Thunder Dolphin?

Tuesday, February 4, 2003 11:31 AM
Ok.... My wife is Japanese, and I love the Japanese people, but the new Intamin at Korakuen has been named, and it is... Thunder Dolphin! .....HUH? This takes the cake in my book. Granted, I won't be complaining in a few months when I take a ride on this bad boy, but Thunder Dolphin? At least it wasn't named something really goofy, like Top Thrill Dragster. ;)

Isn't Thunder Dolphin a Japanese superhero?

I don't know if it is a Japanese superhero. Doesn't ring any bells for me. I did a brief search on Google, and no Thunder Dolphin as a character. Perhaps I didn't search correctly. Hmmm... But still.... Thunder Dolphin?

Thats a "whale" of a name.

Japanese tend to name all kinds of things like this though. Look at the translations of the names of some of there WWII ships.

Well, I actually kinda like the name. But besides that, it looks awesome.

Actually, I am not nit-picking at all... My tongue is planted firmly in my cheek, but I think it's a little strange, don't you? Now, it would be spot on if it were named Super Thunder Dolphin Funstar, or Joy Pop Thunder Dolphin, or Matthew's contribution above. I love Japan... It is the land of Zen and sugar-free cotton candy (and that is exactly what the entire country is like....:)).

Hey, let us know when you go! We want pix! I've been drooling over it. Have you been to that park before?

Eric, no, I haven't, but yes I will! :) I am looking forward to the logo as well. I imagine it will be loaded with thunder bolts and anime! ;)

Peabody, I hate that term, but I always laugh when my wife talks about coming over to ride coasters.... Jet coaster this... Jet coaster that. Truly funny. Did you know that Steel Dragon 2000 is a "jet coaster?" ;) ...ugh.

Well, Vater... it actually sounds like a character from a manga I read while there last year. Still, it does sound a little farfetched, eh? Oh well, you got me!

Great looking ride, but it's almost as bad at Top Thrill Dragster in the naming dept. "Super happy lucky ultra fun joy coaster!!!"

Reminds me of the strong bad about the Japanese Cartoon for some reason.
