Tea Parties, Glenn Beck protest Muslim Family Day at Six Flags Great America

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Since 2000, the theme-park chain Six Flags has held an annual "Muslim Family Day" at its Chicago park. The event, co-sponsored with the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), includes halal food and modestly dressed entertainment for local Islamic families. This year, it falls on September 12. The timing, along with the ongoing controversy over the proposed Islamic cultural center planned for lower Manhattan, has made this year's Muslim Family Day a cause célbre of the Tea Party Movement and certain Fox News pundits.

80% of your eighth post was about coasters, new guy, and, unless I am mistaken, nothing before that had anything to do with coasters.

Welcome to CoasterBuzz. Sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I look forward to discussions about Disney with you, if you decided to stick around, which I really don't think will happen after this discussion ends. I really hope you do though.

...I mean, Gonch a freekin' coaster enthusiast celebrity, for crying out loud, and he'll say time and time again that he isn't a coaster enthusiast. ;)

So, yeah... Muslims, kindly, want to celibate the end of one of their holidays at a theme park, but this year it just so happened to fall on a bad date in American history, so they decided to celebrate it the next day instead. A news celebrity, who is well known for either being a crazy-head, or a sincere patriot, disapproves, because he believes that it is in bad taste, because the guys who attacked America on that bad date were Muslims too.

But, those Muslim-Americians who want to take their family to a theme park, as well as 99.9999999% of anyone else in the U.S., didn't have anything to do with the terrorist attacks on 9/11, so what business is it of anyone's? I believe that Muslim-Americans were just as heart-broken and confused as any other American during that rough time in our history. To make things worse, people looked at them very differently after the attacks, which was very, very wrong.

The same thing has been happening in the Catholic Religion recently. People think that every Catholic Priest is a pedophile, which is very, very wrong. (I am not a Catholic, by the way.)

People need to wake up, and realize that "Never Forget" shouldn't mean to have vengeance in your heart for the rest of your lives toward anyone who is the same race and religion as the people who attacked the U.S. on 9/11. This is a time in our history where loving one another is going to either save us as a species, or destroy us as a species, and so far it appears that we are leaning toward being destroyed.

There you go. I, a coaster enthusiast, added to the discussion. :)

"No I'm not!"

and

"No. I'm not."

(It's much more clever in my mind where I can hear how the inflection and emphasis placed on each sentence gives the exact same words diffferent tone and answers both halves of your comment. Lots of things are better in my mind. Mmmmmm.)

Interestingly, this story popped up as the main news story on my little AT&T Yahoo homepage portal thingy just moments ago.

Apparently it's like Fight Club with little like-minded pocket groups sprouting up all over...except the first rule of Tea Party isn't that you can't talk about it.

...and face it, Fight Club was awesomeness wrapped in cool and painted a lovely shade of kick-ass.

So it can't be all bad. :)

I ain't letting that one pass by. They won't be needing the adult wing at Alton Towers, will they?

You know Tekwardo, I didn't know there were time limits on being able to post opinions here. You'll have to excuse my absence from the site for six days. I was off having a life, that included actually visiting a park. I apologize for not asking your permission first. You certainly took my lead by posting several dozen times since I resurrected this thread-- all the way from the bottom of page 1.

I am so looking forward to meeting you at PPP.

That term is VERY offensive in a way to describe a group that I belong to. It's no better than using the n-word with another group of people.

Seriously? C'mon... seriously?

Hi

RGB, the thread had ran its course, which was obvious in the fact that it went 6 days without anyone posting. You're not offended by Moosh's comment about the thread dying? As far as your infering that I don't have a life, in the last six days, I've worked, shopped, visited a theme park, done volunteer work, spent time with friends, mowed my yard, put together a dresser drawer for my clothes, but I guess that you're right. Your six days off means your life has far more meaning. But after 6 days off, you came back here to restart a thread that had died off just to continue arguing your opinion. Oh, and I wouldn't look forward to meeting at PPP.

