Thunderhead Takes Top Woody spot after only two weeks of service!

No..... bad Duke bad....

Disney's Latest Version . . .

It's a world of corruption
A regime of Eisner
It's a world of faults
Just look at the Alamo
There's a bad Tigger that provides a scare
That it's time we're aware
Save Disney now, if anyone cares

There is just one moon
and one golden sun
and a smile means friendship
to everyone
though the mountains divide
and the oceans are wide
it's a small world after all.

(Is it bad if I didn't have to look that up?)

Luckily I do not remember that song being played while I was at Dollywood opening day......or else I blocked it out. lol.

I really dug the Mexican instrumental tunes though, coming from a band across the creek (yep, a creek) from the Smokey Mountain Wilderness Adventure sim ride.

Can't wait till this weekend!

Bill, I have a feeling Thunderhead and TN Tornado will rock your world all the way back to Florida. You will love 'em. :-D

Im not saying Thunderhead is bad by any means. I haven't ridden it and when I do then I'll cast my vote :)

Thing is that new coasters always seem to rank high. Also recently closed coasters.

Where a coaster stands over the long run is more of a factor of my seeking them out.

Chuck, who will probably take a two day trip down to DL this year to ride this bad boy.

The rumors are true...Thunderhead really is that good. It's GCI's best work to date IMHO. Definitely a front seat ride. It does things that "just ain't right", especially the station flythrough. Very, very cool ride - enough so that I regret not upgrading my ticket to a season pass :(

Well, if Godsey says it... it must be true!

Actually, I heard this coaster was planned for his 60 bajillion acre park, but when he got bored with that game, he sold the design to Dollywood.

Looks damn awesome, but this whole "move over Raven" thing was all started by Godsey. I'd at least give it the bulk of the season and hear some more reviews/reports from different people before really making those sorts of claims. After all, it's not one delusional enthusiast who decides those things (evidently it's many).

I miss Coker...he could actually write. No offense.
Chris Godsey, you mean that tool is still around? *sigh*

I agree Playa, Coker could write. Though most of it was all in a promotional way he could find the right words.

Chuck, who thinks Godsey is just ridding the shirt tails.

Read my mind. I'm still drooling over Thunderhead but how can anybody take anything the guy says seriously?

Got my first rides on Thunderhead yesterday, and it was spectaclar. Smooth, fast, lots of airtime pops in both the front and back of the train. This coaster packs a whallop in its short 45 seconds. No "anticipointment" here! Top Woody? That's a hard one for me. I think it's hard to compare something like Raven, Boulderdash, and Thunderhead because they're so different and they have different goals. But Thunderhead definitely holds its own against such highly rated coasters.

Be sure if you visit the park during the Festival of Nations that you at least see the Chinese acrobats if you see nothing else. They're incredible little kids. *** Edited 4/13/2004 3:13:47 PM UTC by xrae***

Little kids? They're in their 40's! ;)

I'm glad to hear such good reviews. Was a little worried that the second golden age of wood was coming to an end. If this coaster boosts attendance, perhaps we'll see another flurry of wood as the economy picks up steam.

I'm still hoping for wood at Castle Park in my hometown.

Is it just me or does this make no sense:

"You really can't appreciate the HEAVILY banked turns in this section until you ride it for yourself. 78 Degrees doesn't sound so impressive with several steel coasters with turns over 90 degrees, but once you ride this coaster, you understand just how insane 78 degrees is on a wooden coaster. People, that is 2 degrees less than Millennium Force's first drop."

He's comparing the degree of the bank on Thunderhead's turns with the degree of steepness on MF.

One is a side to side measurement and the other is a front to back measurement - the two have nothing to do with each other except for using language to sell something in a spectacular way.

Right?

True, the two dimensions he used are for elements which deliver very different experiences. It would have been better if he compared Millennium Force's first overbanked turn....which is more banked than Thunderhead.....but anyway. I guess he had to use something...

Fate is the path of least resistance.

Yah, and the picture the he claimed looked like MF's overbank just didn't cut the mustard for me. Oh well. I still want one of these out West (yes, I'm greedy). ;)

"78 degrees may not sound like much, but folks, that's only 2 degrees less than 80 degrees...which is only 10 degrees less than 90 degrees. Plus, it's only 8 degrees more than 70 degrees which is a mere 25 degrees away from 45 degrees, which is halfway between 0 and 90 degrees. Best of all, it's 37½ more degrees than 40½ degrees, which is the exact angle of the sixth support from the midcourse brake on Fujiyama."

Ha!

"78 degrees may not sound like much, but that's only 2 degrees less than the average high temperature in Pigeon Forge (home of Dollywood) on May 31 - that's enough to make you sweat!"

What are you talking about? He's building a theme park, remember? He had a Web site and everything. He had an impressive portfolio and client list.

Ahem. Anyway, yeah, Bob can certainly catch the feeling and excitement of our little hobby, and I hope his book made a few bucks. I'm sure he's not getting rich off of his Web writings.

Bob is one of the few people in the coaster community I can say I actually admire. He really does embody what I like about coaster nuts in general.

Anyways, what was the deal with Chris's park? It was going to be down in the south somewhere, if I remember. And I believe that launched 4D was mentioned a few times by someone. Something about a Volcano. Eh, the details seem a bit sketchy now.

LOL, Vater, have you been hanging out with Den again?
