Timberhawk = Roar? I don't think so...

nasai's avatar
What's the deal with Six Flags comparing the new S&S ride, Timberhawk, with Roar? I have been out to the park, and looked at the ride many times. Most of us have seen the plans for the thing as well. Yes, they are both twisters, but hey man... that's it. There is nothing similar between the two. Is this lack of marketing savvy on Six Flags' behalf? Does anyone care?

I have ridden Roar.... I have met Roar... Timberhawk, sir... you are NO roar. (Thank God) ;)

Great quote, nasai.

Thanks.... I think. ;) Seriously, though. I love Roar. Fun ride, but not a hint of airtime for me, at least. I want a demon. A bucking bronco. Bring it on, S&S.

Well, I know that! 147... remember? ;) Can we keep this thread on topic guys? Granted, if there is no action, we can take it to the outlands, but for now, please?

Six Flags is all about name-branding and instant recognition. I'm surprised they didn't name the ride Roar, whether the ride is actually similar or not. Pleasantly surprised I might add...

The only reason Roar doesn't have airtime is because of the lap bars that don't lock until they are squeezed tight on your legs like a tourniquet. The way to avoid this is to hold up the bar with your foot, and slouch when the ride ops come by to check. Believe me, there is PLENTY of airtime. This is Roar West we are talking about here BTW.

147...?!??. Wow, Rob is a LOT older than his info states...;). But wouldn't we be taking it to the Dustbowl (dust bin?) instead of the outlands. (We have your woman Outlander).

On to the topic....finally! w00000t! I'm *thinking* that what they MIGHT mean by "Roar-like" is that the airtime will incorporate quite a bit of laterals, throwing riders up and out to the side....sort of like the second hill on Cornball, where you *exit* to the right side of the train...;). Typically, O-n-B coasters feature vertical air, like say Phoenix. But if the crest of the hills is twisting/turning (like on most GCI's) then instead of being thrown *forward*, you'll get tossed to the side...in theory, this could be the IDEAL coaster for *Mooshing*...

edit: Good point DWeaver, now they're gonna have to make *another* different T-shirt...;) Wonder how long before someone else in the chain gets SOME ride with this name, LOL...at least it's a GOOD name, thankful for that!

Has SF given the overused clone names to any ride installed in non-branded parks?

Well, again my issue is the fact that all the local press releases are labelling this as a Roar clone. They actually use the word. Why? It's not. It never was. It's S&S, not GCI.

Well most park officials(those not directly involved with the ride) couldn't even tell you the difference between S&S and CGI, so certainly the press is only going to go by Six Flags own words. They otherwise don't have a clue.

I truthfully think Timberhawk is a test for Six Flags and S&S. Remember in 2000 when CCI built 5 great woodies for SF and then SF stopped paying for them?

Chuck, who thinks they would not deal with Denise if S&S were not behind her. Or it could have been all to do with them Gerslauer Trains and a lapbar braking in half on BOSS.

It is my personal belief that Lesourdsville Lake is closed for 2003. I'll let you know if anything is announced.

I've noticed this too. What the news article said was that the coaster was "modeled after Roar". I think they were just saying they were both twisters. I agree that the 2 are not similar at all. I personally love Roar and have found a pretty good collection of airtime on it. I think Timberhawk will be a big hit and I can't wait for June.

Considering that most folks in these parts have no litmus test to compare with when SF mentions Roar!, it's a ridiculous thing for them to say. More people in this area have probably been to Playland and Silverwood, than have been on either of the Roar coasters. Heck, compare it to CTR in Puyallup if you want to get your point across.
