The Legend loaded with brakes?

If other parks had anyone NEAR as good as Jeff Hammersly, wooden coasters wouldn't have the reputation amongst the GP for being rough.  Raven and Legend FLY through the course, no banging, no screeching, no shuffling.  Do folks from CF/SF/Paramount ever ride HW's coasters?  If so, I find it hard to imagine they don't try to follow "the leader" in wooden coaster maintenance...

No Lights, No Brakes, No Bell?!?!?!

I haven't looked at CCI's website since the New Year, but the tag says something like 17 multiple train operation wood coasters in the world are under their belt. I'm curious, do the ones with single trains have a extra train or is the MB Hurricane a multiple that never runs more than one? It's my only CCI so far, my guess is that it's a multiple, but I'd never know unless I asked.

I'm guessing it's safe to say Legend had only one train, since there's never mention of a spare.......

If it HAS an extra train, it's considered multi-train, even if it normally runs one.  Also Legend had one G-train, but WILL have two shiny new PTC's...yum!

Thanks for clearing that, rollergator. They only run one, and switch them out on different days, like one goes into the shop while the other drives around town, you know?
Why oh why can't all wooden coasters be loaded with brakes the way Legend is?  ;)

Yeah, no kidding there DWeaver :-)

Actually I think one of the reasons that CCI's are so universally loved is the lack of brakes on them to this point in time which to me indicates tight designs and intelligent planning, something steel designers seem to have a problem with.

This is all good an true, but...

As of this season it is safe to assume there has been at least one brake caliper added. With the strech between the station and lift being converted into a transfer table (two train op...woohoo!), at least one caliper will be needed to stop a train that is to be transferred off.

Depends on how they do it. A track switch can be installed between the station and the lift, then the only place a new brake would be required would be on the storage track. And even there, a new brake might not be necessary.

You're assuming a transfer table. There isn't a whole lot of space between the station and the curve to the lift, so it seems to me that it might be simpler to use a track switch instead. Functionally like the one we were talking about in another thread on Big Bad Wolf.

0. Park train on ready brake uptrack of station
1. Move switch to "storage" position
2. Connect winch cable to train
3. Using winch, pull train backwards past switch
4. Move switch to "operation" position
5. Release winch cable, allowing train to move downtrack to (stopped) lift
6. Disconnect winch cable and rewind
7. Move other train into station
8. Restart lift. Coaster now has two trains.
9. Perform block check and start 2-train operation.

Taking off is easier...

0. Park second train on ready brake or on lift
1. Move switch to "storage" position
2. Release station brake to allow train to move through switch and roll slowly into storage shed
3. Train can be stopped manually in shed and tied down (storage track is probably level)
4. Move switch to "operation" position
5. Restart lift, resume single-train operation
