Thunderhead update

Well, I just talked to Jeff on the phone and he had nothing but positive things to say about Thunderhead! They've been down there for about two weeks now (Jeff Pike, Chris Gray, Dan Komos, Mike Boodley and the rest of the GCI gang...) and have been testing, putting the trains on the track and riding the coaster into the wee hours of the morning.

Jeff said, "We're running both trains, and again, it's the best ride we've ever built. The dynamic forces on this ride are beyond the Wildcat but it's perfectly smooth. Nobody is going to be disappointed by this ride!"

Just thought I'd post a little update :)

Sounds good! Maybe we have a new contender for top woody.

Man...I really need to try and incorporate Dollywood into the trip plans this year. Damn you, tight budget!

Yeah, really...it's about time a GCI makes it to an official top ten list...what gives? ;)

Didn't Ozark Widcat grab the #9 spot on Mitch's poll last year? That's not anything to ignore!

That said, Thunderhead looks even more amazing than Celebration City's ride. The banking on that ride looks absolutely unreal! Its definitely the most unique ride that GCII has designed, more unpredictable than their other twisters, if that is at all possible.

I'm very excited that they are satisfied with their ride. Now I know it should be great!

Anyone interested should try to stop by Dollywood this year. A GREAT looper, super live entertainment, the big steam train, and a whole bunch of water rides! Not to mention the wonderful employees and overwelming atmosphere! It's a very nice park.

Thank you so much for this update Andrea. I am very excited about this ride.

Do you know how do things look for opening weekend?

What's so incredible is that it hasn't even broken in yet. Most woodies take a month or two to break in. If it's running this good from the get go.......no telling what we'll be in for by May or June. I have a friend going there Monday to ride it. He's a personal friend of Mike Boodley and got the invite the other day. I was suppose to go too but couldn't get away from work. Hopefully I'll get some pics from him to post. *** Edited 3/25/2004 1:16:01 AM UTC by HarryTraver***

I'm kind of dissapointed that I'm going to have to wait a full month after it opens to get on this ride.

Haha!;)

Thunderhead May 7th, getting ready.....

Im going on Sat. for the sneak preview day and stand there and stare til they let me on! ;)

I'll be going back on April 8th or 9th, not sure, since im a local, it dosen't matter to me anyways.

I have now booked a trip for Friday, April 23rd. I am so excited. That is all I can think about. Tennesee Tornado and Thunderhead--I love bad weather.
What are the odds there will be a few bugs that need ironed out the first week or so ?
I'll be there April 10-11. This is by far the most exited I've been about a new coaster since I started riding. Dollywood, here I come!

You do know that Dollywood is closed on Easter Sunday(11th). Just checking ;)

I wouldn't count on much downtime. GCI's been doing their thing for quite some time, and add the fact that it's a woodie, I'd count on it being open when it's supposed to open.
