Thoughts on Cedar Fair's Future

Martling, you asked how CP could market WT with SFWOA in the same market? Very easily. Promote Wicked Twister as the "world's first double twisting Impulse", and as the tallest and fastest of it's kind. While people are hooked watching Wicked Twister animation, also remind them that Snoopy Rocks On Ice is coming to the park, so there are thrills and new attractions for the entire family this year. Now, compare that to the "negative campaign" of the park down the road, in addition to the fact that they are "only" getting seven used flat rides, and some new tigers...and you've got yourself one excellent marketing campign for 2002.

Vertigo, they arent going to build a woodie for quite a while. This has already been said on this site in a different forum. They see that they already have Mean Streak and although "popular" in its early years, not many people will run to that now. Blue Streak is also there which gives them there classic wood and IMO this has the best airtime in the park. You see how long it took them to build another woodie after Blue Streak. I wouldnt expect another one for a while. They built WT because they know its a very popular type of coaster, and plus they get some more records out of it. I wouldnt mind a CCI, ive ridden a couple and they are good. If they put one in, good, i'll ride and probably love it. But i just dont see it happening.

I'd add that, regarding marketing, it's a lot easier to hype a single ride and make it seem like the greatest thing ever in 30 seconds than it is to do three big coasters. The only thing they effectively communicated in 2000 from SFWoA was that the name changed, and they managed to undermine that the very next year with another name change.
