fun ride, although I didn't care for the cars.

Man, I cant believe I was able to fit my 6ft 3in. frame into one of those cars. I just rode the one at Little-A-Merrick-A and was having flashbacks of my childhood when I used to ride these Chance Tobaggan's. Although back then I fit into the cars no problem.

Besides my head being tilted forward to fit in from the car roof, I didnt mind this coaster at all. The one I just rode has loads of padding so the jerky bunny hops at the end didnt cause any pain.

Ric Flair was hitting on the female host, he told her - "Space Mountain may be the oldest ride in the park, but it has the longest line." WOOOOO!

I consider them coasters (just as much coasters as kiddie coasters).

I think the unofficial history of the Tobbogan coaster goes back somewhere to 16th century Spain. They were orginally torture devices used during the Inquisition. If not, they certainly could have been!

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"