And you won't answer this question, since it puts you in a bind either way.

Now on to this:

Words mean things, and if you leave out words then they mean DIFFERENT things!

You're taking things out of the entire context. If you didn't get the context that was behind the post, I can't help you there. I explained it earlier (the meaning behind my example), and yet you keep demanding that originally I said somethign different. Perhaps to you, I did say something different, but I've since given context and an explination. You can either pretend that I haven't and continue to harp on the first post that I've since clarified, or move on. It's obvious that since you keep going back to what I said before I clarified it that you're just trying to argue.

I'm not taking this personally--sorry if you think that.

As far as me not understanding Beck, I've listened to him for prob. 8 years now. I think I understand him pretty well!

I'm merely trying to get you to admit...

Yeah, actually, I think you are taking it personally. You'er trying to get me to admit? That isn't going to happen, and it's sad that it's so important to you that I admit something on an internet message board. You're a Beck fan and you don't like that people are speaking out against something he said. If not personal, you're definitely biased.

I'm merely trying to get you to admit that "I find that in poor taste" does not mean "I want that banned." It clearly doesn't!

If Glenn Beck says he finds something in 'Poor Taste', then he finds it offensive. If someone finds something offensive then they find it repugnant or are opposed to it. And being opposed means you act against or provide resistance to something, which is what Beck did on his radio show. He is against it. Those are publicly available definitions from dictionary.com. You can continue to ignore actual facts and talk about fat girls all you want though.

For inducing thread closure, we need to go beck to basics: more puns. Enough with the broad glenneralizations. Been there, done that, got the tea-shirt.

It was also completely the imagination of the lead character, so I guess you're right. :)

I've often wondered why people bring up this kind of thing to imply validation of their opinion.

Because other people get to decide that, and I'm still amused by it.

Making the jump from someone finding something in poor taste or offensive to being opposed or providing resistance is quite a jump. You're assuming a lot there. A person can find something offensive but not be opposed to it or provide resistance. People do that all the time.

Um, if I find something offensive, then I'm obviously opposed to it happening. If it didn't happen/weren't said/didn't go on, then I wouldn't be offended by it...

So is it this:

Um, if I find something offensive, then I'm obviously opposed to it happening. If it didn't happen/weren't said/didn't go on, then I wouldn't be offended by it...

Or this?

I never said he shouldn't have his opinion. He's welcome to it

In the 1st quote you say you want things banned that you find offensive, while in the 2nd you say you don't want to ban Beck's speech even though you find it offensive.

Which is it? You want to take both sides of this point because once you settle on one you're done.

You're a Beck fan

Wrong again. You continue to rely on assumptions as a basis for your argument.

Most of the rest of your post is gibberish to me.

I'm merely trying to get you to admit that "I find that in poor taste" does not mean "I want that banned." It clearly doesn't!"

You know, Tek, the fact is those 2 statements are not equivalent. It is a FACT. By me wanting you to admit to this CLEAR fact was my attempt to move the debate along. You don't want to move it along, and that's fine with me.

I appreciate that you remained civil through this entire debate--I hope you didn't take this personally. Enjoy your coasters!

Jeff, just pointing out that I hadn't even logged onto the site for several days. No big deal. Not validating my opinion at all. I just don't see why there should be some time limit in which someone has to respond to a post, especially when there are pages of comments added since the last log in. It's not like this was a thread from months or years back that are resurrected. Besides, the main complainant has seen fit to continue posting, indicating that the thread wasn't as dead as he thought.

Dear Tek, no I wasn't offended by Moosh's comment. "Offended" and related words seem to be a big part of your vocabulary. You seemed more "offended" that I dared post another comment contrary to your rigid beliefs than anything. Since you mentioned you'd be at PPP, does your latest sweet nothing directed toward me indicate you changed your mind and won't be going, or that you'll just make every attempt to avoid me? If you're going to be there, perhaps you should post a list of anyone you plan to associate with there so I don't sully you with any second hand contact.
