The Unexpected

what would you say is the most unexpected thing your home park has ever done? you think one thing is coming, but its completely different.

for me, i would have to say that PKD's freefall was one of the last things i would expect to come around. i heard they had one a few years ago, but it was removed. and since i was told that, i thought a freefall was never a possibility at PKD, yet now there is one coming.

I would say chiller with lapbars. But I am so glad they got them!

Millennium Force was not completely unexpected. If we are talking Cedar Point than I would go with Lighthouse Point. After years of Camper Village being bitten off piece by piece for Challenge Park and Soak City, I was surprised they chose to expand it and add the cabins.

I would have put money on a third on-point resort hotel.

I was really caught off guard with a B&M flyer at SFOG, after two other "world's first" rides the year before (DV and Acro).

After all the cries of "exclusivity" from "those who claim they know" I'd say SFOG's B&M Flyer was a huge surprise - but not to me ;-)

Best recent surprise for me: Legend getting TWO shiny new PTC!

Even though my home park is PKD, the biggest thing that surprised me was S:UF at SFOG. I thought PKD would get a drop ride sooner or later.

PKD never had a freefall, unless you're thinking of X-treme SkyFlyer, its current sky coaster.

I'd have to say the most unexpected thing I've witnessed was Six Flags purchasing Adventure World and adding two new coasters, all in one season.

In unrelated news, I hate the word X-treme. It's spelled extreme, for crying out loud.

MM,Arrow, and X = Most Exciting

CP and Wicked Twister= Most disappointing

Just my opinion

Have you been on WT, coaster bob?

No love for the whiners

Definitely SDCity getting Wildfire. Throughout their history they had always been more focused on the pioneer theme than coasters, and they had never made any serious attempt to get a great coaster. And then, out of the blue, they plunk down $14 mil (or something close to that) to put in a huge (by SDC standards) steel looper from the premier company in the world. Needless to say, that came as a shock to a lot of people, probably just about everybody.

BTW, I've heard that Wildfire didn't have the success or draw that they hoped it would. No surprise, as it isn't big or unique enough to pull in guests from far away. But hopefully they'll keep the good coasters coming...

Yes I have.

In fact, I rode WT and Sumperman on the same day.

I'd have to say that Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, despite their inconsistent operating procedures, has been the most amazing. I never expected the park formerly known as Geauga Lake to add FOUR roller coasters in one season, add yet another the following season, purchase the former Sea World Ohio, and if that weren't enough... they are supposed to get an Intamin hyper next season. That's quite a bit. Now if only they could run the place as it should be run, we'd be all set.

Probably Raging Bull at SFGAm. I didn't expect it at all, but yet, there it is, and I love it.

Cedar Point vs. SFMM-like 15 isnt enough?

It's not my home park but PKI taking King Cobra out was devastating to me. RIP

As for my home park (SFGAm), I would have to say making AE run backwards for a whole season!! WOO!! Great ride!

Actually, SDC has seen a 30% increase in attendance so far this season and they didnt even add anything! For smaller, remote parks it takes time for great rides to rise to the top. Look at the two wonderful coasters at Holiday World. They took time to acheive greatness. Wildfire will be there very soon :)

I would say the biggest surprise for me would be the short rise and fall of S&S Power's last two products, the Thrust Air and the Absolutely Insane.. I expected a much better engineered product from them, but there were obviously some things that were overlooked.

Also, of course the problems with X were unexpected. Especially when Arrow themselves were SO confident in it!

SFAW actually getting a NEW ride!
