Timberhawk = Roar? I don't think so...

Chuck, I kinda agree...SF definitely was pretty much done dealing with CCI, and may or may not have given S&S a chance to build a wooden coaster without any experience in the field. Hiring Denise Dinn...(and, it seems, McNulty, perhaps in a package deal?) gave S&S more credibility in the wooden coaster market. So now, with Stan Checketts as the person in charge, CCI, under S&S gets a whole new lease on life with SF....the company that really is THE primary buyer in the market, and MUST be courted...

bill, who thinks all the GCI's were *great* rides, Gwazi being the weakest of the batch....until now...:). "Modelling" a coaster after a GCI ride *in any sense* is a good thing to me...I almost always get air, and a smooth, fun ride...

Rob, I guess your comment is exactly what I am getting at. It just makes no sense to compare them or to even name drop. Only enthusiasts would know or care, and we know it's a poor comparison, so.......? Just plain weird.

Roar is the closest SF woodie in terms of proximity, right....maybe they JUST looked at a map thinking "it's a good ride, the most likely one of OURS that someone *might* have ridden"....perhaps they learned from the CP/SFWoA marketing disaster that they'd rather compare with their OWN products than with those of the competition. Proof that SF can and does learn from their own mistakes...hmmmm...

What other great wooden coaster in the SF chain could they compare Timberhawk to?? Not to mention, I can guareentee you they'll use SFMW's Roar to promote the coaster. Once again, instant recognition. Why are we still surprised by SF promotion?

Oh, again, I am not surprised... I guess I just question Why Roar? Why any SF ride? Why not Timberhawk! Why not an "artist's depiction?" It's easier, and honest even. ;)

I'm with nasai. Roar West was fun, but relatively forceless. And, I wasn't stapled; I had a reasonable amount of room. It was a cold day, though, so I'm chalking it up to weather, and hoping for a better ride next time I'm out that way. I'll be in Roar East's neighborhood in a few weeks, so maybe I'll get to compare.

I have never been stapled on Roar, and I have always found it forceless, so to each his own. Then again, I like demonic riding coasters, ala Coaster, so what do I know?

Is Timber hawk going to run with PTC's or G-Trains? I sure hope it is the former.

All who think Mean Streak needs a match taken to it say I.

I also think it's normal for Six Flags to do this. It's comparable to how the commercials for Nitro always show shots of Raging Bull and Goliath. For the new SUF commercials they said "from the makers of Nitro comes Superman: Ultimate Flight!" This is just another way for SF to use their popular rides to help market the new ones.

I think they said Timberhawk will be like Roar! is so they could use it in the ads.

While on my way to Vancouver BC for the PNE Coaster event,I did stop at EV to check out construction on Timberhawk. Although I have never seen or ridden Roar in person, Isaw very little visual similarity between Roar and Timberhawk. TH looks as though it will have some airtime moments where I hear that Roar is lacking in that capacity.

Meet me at the PNE on April 17,2003. Happy 45th birthday,Coaster!

Nasai, when is the last time you've ridden Roar? I also found the ride to be pretty forceless it's opening two seasons. Last season, I was shocked at how rough and tumble this ride has become. The last 30 seconds of this ride now has more ejector air than Ghostrider does. The final hop into the breaks is pretty darn good. :)

I should mention that I'm more of a fan of out and back style woodies than I am of twisters, but Roar has grown on me. It's got a terriffic opening two drops, lackluster bunny hop that was built far too tall to provide any air, and a killer finish. It's one of the few twisters that I like. But like you say, to each his own. :)

Uh, I rode Roar in August of last summer, so I don't know what I could say about that particular day. It was nice, pretty smooth, not really anything, but a good ride. My personal fave moment is the shed. I just think the hops through it are marvelous. I don't recall the ending having any violent or remarkable air, but I also was extremely dehydrated that day. Perhaps I just wasn't into it?

Perhaps. Or perhaps it's just not your type of ride, which is also understandable. Usually, CGI coasters don't do much for me but stand there and look beautiful. Roar, at least for me, has broken in to the point of being a fairly exciting ride.
