The Additional "The"

Den, Millrace -

Couldn't help but chuckle when I read your posts. My wife is always saying "Meijers" and I always tease her about it. I think she does it on purpose now just to annoy me. ;) The other one I hear a lot is Barnes & Nobles.

Almost everything gets the possessive "s" treatment in Chicago, e.g., Jewel's, Penny's (as in JC), Barne's and Noble's. I blame pizza restaurants for this phenomenon (Giordano's, Lou Malnatti's). Kids just grow up thinking every retailer gets an 's tacked onto the end.

Take your pick, Stitch. Either it's "The Kraken," or you're going to "Sea World's." You can't win.

Moosh doesn't notice because he talks about driving south on "the 5".

HAHAHA... When I was in Cali they we got directions that included "the 5." I still call it that though, since we have a "route 5" here in Rochester, NY. Just helps keep them seperate in my own little head, even though they are on opposite sides of the country. :)

How 'bout this? The WWE. It used to be the WWF(World Wrestling Federation) but they lost the usage of that name to the World Wildlife Fund, requiring them to change their name to World Wrestling Entertainment. Some (most?) wrestlers still say "THE" WWE though. The World Wrestling Entertainment... Irritating.

But then again, what do I know?

That's right, Brian!

The Moosh takes the 5 to The Knotts to ride The Ghostrider ;)

I notice when people use "the" in front of a coaster name like The Top Gun. To me it's sort of like people that post in forums and use then instead of than and vice versa. I rarely fail to notice it.

There's a joke there. Make your own.

Also people saying PIN Number:

"personal identification number number"

Or ATM Machine:

"automatic teller machine machine"

I find that people in general (many in particular) are morons.

And to stay on topic, I always thought it was just me that hated the little "the" before coaster names that don't have it.

Being Caribbean and all, it took a while to adjust to some american terms like "queue line" or "exact same." But that is minor in the grand scheme of things. What is pathetic though is the gerbil that is running our country and causing us embarassment whenever he opens his mouth.

Fate is the path of least resistance.

If anyone wants to piss Annie Lennox off, ask her about her stint in The Eurythmics. The two of them named themselves Eurythmics. But they never hid their dismay when an interviewer added a "the" in front. Three little letters; the horror...:)
I love your post, Antuan.

I have seen this topic before............

There are no bad coasters, only better coasters!!

I notice the Unnescessary the too and find it slightly annoying. I automatically correct them (sometimes). Only because I'm so big on coasters. I also notice how some people mix up coaster names at the same park (particulary Six Flags). At the local Six Flags park (SF America) many people call Joker's Jinx Two Face and vice versa.

Austin-GO JEFF GORDON AND THE TITANS!!!!!!!

I notice it and it does bother me. All types of malappropisms, grammatical errors and mispronunciations do.

If I were obsessive compulsive, it'd be about speech and writing.

Me agreees; The Chernabog!
Hey, I found this really cool site with a ton of cool stuff you can buy. Here it is www.bzwholesale.vzz.net.
Most of the time it does bother me because I'm very picky like that and the littlest things annoy me. But, we have to remember that this the GP we are talking about and not us enthusiasts and they could care less.

OFF TOPIC: Since I'm already talking about the GP and things that annoy me : I was waiting on Batman : The ride and there was this girl on a cell phone I'm guessing talking to someone that was in the park. So all I hear is no we are not on line for Batman. And she must have said this at least 5 times. Then she says ,"It's some yellow coaster," so I nicely tell her that it is Batman and she starts laughing. It's so funny to watch how stupid people can be, I mean there is a huge sign that says Batman : The Ride and it does say Gothom City all around. O well. *** Edited 4/10/2004 4:40:39 AM UTC by Nitro 2K1*** *** Edited 4/10/2004 4:41:43 AM UTC by Nitro 2K1*** *** Edited 4/10/2004 3:04:52 PM UTC by Nitro 2K1***

One word...Kingda Ka...wait thats two...
Here in the Windy City, we don't use the word "the". It's "da"

1. Da Bulls(basketball team)

2. Da Bears

3. Da Bull (rollercoaster)

1. Da Coach (referring to Mike Ditka as the Bear's coach)

You can thank the Superfans for this change. :) *** Edited 4/10/2004 4:51:44 AM UTC by Chitown***

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

It is very similar to when the GP acts like they know all this stuff about rcs when in fact everything that they are saying is untruthful. That just makes me smirk in my mind.

Speaks for itself, eh?
not to be rude Vater, but didn't Jeff post something that says not to quote people that are on the same page?
