Tennessee theme park proposal starts controversy

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

After losing a battle to demolish the racetrack at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, a group of neighbors was annoyed to hear Metro Council members saying the city should consider putting up some roller coasters, too. But some councilmen say it’s smart business for the city, which is about to study the best use of the 117-acre site, to explore the possibility of opening a theme park there.

I suggest that the ice upon which you're treading may be growing rather thin... Just a friendly observation.

Perhaps you shouldn't have been the one to start off the education debate, then.

Here's your problem. You're coming onto a message board with an established community and demanding that everyone here is taking this hobby too seriously, and that no one here cares about the environment or charity, simply because we enjoy roller coasters. I don't care what your field of study is, you're pretty dense on this particular point.

There is no absolution here. We talk about theme parks and roller coasters on this board that happens to be on this topic. You're demanding that we're small minded and don't see the big picture. Where in this thread (or on this board?) has any of us, or at least the majority, came in and said that this park should be built simply because we want it?

'bjames' was making a generalized comment, not based soley on his enthusiasm. No one before you that posted was being too serious, except Gonch's semi-calling out of bjames.

But here comes Phillip. Big and bad and bored. No, you're not bored, your'e narcissistic.

You've done nothing but attack people for having an interest in coasters. All while your interest is in being a prick to people that don't feel the way you do.

That's kind of pathetic, that your cure for bordom is to come on a message board and talk about how amazing you are that you're not a narrow minded coaster head, while accusing everyone else of being narrow minded coaster heads.

The only person here with a problem is you. The people on this message board annoy you? Then leave. Learn another language. Get the internet turned off. Just do something so that you're not the problem anymore.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Makes you wonder who the narcissistic one is with a rant like that. Good Job.:)

I am very aware of the Coasting For Kid's charity. Even though I don't know why marathon riding a rollercoaster should have anything to do with it.

If you weren't so busy proving how much better you are than everyone else for your super cool non-enthusiast M.O., you'd realize that it's not about riding, it's about creating awareness. I left Cedar Point this year with a wad of cash for GKTW from people ranging from grandparents to kids giving a single dollar.

No one here cares if you get it or not.

You should care, Jeff. I was considering on giving a donation to this charity after MaXairMike showed me the cool link. Maybe I will keep all my "wads of cash" and purchase SIRIUS 8o's for my hybrid vehicle instead.

Narcissism:

  • An obvious self-focus in interpersonal exchanges
  • Problems in sustaining satisfying relationships
  • A lack of psychological awareness (see insight in psychology and psychiatry, egosyntonic)
  • Difficulty with empathy
  • Problems distinguishing the self from others (see narcissism and boundaries)
  • Hypersensitivity to any insults or imagined insults (see criticism and narcissists, narcissistic rage and narcissistic injury)
  • Vulnerability to shame rather than guilt
    Haughty body language
  • Flattery towards people who admire and affirm them (narcissistic supply)
  • Detesting those who do not admire them (narcissistic abuse)
  • Using other people without considering the cost of doing so
  • Pretending to be more important than they really are
  • Bragging (subtly but persistently) and exaggerating their achievements
  • Claiming to be an "expert" at many things
  • Inability to view the world from the perspective of other people
  • Denial of remorse and gratitude

Yup. My post was all about me.

Oh, and even though I'm not speaking for Jeff, I think you should keep your money. You're already the better person here because you've come to berate us all for having an interest in something that isn't important in today's society where there is so much awful going on.

If your decision to donate to charity is based on how much you like someone and not the cause, that says a great deal about you.

Let's all not go the mental health route. Calling each other narcissist, etc. If one were in fact a narcissist, that is a form of illness that society is OK making fun of (or attacking one on grounds of), but we forget it is an illness. We are all on the mental health continuum somewhere. And some of us bob back and forth a bit.

(I am not making an excuse for crappy behavior, just shedding a different light on things.)

I find the ones calling out others on mental health ground - to be some of the most touched people. Spot it ya got it kinda stuff.

Smilies do sometimes make things better.

Oops, this is coasterbuzz forum! So how bout that new park!

Billy I tire of the constant accusations and misinformation. Narcissism is a word used to describe a personality trait. Let's not delve into another episode of "Everyone's got issues but mine are worse than yours".

And with that I'm done with this thread.

I think you confused "Narcissism" with "Narcotics".

Sorry :) I do the best I can. I sure don't use all the correct words, and I realize my rants may offend some. Was just trying to spread some tolerance and friendly atmosphere.

Phillip: I get you. I really do. I mean, I exist in a universe that's all about whipping out the intellectual phalli and measuring. That's our entire raison d'être in "the academy."

But, dude, you are way....and I mean way...out of your league. There are a lot of substantive discussions that happen here. You should read some of them to get a flavor. After you have, you should reflect on the fact that, at best, you are coming across as a troll.

And that's being generous.

Hehe, "the professor". I always thought of C'Buzz as being a friendly place to come and "whip it out"...intellectually-speaking, I mean. :)
