The Next X...

Six flags is so cheap. It would make me really mad if they just built the same 'x' all over the country. Where is their imagination? They should take Alton Tower's approach. They took a concept like the flying dutchmen and themed it the way coasters are supossed to be themed. Six falgs doesn't do anything. There idea of theming is techno music blaring while your waiting in line. Where's the creativity in that?

Six Flags is saving money by cloning, yes, and it is a very smart decision on there part.  At least 90% of the GP that visit a Six Flags park will not visit another different Six Flags park.  Six Flags above everything else markets to local markets, not the 5% that may visit another Six Flags park.  Just because we are enthusiasts doesnt mean we have to expect parks like Six Flags to not clone their rides so people around the country can enjoy the latest thrill.

I would be happy with an X clone at SFGAm as long as it had different colors and maybe a different name.  I don't really care.  Would you rather have nothing at your park or a clone?

Steven B:  who says coasters HAVE to be themed?  And what does theme have to do with the ride experience?

But are clones really all that bad. I used to think so but really all Six Flags is doing is trying to give everyone and equal chance to ride some of their best rides. If I wanted to ride X then I would have to travel from Detroit all the way to California. But if they build one at SFWoA then I can ride X without the traveling.

Its kind of like having a chain of stores. They put the same products in every store so a person doesn't have to travel far just to get a certain thing.

Jephry that's the most intellegent example I have heard in a while. That's *exactly* the point. You don't mind if I use that do you?

To further on that point, people still seem to think that parks have unlimited amounts of money to spend on original designs. Can you imagine the money that would be needed to create an new B&M design for each SF park? Not to mention theming and all the other crap that we spoiled enthusiasts demand from parks? Think about it.

Clones don't bother me, either.  If a park can put in an inexpensive, proven design to attract more visitors more power to 'em, especially if it allows them to put in something original later.  I've said this before:  *we* are the only ones who know there are over a dozen Boomerangs in the US.  As someone going to Knott's if they even care and I'd bet the answer is "no."
Cloning coasters can be a great thing for those of us on the otherside of the country who want to experience the newest coaster, but since were so far we just cant. Id be happy if my homepark got a good cloned ride. Id love to see a 4d at Great Escape...theyve got the land, and i can think of a perfect spot for it :)

Arrow's toughest sell is the price tag. There is a lot of steel on that ride. Big double-spine track, a huge matrix of supports... there's a lot to it. Of course, who knows now, since Arrow isn't manufacturing the steel, perhaps someone else can do it for less.

If Six Flags decides to install another 4D coaster, it will most likely wind up in the one Six Flags park without an inverted/suspended looping coaster.

I don't know about that.  I mean, SF parks with B&M Inverts have the consumer base to support a large investment like that, while parks with the smaller, and cheaper SLC's are in less populated areas.  An Arrow 4D ride is a significant investment for any park, I'd imagine, and I think you'd eventually see one popping up at another of SF's flagship parks, or some other chain entirely, like Universal.

While that is basically true that the more expensive rides wind up in parks that "perform" in a financial sense, don't forget that the park did receive an enormous B&M floorless coaster in 2000... a ride which I think a lot of other SF parks deserved before Fiesta Texas (I think I just gave away the name of the park I was thinking of...)

As you can see in this very early construction shot, X is built on a nice sized hill and it would be very hard without some major support changes to clone X.

Hopefully we see some chain like Universal buy a 4D and theme it heavily and maybe even enclose it and have an awesome ride.

acording to this shot and numerous visits to MM and X. the only thing they have to do to build this on flat land is build the lift longer and make a dip at the begining of the break run to compensate for a lower station. that would be neat to have a kicker at the end of this ride anyway. The only thing that is up on a hill is the station. Thats the only part of this ride thats on top of the hill. also make the rest of the supports longer that are on the side of the hill not really major work done here at all. X can easily be put on flat land.

LETS ROLL!! This place is dead anyway!

Cp needs one the most.
Wouldn't you agree.
Im hoping a park somewhere on the east cost gets a 4D coaster. I mean why wouldent they? it would be a good move for them. If it is going to be on the east cost im saying Maybe SFgadv in 2003 or SFA in 2003 i can really see it going to Sfgadv thou since they have alot of types of rides but nuthing close to X. What im trying to figure out is how come cedarpoint dident get one before SFMM?  Usaly between the park labels it would have been the other way around SFMM getting somthing cheaper (doubel twisteing impulse) and Cedarpoint getting the bigger better ride( 4D). I supose it shows that SFMM stands out from the rest of the SF parks, and that SFMM and Cedarpoint dont care about who has the best of the best.

CP doesnt usually build prototypes

I think that X2 will go to CP because they are in competition with SFMM.
4D isn't a prototype anymore.
14 Mill for a hyper with the technology of 4D is a pretty good value.Especially if X pacing is that of a B&M Invert. My question,If Arrow is not manufacturing the ride will the price go up or down.

X should have been named XXX

Pezmanguy, please tell me why I should have to travel to California to ride X? I think we will see an east coast version in the next few years.

Until you get a parking space with your own name on it, you're still part of the GP.
