Technifex, known throughout the amusement industry for stunning special effects, responds to the task of producing the "immersive experience" of PKI's 2002 addition, TOMB RAIDER: The Ride.
I'd be "delighted" to know what the heck it's gonna be.
You'll be more deilghted when you are surprised the first time you ride it.

The day that I spend more time analyzing the rides than screaming my head off like a moron is the day that I hope someone will kick my in the love sausage and tell me not to be a moron. - Jeff
Now this proves that TR: TR is not any type of a roller coaster.

I don't know if it's just me, but Tomb Raider: The Ride has motion base (Spiderman) written all over it. This can't be a coaster, and obviously it's not just a theater, because it's called The Ride. I'm sure there will be vehicles similar to Spiderman's, but fashioned to Tomb Raider. Anyone agree with me?

I think whatever it may be, with KI's past, we can be sure it'll be unbelievable. PKI has always amazed us with their ideas and rides, we just need to be patient, and keep our ears to the rails, so to speak.

Why do I get the sneaky suspicion that TR:TR is going to be something similar to this:
http://213.196.27.24/grp_ride/lostcity.asp The park's explanation is almost identical to this ride....not that I'm complaining, mind you. I'd love to have something akin to 'Tower of Terror' relatively close by....
With Technifex on board, it's getting better by the minute...
Chris
Yeah but David Mandt said that it would be a simulated drop....I think. This proves that it can't be a coaster AT ALL. Sadly I wish it was but I can't complain, plus it looks like its gonna kick ass.

I agree with chris on this one....and it Looks pretty sweet!!

I do not recall anyone at PKI saying it would be a simulated drop.

Welcome back riders, push down and then pull up on your lap bars and exit to your right.
Have you all heard. I was talking to David, a pki (official) he said 3 things. 1. TR:TR will take up 14,000 sq ft. 2. One of the buildings will be 8 stories tall. 3. TR:TR will cost no less than $40 million. Also I don't understand why you think TR:TR will be like Spiderman. I mean Jennifer, another pki (official) said that is most deffenitly true that you WILL go face first straight down into a pit of lava. I don't see how this could be like Spiderman the ride. Could someone please explain this to me as well as what is behind the opening doors in the one painting of TR:TR when they are in the quee line and the stone doors are opening. I can't figure out whats in the backround.
This "thing" better be good. I refer to it as a "thing" because none of us have a clue. The best part is.. I live 5 minutes from PKI.. and if its good.. I'll be sure to ride it plenty of times. Like SOB.. 42 times so far this year. :-0
Later!
could someone please answere the questions I asked just above. just above therhino.
pkiboy,
That looks to me as if it were a section of the line with some sort of video screen involved with the story telling. Just a guess, though. And remember, you can't ever rely
too much on artist renderings. Their purpose is very general.

I know I sound stupid but what is a simulated drop????? #:~()>
Like in Spiderman at IOA, when you drop 50 stories, but in a simulated enviornment, with motion base, video screens, and active scenery.

does anyone know what type of ride Tomb Raider will be.
Doggea, I suggest you go to pki.com and sign up for the newsletter, just cause we wont find anything out until a newsletter is put out. so you might as well join us and sign up.
I'm pretty certain that if you can speculate what the ride will be by comparing it to existing rides, it is wrong. The PKI gang seem pretty emphatic about it being unique and introducing a whole new concept of a thrill ride. Sure, some of it may be hype but I don't think they'd be making that big a deal about it if it were just a modified (bigger/better/more elaborate) version of some existing concept.
I think one is more likely to hit upon what it might be by trying to invent your own new thrill ride concept rather than to keep thinking in terms of existing rides.
